Poznan University of Medical Sciences Admission 2027

Admission to Poznan University of Medical Sciences is a two part entrance examination: a 60 minute, 60 question science quiz and a 20 to 40 minute interview with professors, taken after you register online and pay 85 PLN plus 600 PLN. For the fall 2027 intake there is a session in New Delhi on 8 June 2027, and the online deadline is 20 July 2027.

That's the route in two sentences. Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) is a public Polish university, and its six year Medicine programme in English leads to the Doctor of Medicine (MD), the degree Indian students know as MBBS. Everything below comes from the university's own admission pages, read on 2 November 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • The programme: a six year, 12 semester MD in English worth 360 ECTS credits, taught in Poznan, with patient contact from the second year.
  • The exam: a 60 question, one best answer quiz in biology, chemistry and physics, then an interview of about 20 to 40 minutes on science, motivation and English.
  • The India date: the 2027 calendar lists an in-person session in New Delhi on 8 June 2027, plus sessions in Poznan, Abu Dhabi and other cities from March to July.
  • The costs: 85 PLN to apply and 600 PLN for the exam. Tuition for the 2026 intake was 71,000 PLN a year in years one and two, about 17.1 lakh rupees.
  • The deadline: register on the applicant portal by 20 July 2027. Orientation week in Poznan runs from 6 to 12 September 2027.

What is the Poznan University of Medical Sciences admission process?

Poznan University of Medical Sciences admission has four stages: an online application with scanned school transcripts and an 85 PLN processing fee, the entrance examination and interview with a 600 PLN fee, a second set of original documents after you pass, and a 4,800 PLN down payment that puts you on the student list.

The university's admission requirements page sets the general bar in plain terms: a school leaving certificate good enough for university in your home country, a high level of science knowledge, strong English, and satisfactory grades in biology, chemistry and mathematics or physics (at least two subjects, biology included).

The good news for an Indian family is how much of this you can do without leaving India. The form, the uploads and the practice quizzes are online, and the exam itself can be sat in New Delhi.

Stage What you do Where it happens
1. Application Register on applicant.ump.edu.pl, upload transcripts, pay 85 PLN Online, from India
2. Entrance examination Science quiz and interview, 600 PLN fee New Delhi or another listed city
3. Documents Send originals, English score, health certificate, NAWA recognition if required By post or courier
4. Enrolment Pay the 4,800 PLN down payment, get your visa, arrive for orientation Poznan, September

When is the Poznan University of Medical Sciences entrance exam in 2027?

The Poznan University of Medical Sciences entrance exam runs in person from March to July 2027. The calendar lists 8 June 2027 in New Delhi, 5 and 6 June in Abu Dhabi, and sessions in Poznan on 16 March, 13 April, 18 May, 14 June, 12 July and 26 July. Admission for the fall 2027 entry opened on 1 September 2026.

Here are the dates that matter most for a student in India, taken from the university's entrance examination page and its application calendar:

Date What happens
1 September 2026 Admission season for the fall 2027 entry opens
16 March, 13 April, 18 May 2027 Exam sessions in Poznan
5 and 6 June 2027 Exam sessions in Abu Dhabi
8 June 2027 Exam session in New Delhi
14 June, 12 July, 26 July 2027 Further exam sessions in Poznan
20 July 2027 Last day to register your application online
6 to 12 September 2027 Orientation week in Poznan

The New Delhi date is the one most Indian applicants will aim for. It falls a few weeks after NEET, so you can sit both in the same season. If you miss it, the Poznan sessions on 12 and 26 July are the last chances before the deadline. Keep an eye on our MBBS deadlines page too, because the university calls its list the most up to date set of possible dates, so sessions can be added or moved.

What is the Poznan University of Medical Sciences entrance exam like?

The Poznan University of Medical Sciences entrance exam has two parts. First comes a written, one best answer quiz of 60 questions in natural sciences, with 60 minutes to finish it. Then comes an oral examination of about 20 to 40 minutes with professors from the school. Both test high school biology, chemistry and physics, with the main focus on the human body.

The interview isn't only about science. The university lists four things it weighs:

  • knowledge and reasoning in the natural sciences, focused on the human body,
  • your self-introduction, motivation, interpersonal skills and professionalism,
  • voluntary work or experience in health services,
  • your English.

So a student who can explain why they want medicine, and has spent some time in a clinic or hospital, walks in with an edge. On exam day you get a calculator, a periodic table and a sheet of physics formulas from the proctors. Books, phones, headphones, talking and bathroom breaks are not allowed, and breaking those rules ends the exam with a fail.

The content will feel familiar. It's the Class 11 and 12 science you already study for NEET. The university recommends Campbell and Reece for biology, Giancoli's Physics: Principles with Applications, and a Pearson text on general, organic and biological chemistry. NEETsheet's guides to the NEET 2027 biology preparation strategy, the NEET 2027 chemistry preparation strategy and the NEET 2027 physics preparation strategy cover the same ground. Our guide to the MBBS entrance exam in Europe shows how this format compares with other universities.

There's one more useful detail. Once you pay the 85 PLN processing fee, the applicant portal gives you practice quizzes drawn at random from a large pool of old exam questions. Use them early, not the week before.

Which documents does a PUMS application need?

A Poznan University of Medical Sciences application needs your online form and scanned school transcripts first. After you pass the exam, you send official transcripts, your Class 12 certificate with an apostille, a NAWA recognition certificate if required, an English test score, a health certificate, a photo, a CV and a criminal background check.

All documents must be in English or Polish, or come with a certified English translation. The admission requirements page splits them into three groups.

With the online application (scans):

  1. The completed online application form.
  2. Your secondary school transcripts, plus transcripts from any college you attended.
  3. Optional documents that can earn bonus admission points: an MCAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, BMAT or DAT result from the last two years, proof of voluntary work or experience in healthcare, and proof of research work such as a published paper or conference abstract.

After you pass the exam (originals or certified copies):

  1. Official transcripts of every programme you attended.
  2. Your school leaving certificate, with an apostille. Our guide to the apostille for MBBS in Europe explains the Indian side of this.
  3. A certificate of recognition from NAWA, Poland's National Agency for Academic Exchange, if your certificate is not recognised automatically.
  4. Proof of English proficiency.
  5. A health certificate filled in by a doctor, on the university's form.
  6. One recent photo, 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
  7. A CV.
  8. A criminal background check from your country of residence.

When you start your studies: your vaccination record including hepatitis B, health insurance valid in Poland, your student visa, and criminal record certificates for work involving contact with children.

The NAWA step needs a word of explanation. NAWA's page on admission to long cycle studies says certificates from EU, OECD and EFTA countries, from countries with a recognition agreement, and IB or EB diplomas are recognised automatically. All other certificates need an individual statement from NAWA's director, applied for on the SYRENA platform. India is not in the EU, OECD or EFTA, so check NAWA's list and start this early.

Do Indian students need IELTS for Poznan University of Medical Sciences?

Yes, the admission requirements page lists proof of English proficiency among the documents you send after the exam. The accepted minimums are IELTS 6.5, TOEFL internet based 94 or paper based 587, Pearson PTE Academic 60, TOEIC Listening and Reading 900, a Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency certificate, or LanguageCert C1.

The page doesn't mention an exemption for students from English-medium schools. If you studied in English, ask the admissions office in writing whether that counts before you book a test. Our post on MBBS in Europe without IELTS explains how universities usually decide this. Either way, your English is also judged live in the interview, so practise speaking about yourself and about science out loud.

How do you apply to Poznan University of Medical Sciences, step by step?

Applying to Poznan University of Medical Sciences takes about eight steps, from checking your NEET eligibility at home to orientation week in Poznan. Do them in this order, and leave at least a month between your exam and the 20 July 2027 deadline so the paperwork never becomes the bottleneck.

  1. Check your Indian eligibility first. Confirm your NEET result against NEETsheet's guide to NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, because India's rules apply when you come home.
  2. Register on the applicant portal. Create your account on applicant.ump.edu.pl, upload your transcripts and pay the 85 PLN processing fee.
  3. Add anything that earns bonus points. Upload proof of hospital volunteering or research, and any MCAT, UCAT, GAMSAT, BMAT or DAT score from the last two years.
  4. Book your exam session. Pick New Delhi on 8 June 2027 or another listed session, and pay the 600 PLN exam and interview fee.
  5. Prepare with the practice quizzes. Revise high school biology, chemistry and physics, and rehearse a short spoken introduction about why you want to study medicine.
  6. Sit the quiz and the interview. Bring your passport for both parts.
  7. Send your documents after you pass. Apostille your Class 12 certificate, get your English score and health certificate, and apply to NAWA if your certificate needs recognition.
  8. Pay the down payment and apply for your visa. Pay 4,800 PLN by the date in your acceptance e-mail, then apply for a Polish student visa and travel for orientation in September.

The fee table for the 2027 intake hadn't been posted on 2 November 2026, so treat these as the latest published figures, not your final bill. Why do Indian students choose Poznan University of Medical Sciences?

Indian students choose Poznan University of Medical Sciences because it is a public university founded in 1919 and overseen by the Polish government, has taught medicine in English for over 25 years, owns four clinical hospitals and a simulation centre, and guarantees a dorm place to every first year student.

The university's Why PUMS page and its programme introduction add the detail:

  • Patients from year two. Students meet patients in the university clinics from the second year, and clinical rotations start in year four, in groups of five or six students per doctor tutor.
  • A big international class. Around 1,000 international students from more than 50 countries study at PUMS, so you won't be the only new face in Poznan.
  • Training that prepares you for licensing exams. End of course exams come from the US National Board of Medical Examiners, and a two month basic science review course with Kaplan is included without extra fees.
  • A whole building for simulation. Practice rooms with actor patients and mock OSCE exams help you rehearse the clinical skills that licensing tests check.
  • Free counselling. English-speaking psychologists and advisers are available to international students all year, at no cost.
  • An EU degree. Poland is a member of the European Union, which matters if you later look at training or work elsewhere in Europe. Our guide on how to work as a doctor in Poland covers that path.

Housing is simple too. Incoming students get guaranteed spots in double rooms in four university dormitories, within walking or cycling distance of most hospitals. For the year from 1 July 2026, a place in a shared double room cost 820 to 1,050 PLN a month, about 19,750 to 25,300 rupees, with water and electricity metered on top in two of the four dorms. The university estimates total living costs at 800 to 1,600 US dollars a month. Our page on Poznan University of Medical Sciences and our guide to MBBS in Poland for Indian students add more background, and the Poland country page compares the other medical universities.

What do you need for the Polish student visa?

Indian students need a Polish national student visa, issued by a Polish consulate before arrival, for any stay longer than three months. Before that visa expires, you apply in Poland for a temporary stay card, valid for up to three years and extendable. The application must reach the authorities by the last day before your visa expires.

The university's health insurance and visa page also covers insurance. Non-EU students sign a voluntary health insurance agreement with Poland's National Health Fund (NFZ) after enrolment, using a certificate of enrolment from the Dean's Office, and pay a monthly contribution. Getting a PESEL number, Poland's personal ID number, at Poznan City Hall gives you free access to a family doctor and clinics.

Hepatitis B vaccination is required by Polish law for every medical student. If you're not vaccinated before classes start, you can get it at the university outpatient clinic by 31 December, paying only for the vaccine, according to the information for incoming students.

Start the visa as soon as your down payment is made. Our guides to the student visa for MBBS in Europe, the residence permit for MBBS students in Europe and health insurance for MBBS students in Europe explain each piece.

Does a PUMS degree fit India's FMGL rules?

India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, English as the medium of instruction and registration with the licensing body of the country that awards the degree. After that comes a 12 month supervised internship in India.

The six year MD at Poznan University of Medical Sciences is taught in English, which covers the length and language conditions. The admission pages don't say how the final year's rotations map onto the 12 month foreign internship condition, so ask in writing during your Poznan University of Medical Sciences admission and keep the reply with your offer.

The university doesn't ask for a NEET score either. India's rules are a separate track, and our guide on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad explains why it still matters. Our posts on checking NMC and WDOMS recognition and on the FMG internship and registration cover what happens when you come home.
