The Czech Republic anchors around Charles University in Prague, founded in 1348, the oldest university in Central Europe and consistently ranked among the top medical schools in the region. Charles University runs three faculties of medicine in Prague (First, Second, and Third), and additional faculties in Pilsen and Hradec Králové. Other strong options include Masaryk University in Brno, the country's second-largest university with a respected medical faculty.

Hungary has the longest-running English-medium medical education tradition in continental Europe, with Semmelweis University in Budapest beginning English instruction in 1983 to attract international students. Beyond Semmelweis, the University of Debrecen, the University of Pécs, and the University of Szeged round out the four major medical universities, each with substantial Indian student communities. The University of Debrecen alone has historically had more Indian students than any other single European medical university, which has shaped the entire support infrastructure in the city, from grocery stores to housing arrangements to peer mentoring. Hungary is the most Indian-student-friendly of the four destinations in terms of community size and operational maturity, which is a meaningful comfort factor for families sending a young person abroad for the first time.

Slovakia hosts Comenius University in Bratislava, founded in 1919 and the country's flagship institution, with an English-medium MD programme that has run for several decades. The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin, also a Comenius faculty, is well regarded for its clinical training. Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, in eastern Slovakia, completes the picture with a smaller but rigorous programme. Slovakia's overall character is quieter than Hungary or the Czech Republic, with smaller Indian communities but solid, well-organised English-medium programmes.

Latvia is the smallest of the four by Indian student presence, but it is growing, and Rīga Stradiņš University, named after the Latvian surgeon Pauls Stradiņš, runs a serious English-medium MD programme with strong clinical exposure in Riga's hospital network. The University of Latvia in Riga is the country's older institution and also offers an English-medium programme. Latvia's specific draw is the cost-quality ratio: tuition is among the most reasonable in the EU, the academic standards are high, and the student experience in Riga is well-organised. The trade-off is climate — Latvia is the coldest of the four, with December and January temperatures that frequently sit between minus five and minus fifteen degrees Celsius, and limited daylight in deep winter. Families from southern India should weigh that honestly before choosing Latvia.
