UK medical degrees run for five years (some six with an intercalated BSc), taught in English with an integrated curriculum that combines basic science and clinical medicine, followed by the two-year Foundation Programme after graduation.

Important: MBBS / MBChB in the UK is a direct-entry programme after Class 12 / A-levels. The five-year course (six with an intercalated BSc) is followed by the two-year Foundation Programme, and from 2024–25 the GMC Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) applies to all doctors seeking UK registration.

Academic Qualification
Applicants need excellent Class 12 / A-level results in science subjects, a strong UCAT score and (for many universities) a successful interview. Indian Class 12 students may be asked to complete a recognised foundation year or offer A-levels / IB, and must qualify NEET-UG if they plan to return to India.

Age Requirement
Candidates must meet the following criterion at the time of admission:
- Minimum age 17–18Most UK medical schools require applicants to be at least 17–18 by the start of the course; there is no upper age limit.
Entrance & Application Requirements
Applicants apply through UCAS, sit the UCAT and demonstrate English proficiency; most schools also interview (often multiple mini-interviews).

University Clinical Aptitude Test — the admissions test required by almost all UK medical schools (BMAT has been discontinued).
IELTS / OET (English)
English-proficiency test for applicants whose prior education was not in English; most schools ask for IELTS 7.0–7.5.
For Students Planning to Return to India: NEET-UG is required before admission, not just afterwards, because the National Medical Commission (NMC) makes it compulsory for any Indian student pursuing MBBS abroad. After graduating, you must also clear the FMGE (or the NExT, once implemented) to obtain registration and practise in India.
