How to Apply
Admission to General Medicine at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine is through the faculty's own online SCIO entrance examination in biology and chemistry. Indian students must also qualify NEET to obtain the NMC eligibility certificate required to study MBBS abroad, but admission to Jessenius itself is decided by the entrance exam, not by NEET rank.
The online application for the 2026/2027 academic year opens through the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine admissions system, with a €70 admission fee.
An online SCIO test in Biology and Chemistry, 40 questions per subject (80 in total) over 120 minutes, one point per correct answer and no negative marking. Application deadlines are roughly two weeks earlier (14 March, 13 June and 24 July).
Applicants are ranked by their entrance-exam results; the written admission decision is sent no later than 30 days after the relevant test date, and offers are made to the highest-scoring candidates up to the number of available places.
Admitted students confirm their place and pay the first-year tuition to secure their seat.
Students complete the Slovak student visa and temporary-residence steps, with documents issued by the faculty's international office.
The winter semester begins for the new intake in Martin.
Applicants must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent secondary education) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Indian students must have qualified NEET for NMC eligibility. Strong biology and chemistry knowledge is key for the SCIO entrance exam.

Legacy
The faculty carries the name of one of the great figures of Renaissance medicine and is led today by senior Slovak physicians and scientists.
The faculty is named after Ján Jessenius, a Renaissance physician, anatomist and humanist whose family had roots in the Turiec region around Martin. In 1600 he performed one of the first public anatomical dissections in Central Europe, in Prague, and later became rector of Charles University. He is a symbol of the faculty's commitment to scientific medicine.
Professor of physiology and Dean of the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine since 2018, Andrea Čalkovská is a leading researcher in respiratory physiology and neonatal lung research, and represents the faculty's strong tradition in perinatology and respirology research.
A gynaecologist and obstetrician who served as Dean of the faculty before 2018, Ján Danko is associated with the faculty's Centre of Excellence for Perinatology Research and its long-standing strength in mother-and-child medicine.
The Jessenius Faculty of Medicine is led by its Dean, Professor Andrea Čalkovská, a physiologist, and teaching is delivered by physicians, surgeons and scientists across the faculty's institutes, its BioMed Martin research centre and Martin University Hospital, with a strong emphasis on small-group teaching.

The Little Hostel is the residence most associated with international students and is a popular, affordable base close to the faculty on the Malá hora campus.
The Big Hostel is the faculty's larger student residence, historically home to Slovak students, and sits within the campus area next to the Slovak National Library.

Practising in India
To practise medicine in India after graduating from Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Indian students follow a clear pathway set by the National Medical Commission. NEET qualification is required from the start to obtain the NMC eligibility certificate.
Step 1
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination that licenses foreign medical graduates to practise in India. This is currently the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which is transitioning to the National Exit Test (NExT).
Step 2
After qualifying, students complete a one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in India, gaining supervised clinical experience across the major departments.
Step 3
The final step is registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant State Medical Council, after which the graduate can practise as a doctor in India.
