Masaryk University Admission 2027: Exam, Steps and Fees

Masaryk University admission for General Medicine is a written entrance exam in biology, chemistry and physics, taken after you file an e-application through one of the faculty's official representatives. For the 2027/2028 intake, the e-application is open from 2 January to 31 July 2027, and General Medicine needs 60% to pass.

That's the short answer. The longer one matters, because non-EU students like you have an earlier window than the closing date suggests. This guide walks through Masaryk University admission step by step, using the Faculty of Medicine's own admission pages for 2027/2028, plus the Indian rules you should line up alongside it.

Key Takeaways

  • The programme: General Medicine in English is a six year Master's degree that ends with the MUDr. (Doctor of General Medicine) title, taught at Masaryk University's Faculty of Medicine in Brno.
  • The window: e-applications run from 2 January to 31 July 2027, but non-EU nationals sit the exam from January to April 2027, and only exceptionally in May.
  • The exam: three written tests in chemistry, biology and physics, each with 40 multiple choice questions and 50 minutes. General Medicine needs 60%.
  • The cost: tuition is 380,000 Czech crowns (CZK) a year, payable in two instalments, plus a 990 CZK fee to recognise your school certificate.
  • The route: you apply through an official in-country representative, then sort your school recognition, tuition, Czech insurance and long-term visa before enrolment in September 2027.

When is the Masaryk University application deadline for 2027?

The Masaryk University application deadline for the 2027/2028 intake is 31 July 2027, and the e-application opens on 2 January 2027, according to the faculty's admission information page. For an Indian student, though, the date that counts is earlier: non-EU nationals take the exam between January and April.

Why the gap? The faculty says non-EU applicants can't sit the exam after that so they have time to finish the visa process before enrolment. Exams in June and July are for EU citizens only. E-applications for exams abroad are generally due about two weeks before the exam date itself.

So your real Masaryk University admission timeline looks like this: shortlist in November and December 2026, apply as soon as the window opens, and take the exam in the first months of 2027.

Masaryk University admission timeline for 2027/2028 For a non-EU applicant: the e-application opens on 2 January 2027. Non-EU nationals take the entrance exam from January to April 2027, exceptionally in May. Results and the admission decision appear in the e-application. Then come the tuition invoice, recognition of secondary education and a long-term student visa, which can take up to 60 days. Accommodation booking for new international students usually opens in July. The e-application closes on 31 July 2027. Enrolment is in September 2027, in the week before the autumn semester. Why do Indian students choose Masaryk University for medicine?

Masaryk University is a large public university in Brno. Its about page dates it to 1919 and counts 30,500 students across 10 faculties, and its Bohunice campus has what the university calls state-of-the-art laboratories for future doctors and biologists.

Here's what stands out for a family in India:

  • A clear six year degree in English. The General Medicine programme page lists a full-time, six year Master's programme taught in English, ending with the MUDr. title.
  • Hands-on training early. The faculty's General Medicine admissions page describes training at SIMU, its simulation centre, and in teaching hospitals such as University Hospital Brno, St. Anne's University Hospital Brno and the Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, with extensive placements in the final year.
  • A reward for top grades. The Dean's Merit Scholarship cuts tuition by 50% for the next semester for students in the third or a higher semester with a 1.0 grade average.
  • Value among Czech faculties. At 380,000 CZK a year, Masaryk is the lowest of the crown-billing faculties in our Czech Republic MBBS fees comparison.

For the campus profile, see our Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine page, and for the country picture, our guide to MBBS in Czech Republic for Indian students.

What is the Masaryk University entrance exam like?

The Masaryk University entrance exam is a written test in three parts: chemistry, biology and physics. Each part has 40 multiple choice questions with five options and one correct answer, and each lasts 50 minutes. You may bring a simple calculator, nothing else. General Medicine needs 60% to pass.

Here's the exam at a glance, from the admission information page:

Part Questions Time What you need
Chemistry 40, five options, one correct 50 minutes Simple calculator; no periodic table
Biology 40, five options, one correct 50 minutes No reference material
Physics 40, five options, one correct 50 minutes Simple calculator
Pass mark 60% for General Medicine Higher scores get priority One attempt per admission year

Two rules shape your Masaryk University admission plan. You can sit the exam only once per admission year, so pick a date when you're ready. And passing isn't the same as a seat: the Dean decides how many students are accepted, higher scorers get priority, and lower scorers are offered places if others decline. In some countries, the faculty adds an oral interview in English.

Good news if you're already preparing for NEET: the subjects overlap almost completely. The faculty's preparation page publishes free syllabi and sample tests for all three subjects, plus optional e-learning courses at 100 euros per subject. NEETsheet's NEET 2027 biology preparation strategy is a useful base for the biology paper. Our guide to the MBBS entrance exam in Europe compares this test with other partner universities.

Can you get into Masaryk University without the entrance exam?

Some applicants can skip the written test, but most Indian Class 12 students can't. The faculty lists exemptions for General Medicine based on specific foreign results, and Indian board marks aren't among them.

The exemptions on the admission information page are:

  • A-levels from 2025/2026 or later, with at least A in Chemistry, A in Biology and B in Physics.
  • International Baccalaureate from 2025/2026 or later, with at least 35 points overall and 19 points from HL Biology, HL Chemistry and one of HL or SL Physics.
  • MCAT or DAT results for applicants from the USA and Canada, and specific national results for France, Germany and Switzerland.

So if you studied CBSE, ISC or a state board, plan on the written exam as part of your Masaryk University admission. If you hold A-levels or the IB, check the grades above first. It could save you a test date.

How do you apply to Masaryk University, step by step?

You apply to Masaryk University through an official representative for your country, using the faculty's e-application. The admission information page says applicants "must apply via our official in-country representatives listed on our website". Add the India-side checks and the full Masaryk University admission sequence looks like this:

  1. Check your NEET position first. NEETsheet explains the NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, which you need if you plan to practise in India.
  2. Find the official representative for India on the faculty's entrance examination dates page and agree on an exam date between January and April 2027.
  3. File the e-application once the window opens on 2 January 2027, about two weeks before your exam date at the latest.
  4. Upload your previous school year's transcript or certificate, or your final Class 12 diploma if you already have it.
  5. Prepare with the free syllabi and sample tests, then sit the three-part written exam.
  6. Check the e-application for your result and the admission decision.
  7. Pay tuition by the deadline on your invoice, in one payment or two semester instalments.
  8. Complete the recognition of your secondary education and pay the 990 CZK fee before enrolment.
  9. Apply for a long-term student visa at a Czech embassy or consulate, with Czech health insurance, then book housing and enrol in September 2027.

How much does Masaryk University admission cost?

Masaryk University admission itself is low-cost: the admission information page lists no application fee for General Medicine, only a 990 CZK fee to recognise your school certificate. The big number is tuition, 380,000 CZK per academic year, which you can split into two instalments, one per semester.

Payment Amount When and how
Recognition of secondary education 990 CZK Paid online before enrolment
Tuition, General Medicine 380,000 CZK per academic year Deadline on the invoice sent with your admission documents; two instalments allowed
Cancellation fee 25,000 CZK Kept if you pay tuition and then don't enrol
E-learning preparatory course (optional) 100 euros per subject Biology, chemistry and physics sold separately

Over six years, tuition adds up to 2,280,000 CZK at the current rate. The after-acceptance page points non-EU students to the Convera platform for paying from a foreign-currency account, because exchange rates and bank fees can change the final amount. Our guide to the education loan for MBBS abroad shows how families usually plan the transfer from India.

What happens after your Masaryk University offer?

After a Masaryk University offer, you complete four tasks before enrolment: pay tuition, get your school certificate recognised, take out Czech health insurance and apply for a long-term student visa. The faculty's after-acceptance page sets out each one.

  • Recognition of secondary education. It's compulsory if you finished school outside the Czech Republic. The International Studies Office sends detailed instructions after the exam. Our apostille for MBBS in Europe guide helps you get your Indian documents ready.
  • Long-term visa. Non-EU students apply at a Czech embassy or consulate abroad, since applications can't be filed in the Czech Republic. Processing can take up to 60 days. Successful applicants are placed in the Student Mode process automatically, which helps but doesn't guarantee approval.
  • Health insurance. Non-EU students must show Czech medical insurance covering the whole stay before the visa goes into the passport.
  • Housing. Reservations for new international students usually open in July, for university dormitories or private flats in Brno.

Our guide to the student visa for MBBS in Europe covers the paperwork in detail. Start early: 60 days is a long time when term starts in September.

Do you need to learn Czech at Masaryk University?

You study medicine in English at Masaryk University, and you also learn Czech as part of the course. The admission information page says students take Czech language training and pass exams at the end of years one, two, three and four, so they can talk with patients in Czech once clinical training in hospitals begins.

That's a real advantage. By the clinical years, you can take a history from a patient yourself, instead of waiting for a translator. No Czech is needed to apply or to sit the exam. If you're new to Central European weather, our post on winter in Europe for Indian MBBS students covers the practical side of your first year in Brno.

Does a Masaryk University degree fit India's FMGL rules?

India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 (FMGL) are the National Medical Commission rules for Indians who study medicine abroad. They ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, teaching in English, and a licence to practise in the country that awards the degree.

Masaryk's General Medicine runs six years in English, which covers the length and language conditions. The faculty doesn't say how its final-year placements map onto the FMGL internship condition, so ask in writing during your Masaryk University admission and keep the reply with your offer letter. Our guides on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad, on checking NMC and WDOMS recognition and on the FMG internship and registration explain what happens when you come home.
