Barind Medical College (BMC) is a non-government medical college at 179/1 Choto Bongram, Chandrima, in Rajshahi city. The college at a glance page gives 20 December 2011 as its founding date. The World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) entry gives 2012 as the year teaching began. WDOMS is a global list of medical schools. It lists the college as private, English medium, with a five-year curriculum.

Rajshahi lies about 252 km north-west of Dhaka. The college About page puts the journey at about 35 minutes by air, 4 hours 30 minutes by road and 5 hours 30 minutes by rail. The college was first affiliated with the University of Rajshahi. The BMDC college list places it under Rajshahi Medical University from the 2017 to 2018 academic year. The university now registers students and runs the professional exams.

Is Barind Medical College recognised for Indian students?

Yes, the degree fits the route an Indian student needs, as long as the student follows India's rules from the start. Recognition rests on three separate checks.

India's National Medical Commission (NMC) does not publish a list of approved foreign colleges. Instead, the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021 set conditions on the course. It must last at least 54 months and be taught in English. All Bangladesh medical colleges teach the national BMDC undergraduate MBBS curriculum. It has four phases. Each phase ends with a professional exam set by the university, here Rajshahi Medical University.

Clinical teaching takes place at the 500-bed Barind Medical College Hospital. The college departments page lists 29 departments and units. Clinical ones include Medicine, Cardiology, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Urology, Radiology and Imaging, and Anaesthesiology. The hospital also has an ICU, a blood bank and physiotherapy.

Who can apply to Barind Medical College from India?

The college's admission information page sets these rules for international students for the 2025 to 2026 intake.

• Twelve years of schooling: Class 12 (HSC or A level equivalent) passed, with Class 10 (SSC or O level equivalent) behind it.

• Recent passing years: Class 10 passed in 2022 or later, and Class 12 passed in 2024 or 2025.

• Grade points: a combined grade point average (GPA) of at least 7.00 across Class 10 and Class 12. The Bangladesh authorities convert Indian marks into this scale.

• Biology: at least 3.50 out of 5.0 in Class 12 Biology.

Who cannot apply to Barind Medical College

• Students without a NEET qualifying result: their foreign MBBS would not count for practice in India.

• Students with older board results: for the 2025 to 2026 intake, Class 12 had to be passed in 2024 or 2025.

• Students below the grade point limits: a combined GPA under 7.00, or under 3.50 in Biology, does not qualify.

Barind Medical College admission process and dates

Foreign admission to Bangladesh private colleges follows the yearly schedule of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the national health department. The college's admission information page gives this timing.

1. Check eligibility. Match Class 10 and Class 12 results and the NEET result against the rules above.

2. Contact the admission office. The foreign student admission page gives the admission number, +88 017 7724 2402, open Saturday to Thursday, 8 am to 5 pm.

3. Book the seat. Pay the USD 3,000 seat booking fee before admission.

4. Complete admission. Pay the USD 10,000 admission fee at the time of admission, once the Bangladesh authorities clear the student's grades.

5. Apply for the student visa. Travel to Rajshahi once admission is confirmed.

Government colleges run a separate quota. Fees are charged in US dollars. The college fee schedule for foreign students, 2025 to 2026 (15th batch) sets a total course fee of USD 40,000, including hostel accommodation. Rupee values use about Rs. 96 to the US dollar (September 2026).

That works out to about USD 8,000 a year (around Rs. 7.7 lakh), with the largest payment of USD 13,000 due in the first few months. Flights, the visa and daily spending sit outside the schedule.

Barind Medical College FMGE pass rate

FMGE results show how well a college prepares Indian students. The figures below come from the official NBEMS reports for 2023, 2024 and 2025. NBEMS, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, runs FMGE.

The trend is down. Results rose to 33.78 per cent in 2024, then fell to 21.95 per cent in June 2025 and 15.00 per cent in December 2025. That is roughly one in seven passing in the latest exam. All Bangladesh graduates together passed at 31.52 per cent in June 2025 and 34.45 per cent in December 2025. The national rate for all countries was 18.62 per cent and 23.94 per cent.

In 2025, Barind Medical College graduates did worse than the Bangladesh average in both exams. A student choosing this college should plan FMGE preparation from the clinical years. Graduates who want to work outside India sit that country's own licensing exam instead, such as USMLE for the United States or PLAB for the United Kingdom. These are separate from FMGE.

Rules at Barind Medical College that catch families out

• Big early payments: USD 13,000 (about Rs. 12.5 lakh) is due before and at admission. Plan this money first.

• Instalments run every six months: nine payments of USD 3,000 fall due each June and December until June 2030.

• Passing years are strict: for the 2025 to 2026 intake, Class 12 had to be passed in 2024 or 2025. A gap of more than one year can rule a student out.

• Internship location: the 12-month internship must be done in Bangladesh at the same institution. Under the FMGL Regulations, any part done elsewhere breaks India's rule.

• Bangla on the wards: teaching is in English, but most patients in Rajshahi speak Bangla. Students need it to take a patient history in the clinical years.
