How to Apply
Admission to the 6-year English MD at the Medical University of Gdańsk is by the university’s own entrance examination, an online written test in Biology and Chemistry followed by a short interview. Indian students apply online to the GUMed English Division and should hold a valid NEET qualification for future licensing in India. Applications are made directly to the university or through its official partner agencies.
Online applications for the 2026 October intake open on the GUMed Admissions portal.
Indian applicants should hold a valid NEET-UG qualification, required by India’s NMC for licensing after a foreign medical degree.
Applicants sit the GUMed entrance exam: an online written test in Biology and Chemistry (about 90 minutes) followed by a short online interview; several exam sessions run through the summer.
Successful applicants receive an offer and confirm their place per the admissions instructions, paying the required fees to reserve their seat.
Students apply for the Polish (EU) student visa and residence documents, arrange insurance, and prepare to travel to Gdańsk.
Orientation Week and the academic year begin in Gdańsk; the first tuition installment is due 15 October.
Applicants must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent secondary education) with Biology, Chemistry and Physics and strong science grades. For Indian students, the NMC requires a minimum aggregate of 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (40% for reserved categories) plus English, and a valid NEET qualification, for licensing in India.

Candidates should be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year, in line with NMC rules for studying medicine abroad.
Selection is based on the GUMed entrance examination (written test plus interview), together with the academic record. Indian students also need a valid NEET result for future Indian licensing. Applications are made to the GUMed English Division or an official partner agency.

An online written test in Biology and Chemistry (about 90 minutes) followed by a short online interview; a published syllabus and sample questions are available.
English Proficiency
The programme is taught entirely in English; applicants who did not study in English provide evidence of English proficiency (for example IELTS/TOEFL) as required by the university.
Admission to the 6-year MD is decided by the GUMed entrance exam in Biology and Chemistry plus an interview.

The Medical University of Gdańsk teaches a six-year, 360-ECTS MD structured to European and US standards, moving from basic sciences to full clinical training in the university’s teaching hospitals, taught in English and leading to the Polish lekarz (physician) degree, equivalent to an MBBS.

Clinical training takes place in the University Clinical Centre (UCK) in Gdańsk, the largest hospital in northern Poland, including the modern Centre of Invasive Medicine and Centre of Non-Invasive Medicine, and the University Centre for Maritime and Tropical Medicine. An indicative pattern:

Legacy
Founded in 1945, the Medical University of Gdańsk has built a strong reputation in cardiology, oncology, hypertension research and maritime medicine, led by internationally recognised professors.
Krzysztof Narkiewicz is an internationally recognised hypertension researcher at the Medical University of Gdańsk, where he heads the Department of Hypertension and Diabetology. A past president of major European hypertension bodies, his research on blood-pressure regulation and cardiovascular risk is cited worldwide and shapes international guidelines on managing high blood pressure.
Jacek Jassem is a leading oncologist at the Medical University of Gdańsk and a globally known figure in breast- and lung-cancer research and tobacco control. He has led major international clinical trials and cancer organisations, and the university is ranked first in Poland for oncology in international subject rankings.
Grzegorz Raczak is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the Medical University of Gdańsk, where he has led the Department of Cardiology and Electrotherapy. His work on cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, and the university’s strength in invasive cardiology, reflect Gdańsk’s status as a major cardiac centre in northern Poland.

Professor Michał Markuszewski, a specialist in biopharmacy and pharmaceutical analysis, is the Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk (term 2024–2028). Housing
The Medical University of Gdańsk offers student dormitories close to the campus, and many international students also rent private flats across Gdańsk and the wider Tricity area.
The Medical University of Gdańsk runs its own student dormitories (Domy Studenckie) near the campus and University Clinical Centre, giving international students secure, affordable housing within reach of lectures and the teaching hospitals.
Dormitory rooms are furnished, usually single or twin rooms in shared units with kitchens and common areas, internet and laundry, and are among the most economical housing in the city, from roughly PLN 500–700 per month.
University dormitory places are much cheaper than private rent, while a private or shared room in the city typically costs around PLN 1,500–2,500 per month (roughly ₹34,000–₹56,000).
First-year international students are encouraged to apply for a dormitory place on arrival, which keeps them close to fellow students and eases the move to a new country and climate.
Dormitory places are requested through the university’s student housing service after admission; because demand is high, students should apply for a room as soon as they accept their offer.
Students who prefer more comfort or independence can choose privately operated student residences, or rent or share a private flat. Both options cost noticeably more than the university halls, and students organise this independently as the university does not arrange private housing.
Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia form the Tricity, linked by an efficient commuter rail (SKM) and tram and bus networks with discounted student passes, so students can live across the area and reach the campus easily.
Gdańsk has cold Baltic winters, so students should budget for warm clothing and heating, a real adjustment for students from most parts of India.

Indian and vegetarian food is easily available in restaurants, grocery stores and student kitchens across Gdańsk and the Tricity, a large metropolitan area with a strong food scene.
The university area and the wider Tricity have canteens, cafés and student-friendly restaurants, and Poland’s cheap ‘milk bar’ (bar mleczny) canteens serve traditional meals, with vegetarian and vegan options widely available.

Practising in India
To practise medicine in India after graduating from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Indian students follow the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Because GUMed is a WDOMS-listed, English-taught six-year programme, it meets the NMC’s core criteria, and students should qualify NEET-UG before joining.
Step 1
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination that licenses foreign medical graduates to practise in India. At present this is the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which the NMC plans to replace with the National Exit Test (NExT).
Step 2
After qualifying, students complete the required one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in India, which builds hands-on experience in Indian clinical settings under the NMC’s framework.
Step 3
The final step is registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant State Medical Council. Once registered, the graduate holds a full licence to practise medicine in India.

Scholarship & Financial
Honest note first: fee-paying international medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk has limited scholarship support, so families should plan as fully self-funded, though a few routes exist.
The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) runs Polish government scholarship programmes for international students and researchers. These are competitive and mostly aimed at specific countries, agreements and postgraduate study rather than fee-paying English-Division MD students, but they are the main national scheme to explore.
