Abroad MBBS Fees 2026: Tuition by Country and University

Abroad MBBS fees for 2026 start at about Rs. 3 lakh a year in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and reach about Rs. 26 lakh a year in Prague and Nicosia. At our European partner universities, tuition runs from EUR 10,000 to EUR 24,250 a year. Living costs, one-off fees and the exchange rate come on top.

What do abroad MBBS fees include?

When a university publishes its MBBS fee, it almost always means tuition only. Tuition is the yearly charge for teaching, set by the university and paid per year or per semester. MBBS is the Indian name; in Europe the same degree is usually called General Medicine or Doctor of Medicine (MD). Plan for four kinds of cost:

• Tuition. Paid to the university for every year of the course, usually per year or per semester.

• One-off fees. Application fees, registration fees and seat deposits, mostly paid before you travel.

• Living costs. Rent or hostel, food, transport, phone, health insurance and books, paid every month.

• Costs after the degree. The FMGE fee in India is Rs. 4,650 for the 31 October 2026 exam, per the NBEMS FMGE October 2026 information bulletin. FMGE is the licensing exam a foreign medical graduate must pass to work in India.

Abroad MBBS fees in Europe 2026: university by university

futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 European countries. The table shows 2026 to 2027 tuition at eleven of them, one or two per country, taken from each university's own fee page. One-off fees on top of abroad MBBS tuition in Europe

• Application fees. EUR 285 at Charles University First Faculty, EUR 200 at Split, EUR 99 at Comenius and EUR 300 (non-refundable) at UMF Cluj.

• Registration fees and deposits. Rīga Stradiņš charges a one-time EUR 1,800 registration fee for new Medicine students. The University of Nicosia lists a EUR 1,500 administrative fee and a EUR 3,500 seat reservation deposit. Szeged builds a EUR 800 deposit into the first payment, and it is not refunded if you cancel.

• Clinical-year supplements. The University of Nicosia adds EUR 3,000 to EUR 6,000 a year in years 5 and 6 for students placed in Germany, Switzerland, the UK or the USA. An Indian student should avoid these placements, for the NMC reason explained below.

• Summer practice fees. Szeged charges EUR 500 for nursing practice after year 1 and EUR 1,000 each for internal medicine and surgery practice, when done in Szeged.

Abroad MBBS fees outside Europe 2026

Universities in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, China and Ukraine publish their own fee lists, often in local currency. The table uses each university's official list. Rupee figures use the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic rate of KGS 87.45 to the US dollar and the National Bank of Kazakhstan rate of 4.58 tenge to the rupee. Rouble figures use the Bank of Russia rate of 87.92 roubles to 100 rupees. All three rates are for 30 September 2026. Dollar and yuan figures use ECB rates on the same day (USD 1 = about Rs. 95.83, RMB 1 = about Rs. 14.29).

What lower abroad MBBS fees come with

• Kyrgyzstan. A presidential decree gave Kyrgyz State Medical Academy the exclusive right to provide higher medical education in the country, according to the Embassy of India, Bishkek advisory. Families should follow each new Embassy advisory before paying.

• Russia. Voronezh names its English track "General Medicine with elements of English" in its fee list. The NMC requires the whole course to be taught in English.

• China. The Embassy of India, Beijing advisory says students need Chinese up to HSK 4 level, an intermediate grade, to receive the degree. Chinese classes are an extra cost.

• Ukraine. The Embassy of India advisory of 25 October 2022 asks Indian citizens to leave Ukraine, and it remains the latest advisory on the Embassy site.

FMGE pass rates next to abroad MBBS fees

A lower fee only helps if the graduate can practise. The table shows the December 2025 FMGE by country of degree, from the NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025. Nationally, 10,264 of 42,868 candidates passed (23.94%), roughly one in four.

Abroad MBBS fees vs MBBS fees in India

India's fees range from almost nothing at a government college to more than Rs. 1 crore at a deemed university. These are official 2026 to 2027 figures; our guide to the cost of MBBS in India explains each seat type.

Who can pay abroad MBBS fees and still practise in India?

Two Indian rules decide whether the money leads to a licence in India:

• NEET UG. Under a Gazette notification of 1 March 2018, any Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India joining a medical course abroad on or after May 2018 must qualify NEET UG. The NEET result counts as the eligibility certificate, per the NBEMS FMGE bulletin. Our MBBS abroad eligibility guide covers marks and age rules.

• The course itself. The NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require at least 54 months of study, teaching in English and a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. After FMGE, the graduate completes a further 12-month supervised internship in India.

A student who pays six years of fees for a course that breaks these rules cannot sit FMGE. Clinical placements in another country, such as Nicosia's UK or USA options, can break the same-institution rule. Our summary of the latest NMC rules for MBBS abroad explains each condition.

How to pay abroad MBBS fees, step by step

1. Qualify NEET UG and shortlist. Compare tuition, one-off fees and living costs using the tables above. Our MBBS abroad deadlines page lists application dates.

2. Apply and pay the application fee. Each university has its own portal, from EUR 99 at Comenius to EUR 300 at UMF Cluj.

3. Pay the first instalment after the offer. Split asks for the full first-year tuition within one week of the admission letter. UMF Cluj asks for 50% of tuition as a confirmation fee. Semey asks for 100% of the first year before enrolment.

4. Send money through your bank. From 1 April 2026, banks collect 2% tax at source (TCS) on education remittances above Rs. 10 lakh a year, and none on money paid from an education loan, under section 394 of the Income-tax Act, 2025.

5. Apply for the student visa. Romania, for example, requires the full first-year tuition to be paid before the Type D visa.

6. Pay later years on time. Szeged bills by semester, and most universities set yearly deadlines in the study contract.

What if abroad MBBS fees change during the course?

• The fee rises. Some universities fix it for the course. Comenius guarantees the same tuition for the standard six years. Bukovinian and Ternopil fix the fee in each student's contract. Others, such as Voronezh, set fees each year.

• The rupee falls. The euro averaged Rs. 79.46 in September 2022 and Rs. 109.91 in September 2026, a rise of about 38%, per the European Central Bank. Plan a buffer for this.

• You withdraw. Deposits and application fees are often lost. Szeged keeps its EUR 800 deposit, and Rīga Stradiņš does not refund its application and registration fees.

Conclusion: which abroad MBBS fees fit your budget?

For a six-year European degree at our partner universities, plan EUR 72,000 to EUR 145,500 in tuition, plus living costs. Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine charge less, but check the Embassy advisories, the teaching language and FMGE results first.
