Understanding AIQ vs State Quota
India’s MBBS seat allocation is split into two quotas that are managed entirely separately, with different counselling processes, timelines, and eligibility rules. Understanding which quota you fall under is essential before using any college predictor.
AIQ card: All India Quota (AIQ) 15%
- 15% of seats in all government medical colleges across India
- 100% of seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, and AFMC
- Managed centrally by MCC (mcc.nic.in)
- Open to students from any state (no domicile requirement)
- Highly competitive, national-level cutoffs apply
- Registration done online through the MCC counselling portal
State Quota card: State Quota 85%
- 85% of seats in government medical colleges within a state
- Also covers all private medical college seats in that state
- Managed separately by each state counselling authority
- Usually requires domicile or residence proof for eligibility
- Cutoffs are generally (but not always) lower than AIQ
- Separate registration required on state portals
