Introduction

Riga Stradiņš University

Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) is Latvia's leading health and medical university, based in the capital city of Riga. It was founded in 1950 as the Riga Medical Institute, on the initiative of the surgeon Pauls Stradiņš, and today teaches around 2,000 international students from more than 50 countries. Its six-year, English-taught medicine programme is worth 360 ECTS and is one of the most established international medical courses in the Baltic region. Admission is based on secondary-school results in biology and chemistry together with an interview, rather than NEET, though Indian students still need to qualify NEET to obtain the eligibility certificate the National Medical Commission (NMC) requires for studying MBBS abroad and for licensing later. RSU has two intakes each year, in September and February, and the degree is recognised across the European Union and the European Economic Area under the Lisbon Convention, so graduates can pursue licensing in India, the EU and many other countries.
