University of Nicosia Application 2027: Steps and Interview

A University of Nicosia application for medicine is an online application to the university's six year Doctor of Medicine (MD), followed by an online video interview and, if you're selected, an offer letter. The whole process runs through one applicant account, and an admissions advisor guides you through the documents and payments once you've applied.

Why does that matter to an Indian student? Because it means there's no separate entrance exam to travel for. Your school record, your English and your interview decide it. This guide walks through every step of the University of Nicosia application for the 2027 intake, using the medical school's own pages, plus the Indian rules you need to line up alongside it.

Key Takeaways

  • Six official steps: register online, start the application, submit it, send documents and payments with an advisor, take an online video interview, then receive an offer letter.
  • Programme: the Undergraduate Entry MD is a six year, 360 ECTS degree taught in English and designed for school leavers.
  • Entry: the school lists A Levels (ABB with Biology), the IB (32 points) and the Greek or Cypriot certificate, and says it may consider other education systems, so Indian Class 12 students ask admissions first.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall (6.5 in writing) or TOEFL iBT 79, because India is not on the exemption list.
  • Costs: a 60 euro application fee, a 1,500 euro administrative fee and a 3,500 euro seat deposit, both deducted from tuition, and tuition of 24,000 euros a year.

What is the University of Nicosia medical school application deadline?

The University of Nicosia medical school doesn't print one fixed closing date on its admissions pages; the Apply Now page simply opens your account and asks for a start date. Our application deadlines page lists 30 June 2027 for the next MD intake. Treat that as the last safe date, not the target.

So when should you start your University of Nicosia application? Earlier than you think. Two things reward an early start. First, the interview only comes after your documents and payments are in. Second, a conditional offer leaves time to meet its conditions before term, and the admissions page says a conditional offer "may not be converted to an unconditional offer solely based on meeting minimum grade requirements". In plain words: the school looks at the whole person, so give yourself room.

Why do Indian students choose the University of Nicosia?

The University of Nicosia Medical School is the largest medical school in Cyprus and opened the country's first medical school in 2011, according to its 6 year MD page. It teaches the whole MD in English, to students from over 90 countries.

Here's what stands out for a family in India:

  • A quality-checked degree. The MD is accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA), which holds Recognition Status from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The school is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Built for Europe. The programme is designed to meet the EU directive on the recognition of professional qualifications (2005/36/EC).
  • A clear structure. 360 ECTS over 12 semesters: three years of basic and clinical sciences, a transitional fourth year with a research project and first placements, then two almost fully clinical years.
  • Global outcomes. The school says its graduates have been offered positions at over 350 medical centres for residency, fellowships, internships and research.

You'll find the campus and course profile on our University of Nicosia Medical School page, and the country picture in our guide to MBBS in Cyprus for Indian students.

Who can make a University of Nicosia application?

Any school leaver with strong science grades can make a University of Nicosia application for the six year MD. The admissions page lists these school qualifications, each with Biology plus one of Chemistry, Physics or Maths:

Qualification Grade the school lists
Greek or Cypriot school leaving certificate 90% overall (18/20), with similar grades in the science subjects
GCE A Levels ABB, including Biology and one of Chemistry, Physics or Maths, plus one more subject
International Baccalaureate 32 points overall, 16 at Higher Level
Other education systems "May also consider applicants from other education systems. Please contact us."

Indian Class 12 (CBSE, ISC or a state board) sits in that last row. That's not a barrier for your University of Nicosia application; it simply means you email admissions with your marksheets before you apply and ask how they read your board. Keep PCB strong, because Biology is required in every route.

Two more things count. The school expects volunteer experience that shows you understand the biological, psychological and social sides of medicine. And it reviews all grades holistically, so a good interview and a thoughtful record matter as much as one percentage.

Do you need IELTS for the University of Nicosia?

Yes, most Indian applicants need an English test for a University of Nicosia application. The admissions page asks for IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing and at least 6.0 in the other parts, or TOEFL iBT 79 (or 4 on the new TOEFL scale from 22 January 2026). The exemption covers native speakers from the UK, Ireland, the USA, Australia and New Zealand only.

Book the test early, so the score is in your file when your advisor collects your documents. Some other partner universities check English in their own tests instead; our guide to MBBS in Europe without IELTS shows which ones, if you'd like a comparison.

How do you apply to the University of Nicosia, step by step?

You apply to the University of Nicosia in a fixed order, and the Apply Now page spells it out. Add the India-side checks around it and the full list looks like this:

  1. Check your NEET position first. NEETsheet explains the NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, and its NEET 2027 exam date post helps you plan both timelines together.
  2. Email admissions with your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets to confirm how your board is assessed.
  3. Register online on the Apply Now page and create your applicant account.
  4. Log in, start an application to the six year MD and fill in every section.
  5. Submit the application and pay the 60 euro application fee.
  6. Work with your admissions advisor to upload the required documents, including your IELTS or TOEFL score.
  7. Take the online interview by video conference if you qualify.
  8. Receive your admission offer letter and read any conditions carefully.
  9. Pay the 3,500 euro seat reservation deposit to hold your place, then start the Cyprus entry permit.

What is the University of Nicosia interview like?

The University of Nicosia interview is an online video interview that every MD applicant who qualifies is invited to. It replaces a written entrance exam, and the 6 year MD page says it assesses your skills and attributes rather than recall of facts.

The school doesn't publish its question list, so prepare for the qualities it names instead:

  • Why medicine? Be ready to explain your motivation with real examples, not phrases.
  • Your volunteer experience. The school asks for it explicitly, so talk about what you did, what you saw and what it taught you about patients.
  • The whole person. Medicine has biological, psychological and social sides. Show that you've thought about all three.
  • Clear English. You'll study every subject in English, so speak calmly and in full sentences.

The interview is the heart of a University of Nicosia application, so test your camera, microphone and internet the day before. A quiet room and a steady connection make you look and sound your best.

How much does a University of Nicosia application cost?

A University of Nicosia application costs 60 euros up front, a non-refundable one-off fee. Larger payments come once you hold an offer. Here's every charge on the school's financial information page, last updated on 15 April 2026, as it applies to an international student:

Payment Amount Notes
Application fee 60 euros One-off, non-refundable
Administrative fee 1,500 euros Deducted from first semester tuition
Seat reservation deposit 3,500 euros Deducted from first semester tuition; fully refundable if you decide not to join
Entry visa application and alien's registration 150 euros One-off, non-refundable
International student guarantee 400 euros One-off, refundable
Health insurance 180 euros a year Compulsory for non-EU students
Malpractice insurance 300 euros a year in years 1 to 4; 600 to 1,250 euros in years 5 to 6 Depends on the clinical site
Personal accident insurance 50 euros a year Years 1 to 6
Visa renewal 55 euros Each year after the first
Tuition 24,000 euros a year The page says fees may be subject to change

Beyond the University of Nicosia application itself, the page adds that living in Nicosia costs a minimum of 12,000 euros a year. There's also a helpful extra: need-based scholarships of up to 20% of tuition. You apply after you've been admitted and interviewed, and the deadline appears in your offer letter. Our guides to the scholarship for MBBS abroad and the education loan for MBBS abroad show how families usually fund the rest.

What happens after your University of Nicosia offer?

After a University of Nicosia offer, you secure the seat, then apply to enter Cyprus. Cyprus's Department of Higher Education says on its student admission page that students from third countries, India included, must obtain an entry permit from the Civil Registry and Migration Department.

Three points to plan for:

  • Entry permit before travel. The university's student services team facilitates the visa for non-EU students, and the 150 euro entry visa and registration fee is on the fee list above.
  • Residence permit after arrival. The same government page says you must apply to the Civil Registry and Migration Department within 10 days of arriving in Cyprus.
  • Papers ready in India. Attested copies of your certificates and proof that your family can fund your stay make every step faster. Our guides to the apostille for MBBS in Europe, proof of funds and the student visa for MBBS in Europe go through each document.

Start this step as soon as your University of Nicosia application turns into an offer. The government page also notes that rules can change and advises checking with the Cypriot mission in your home country, so confirm the current list before you book flights.

Does a University of Nicosia MD fit India's FMGL rules?

India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 (FMGL) are the National Medical Commission rules for Indians who study medicine abroad. They ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, teaching in English, and a licence to practise in the country that awards the degree.

The University of Nicosia MD runs six years in English. One FMGL clause matters for planning: the whole course, training and internship must happen in the country that awards the degree. The school offers optional final-year placements in the UK, USA, Switzerland and Germany, so if you plan to practise in India, choose clinical training in Cyprus. Before paying the deposit, ask admissions in writing how the clinical years map onto the FMGL internship condition for your intake, and keep the reply with your offer letter.

NEET matters too. Read our guide on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad, and our guides on checking NMC and WDOMS recognition and the FMG internship and registration for what happens when you come home.
