University of Pecs Admission 2027: Exam, Fees and Steps

University of Pecs admission for General Medicine is an online application followed by one entrance exam: a written test in biology, chemistry and English, plus a short interview with a professor. For the 2027/2028 intake, the application is open from 1 November 2026 to 30 June 2027, and your school grades aren't scored at all.

Don't read 30 June as the date to aim for. The Medical School says admission is continuous: "the earlier you apply, the more spots we can offer." Exams run from early March to mid July, so a student who applies in November or December has the widest choice of exam dates and, if needed, room for a second attempt.

The University of Pecs is Hungary's first university, founded in 1367, with 22,000 students across ten faculties, according to the Medical School's 2027 Admission and Academic Bulletin. Its Medical School is the flagship faculty, and the bulletin says 3,500 students from 100 countries have already chosen it.

What stands out for a family in India:

• An exam that rewards preparation, not board marks. The bulletin states that high school grades are not considered and admission is based solely on the entrance exam. A student who had a weak board year still gets a fair shot.
• No IELTS certificate. The university's programme page asks for B2 level English but says no language certificate is required. The exam itself tests your English.
• International accreditation. The bulletin says the General Medicine programme is accredited to World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) criteria, valid until 3 March 2030, and that Hungarian medical degrees are recognised in all EU member states, Norway and Switzerland.
• A full practical year. The General Medicine page describes ten semesters of study followed by one year of clinical rotations on the wards.
• A guaranteed first-year bed. The bulletin says the university guarantees dormitory placement for all first-year students.

What is the University of Pecs entrance exam like?

The University of Pecs entrance exam has a written part and an oral part. The written part is 100 multiple choice questions in 1 hour 40 minutes: 20 in biology, 20 in chemistry, 40 in general English and 20 in medical English. The oral part is a 20 to 30 minute interview with a professor about medicine and your motivation.

The school says its 2027 exams are planned to be conducted mostly online. You must be alone in the room, and phones and smart watches are banned. An interview in person in Pecs, in Budapest or abroad with an authorised representative is also possible.

Good news if you're preparing for NEET: the science overlaps heavily. The entrance exam topics list 30 biology areas (cells, genetics, human organ systems) and 20 chemistry areas (from the periodic table to nucleic acids). How many times can you take the University of Pecs entrance exam?

You can take the University of Pecs entrance exam up to three times in one admission cycle. The exam page says that after an unsuccessful exam you can repeat it twice, and all three chances are recorded under the same application number. You only file the online application once, before your first attempt.

The three chances are why an early start matters. Take your first exam in March or April 2027, and a retake still fits before the last exam date on 14 July 2027. Can you get into the University of Pecs without the entrance exam?

Most Indian Class 12 students can't skip the exam. The exemption page offers exemption only to applicants who hold a B.A. or B.Sc. in a medicine-related field, or who have completed at least one year of such studies. It also says an IB diploma does not make you eligible.

If you do hold a relevant degree, you upload your degree, transcript and a B2 English certificate such as IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge, and the school checks your file. If the exemption is refused, you simply take the entrance exam, and the decision then rests on your exam result.

How do you apply to the University of Pecs, step by step?

You apply to the University of Pecs online, then book an exam date and pay the fees. Applicants can go direct to the Medical School or through an authorised representative agency in their country. With the India-side checks added, the full University of Pecs admission sequence looks like this:

1. Check your NEET position first. NEETsheet explains the NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, which you need if you plan to practise in India.
2. From 1 November 2026, fill in the online application for General Medicine and upload your passport-size photo, passport copy, school leaving certificate, transcript of grades and a Europass CV with a photo, all in English or with an authorised translation.
3. Pay the 200 US dollar application fee in your online application profile by bank card, or by bank transfer.
4. Once the fee is received and your application is evaluated, choose an exam date. Direct applicants email the English Admissions and Student Service Office at least two weeks ahead and pay the 250 dollar exam fee.
5. Practise with the free sample tests, then sit the written test and the interview, mostly online in 2027.
6. Get your result within a week. If you pass, you receive an Acceptance Letter with the next deadlines.
7. Pay the tuition deposit. Once the university's Finance Department confirms it, the school issues your Final Acceptance Letter for visa purposes.
8. Apply for your Hungarian student visa or residence permit, sort health insurance, then hand in your hard-copy documents at the Registrar's Office in orientation week in September 2027.

University of Pecs admission costs 470 US dollars before you know your result: a 200 dollar application fee and a 250 dollar exam fee, both non-refundable. Day to day, the bulletin puts average living costs in Pecs at about 600 euros a month, with a dormitory place at around 200 euros and a rented flat with bills at around 500 euros.

What happens after your University of Pecs offer?

After a University of Pecs offer, you pay the tuition deposit, receive the Final Acceptance Letter, arrange your visa and insurance, and register in Pecs in September. The acceptance page says the Final Acceptance Letter is issued once the Finance Department confirms your deposit.

• Visa. Students from outside the European Economic Area, India included, are told on the visa page to contact their embassy or the consular service. The bulletin adds that an Immigration InfoPoint at the Registrar's Office helps with residence permit questions. • Health insurance. The bulletin says you need general health insurance while in Hungary, either from home or from Generali in Hungary.
• Medical documents. The application form page lists a medical certificate, a health history form, a chest X-ray note, Hepatitis B and C immunity proof and an HIV test, needed for a medical aptitude test in the first semester.
• Housing. First-year students get a guaranteed dormitory place through the form sent after the first tuition payment.

Does a University of Pecs degree fit India's FMGL rules?

India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 (FMGL) are the National Medical Commission rules for Indians who study medicine abroad. They ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, teaching in English, and a licence to practise in the country that awards the degree.

Pecs General Medicine runs six years in English, which covers the length and language conditions, and its final year is a full practical year on the wards. The school doesn't say how that rotation year maps onto the FMGL internship condition, so ask in writing during your University of Pecs admission and keep the reply with your offer letter.
