How to Apply
Admission to the 6-year English MD at Poznań University of Medical Sciences is by an entrance examination in the natural sciences and an interview, assessed with the secondary-school record. Indian students apply online to the Centre for Medical Education in English and should hold a valid NEET qualification for future licensing in India. Applications are made directly to the university.
Online applications for the September 2026 intake open on the PUMS Centre for Medical Education in English (CMEE) portal.
Indian applicants should hold a valid NEET-UG qualification, required by India's NMC for licensing after a foreign medical degree.
Applicants sit the PUMS entrance examination in the natural sciences (biology and chemistry) and attend an interview; MCAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, BMAT or DAT scores are optional and add bonus points.
Final date to submit the completed application for the September 2026 intake.
Successful applicants confirm their place and pay the fees, then apply for the Polish (EU) student visa and residence documents and prepare to travel to Poznań.
The academic year begins in Poznań.
Applicants must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent secondary education) with satisfactory grades in Biology and Chemistry and in Mathematics or Physics. For Indian students, the NMC requires a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40% for reserved categories) plus English, and a valid NEET qualification, for licensing in India.

Candidates should be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year, in line with NMC rules for studying medicine abroad.
Selection is based on the entrance examination and interview together with the academic record and English proficiency. Indian students also need a valid NEET result for future Indian licensing. Applications are made to the PUMS Centre for Medical Education in English.

Program Structure
Poznań University of Medical Sciences teaches a six-year, 360-ECTS MD that moves from basic sciences to full clinical rotations, with USMLE-oriented milestones built in, taught in English and leading to the Polish lekarz (physician) degree, equivalent to an MBBS.

The senior years are spent in clinical rotations across the specialties in the university hospitals, with NBME subject exams, subspecialty and elective rotations (including electives for US and Canada aspirants) and the diploma examination:
Clinical training takes place in Poznań University of Medical Sciences' four university clinical hospitals — the University Clinical Hospital, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialist Clinical Hospital, the Wiktor Dega Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital and the Karol Jonscher Clinical Hospital — with around 2,200 beds. Legacy
Poznań's medical school has produced surgeons and scientists of international standing, from the founders of Polish academic medicine to pioneers of transplant surgery.
Maria Siemionow earned both her MD and PhD in Poznań and became one of the world's leading reconstructive surgeons. In 2008, at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States, she led the team that performed the first near-total face transplant in the country, a landmark in reconstructive and transplant surgery, and her research on composite tissue transplantation has influenced the field worldwide.
Andrzej Grzybowski is an internationally recognised ophthalmologist associated with Poznań, known for his research on the history and science of ophthalmology and on artificial intelligence in eye care. As an author and journal editor, he has helped raise the global profile of Polish ophthalmology.
Heliodor Święcicki was a gynaecologist and the first Rector of the University of Poznań, founded in 1919, which included the medical faculty from which Poznań University of Medical Sciences descends. He is remembered as a founder of academic medicine in Poznań, and a university hospital carried his name.
Antoni Jurasz was a Poznań surgeon who, during the Second World War, founded the Polish School of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1941, allowing Polish medical students to continue their training in exile. His work built an enduring link between Polish and British medicine.
Radosław Bukowski is a physician and academic in maternal-fetal medicine, trained in Poznań, whose research and inventions have advanced the understanding of pregnancy and stillbirth. His career reflects the strong research culture of the Poznań medical school.

Poznań University of Medical Sciences runs its own student dormitories (including the Aspirynka, Medyk, Karolek and Eskulap houses), and new students are guaranteed a shared two-person room, giving international students secure, affordable housing near the campus.
From July 2026, dormitory rates run from about 820–840 PLN per person per month for a shared double (Aspirynka/Medyk) to 1,350–1,500 PLN for a single room (Karolek/Eskulap), among the most economical housing in the city.
Dormitory rooms are furnished, with shared kitchens and common areas, internet and laundry, and are located close to the university buildings and clinical hospitals.
First-year international students are guaranteed a dormitory place on arrival, which removes the stress of finding private housing in a new country and keeps them close to fellow students.
Dormitory places are arranged through the university's student housing service after admission; students should confirm their room as soon as they accept their offer.
Students who prefer more comfort or independence can choose privately operated student residences, or rent or share a private flat. Both options cost noticeably more than the university halls, and students organise this independently as the university does not arrange private housing.
Poznań has an extensive tram and bus network with discounted student passes (a monthly pass is around US$25), and the compact city makes it easy to live near the campus and hospitals.
Poznań has cold, snowy winters, so students should budget for warm clothing and heating, a real adjustment for students from most parts of India.

Practising in India
To practise medicine in India after graduating from Poznań University of Medical Sciences, Indian students follow the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Because PUMS is a WDOMS-listed, English-taught six-year programme, it meets the NMC's core criteria, and students should qualify NEET-UG before joining.
Step 1
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination that licenses foreign medical graduates to practise in India. At present this is the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which the NMC plans to replace with the National Exit Test (NExT).
Step 2
After qualifying, students complete the required one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in India, which builds hands-on experience in Indian clinical settings under the NMC's framework.
Step 3
The final step is registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant State Medical Council. Once registered, the graduate holds a full licence to practise medicine in India.
