Introduction

University of Pécs

The University of Pécs traces its origins to 1367, making it the oldest university in Hungary, and its Medical School is one of the most experienced in the country at teaching international students. In 1984, Pécs became the first university in Hungary to launch a foreign-language medical programme, and it has taught medicine in English ever since. Its medical degree is ranked among the world's top 500 for the subject in the QS World University Rankings and is accredited by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The General Medicine (MBBS) programme is a six-year, full-time degree taught entirely in English, made up of pre-clinical and clinical study followed by a final year of clinical rotations. Admission is through the university's own entrance examination rather than NEET, though Indian students still need to qualify NEET to obtain the eligibility certificate the National Medical Commission (NMC) requires for studying MBBS abroad and for licensing later. The degree is recognised across the European Union and by regulators including the NMC, so graduates can pursue licensing in India, the EU and beyond.
