Introduction

What is NEET?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is the single national-level entrance examination conducted for admission to undergraduate medical and allied health science courses in India. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. NEET ensures transparency and merit-based selection across medical institutions in the country. NEET has become the unified gateway for MBBS, BDS and other medical programmes, replacing the many separate entrance exams that existed earlier.

Step-by-Step NEET 2027 Process

The NEET journey starts when the National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the official notification. Below is the process for students who wish to appear for NEET.

Students must visit the official NEET website and register themselves by providing details such as name, DOB, gender, mobile number, email ID, etc. After submitting, students receive their application number.

NEET Score

What if Your NEET Score is Low?

  • Drop Year

If students score close to the cut-off and believe it can be improved, they can reappear. Students can analyse weak subjects, focus on NCERT, practice regular mock exams, and work on accuracy and time management.

  • Private or Deemed Universities in India

If students qualify NEET but their score is not sufficient for government colleges, they can apply to private medical colleges or deemed universities. However, they should plan finances strategically because tuition fees are higher in such institutions.

Preparation

NEET 2027 Preparation Strategy

A focused, NCERT-first approach with consistent mock testing is the most proven path to NEET success.

Start studying NCERT books

Start studying NCERT books and understand every concept clearly, especially for Biology, because most questions are based on NCERT concepts. If NCERT is understood clearly, students can also take reference from other relevant books.

Create a study timetable

Create a study timetable that balances all three subjects. Try to give more time to Biology, but ensure Physics and Chemistry are practiced daily. Revise what you study on the same day to improve retention and avoid backlog.

Practice Previous Years' Question Papers (PYQs)

Practice Previous Years' Question Papers (PYQs) regularly to understand question patterns, weightage of chapters, and frequently asked topics.

Attempt full-length mock tests

Attempt full-length mock tests in a timed environment to improve speed, accuracy, and exam temperament.

Strengthen time management skills

Strengthen time management skills by practicing section-wise time allocation during mocks. Avoid burnout by maintaining a balanced routine that includes proper sleep, short breaks, and light physical activity.

Stay consistent

Stay consistent. Even 5–6 focused study hours daily over a long period are more effective than irregular long study sessions.
