Six reasons Indian students choose MBBS in Bangladesh

1. The course shape clears the NMC rule comfortably

Five academic years is 60 months against the 54 month minimum, plus a 12 month internship. That six month margin matters, because a repeated year elsewhere can put a whole degree outside the regulation.

2. Indians pay what Bangladeshi students pay

In government colleges, SAARC nationals are charged at the rate applied to a Bangladeshi student, where the admission fee is about Tk 11,000 plus Tk 9,750 in other fees. Non-SAARC students pay USD 5,000 a year on top.

3. Twenty-two seats carry India's name on them

The DGME foreign student circular allocates India 22 MBBS and 2 BDS places out of 125 SAARC seats, within a 224 seat foreign allocation. It is a named allocation, not a leftover share.

4. FMGE results run well above the national average

Bangladeshi graduates recorded 32.38% in FMGE 2024, from 2,822 candidates. The all country average was 23.9% in December 2025 and 18.61% in June 2025.

5. The private route applies online, directly

Private college applications go through the DGME portal with a USD 100 equivalence fee, payable in India through AB Bank in Mumbai. No paperwork passes through a Bangladeshi mission.

6. The seats are currently under-used

Sixty-six private colleges hold 6,001 seats with a 45% foreign ceiling, while foreign enrolment fell from 2,096 in 2022-23 to 1,187 in 2024-25. Applicants are competing for slack, not a crush.
