University of Szeged entrance exam 2027: the online test and Zoom interview, all nine dates, fees in rupees and the steps to register. Pick your exam date now.

The University of Szeged entrance exam is an online test you can take from home in India: a 60 minute written test with 20 questions each in biology, chemistry and English, followed by an oral interview of about 20 minutes with a professor on Zoom. For the September 2027 start there are nine exam sessions between 26 January and 24 June 2027.
The University of Szeged is a public university in southern Hungary, and its Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School teaches a six year MD programme in English, the European medical degree Indian families call MBBS. Applications for the 2027/28 intake open on 1 December 2026. Every fact below comes from the university's own pages, read on 5 November 2026.
Key Takeaways
- The format: a 60 minute online written test (60 multiple choice questions: 20 biology, 20 chemistry, 20 English) and an oral interview of about 20 minutes on Zoom. There is no negative marking.
- The dates: nine online sessions in 2027, from 26 to 28 January up to 22 to 24 June, each with its own registration deadline a week earlier.
- The cost of sitting it: nothing extra. The 300 euro application fee (about 32,000 rupees) already covers the exam and up to two attempts.
- The calendar: applications open on 1 December 2026 and close on 1 June 2027. In the 2026 cycle, students admitted by 30 April got 300 euros off their first semester.
- The programme: MD General Medicine in English, 12 semesters and 360 ECTS credits, 7,900 euros a semester (about 8.4 lakh rupees), with health insurance for Hungary included.
What is the University of Szeged entrance exam?
The University of Szeged entrance exam is the admission test for its English programmes in medicine and the other health sciences. It has two parts: a written multiple choice test in biology, chemistry and English, then an oral interview in English. Both parts are online, run by the university's Admissions Office together with its local representatives.
The entrance examination page explains how it works. The written part runs on the university's Coospace learning platform while you are watched on Zoom, and the oral part is a Zoom call with a university professor. You can sit a maximum of two exams in one application period, if the faculty offers them.
For you that means no flight, no hotel and no visa just to be tested. You sit at your own desk in India, and you only travel to Szeged once you've been admitted.
When are the University of Szeged entrance exam dates for 2027?
The University of Szeged entrance exam calendar lists nine online sessions for 2027, the first on 26 to 28 January and the last on 22 to 24 June. Day one of each session is the written test, days two and three are the oral interviews, and you must register about a week before.
Here is the full list from the entrance examination calendar, as published on 5 November 2026:
| Session | Exam dates 2027 | Register by |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 26 to 28 January | 19 January |
| 2 | 23 to 25 February | 16 February |
| 3 | 9 to 11 March | 2 March |
| 4 | 22 to 24 March | 16 March |
| 5 | 20 to 22 April | 13 April |
| 6 | 11 to 13 May | 4 May |
| 7 | 25 to 27 May | 18 May |
| 8 | 8 to 10 June | 1 June |
| 9 | 22 to 24 June | 15 June |
Three details on that page are easy to miss. Each session takes about 60 to 70 students, so popular dates fill up. The dates may change, so check the calendar again before you register. And if you pick the very last date as your first attempt, the university says a repeat exam isn't possible, simply because there is no later session left.

How does the written test work?
The written part of the University of Szeged entrance exam is 60 multiple choice questions in 60 minutes: 20 in biology, 20 in chemistry (organic, inorganic and biochemistry) and 20 in general and medical English. Each question has four or five options, each correct answer earns one point, and no points are taken off for wrong answers.
Two rules change how you should pace yourself:
- You can't go back. Once you move on, you can't return to an earlier question, and you must pick an answer before the next one appears.
- There's no clock per question. The 60 minutes are yours to share out across all 60 questions, so roughly a minute each.
Keep a periodic table and a calculator ready for the chemistry part; the exam page says you'll need both. If you are stronger in physics, there's a choice: for exams hosted by the Admissions Office, physics may replace chemistry. The one exception is Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship applicants, who take chemistry.
No negative marking is good news for a NEET student. In NEET a wrong answer costs you a mark; here a sensible guess on a question you're unsure of can only help.
What happens in the oral interview?
The oral part of the University of Szeged entrance exam is a Zoom interview of about 20 minutes with a university professor. It starts with a general conversation, then you answer two biology and two chemistry questions in English. Your interview time is announced after the written test, on day two or three of your session.
Think of it as a conversation, not an interrogation. The professor wants to see that you understand the science and can explain it in English, which is exactly what you'll do every day on the course. A few habits help:
- Answer in full sentences and explain your reasoning, even when you're not certain.
- Revise the core topics you'd expect in Class 11 and 12 biology and chemistry, then practise saying them out loud.
- Test your camera, microphone and internet the day before, from the room you'll use.
The university doesn't publish a pass mark or how the two parts are weighted, so aim to do well in both rather than chasing a number.
How do you register for a University of Szeged exam date?
You register for a University of Szeged exam date in five steps on DreamApply, the university's online application system. The order matters: you can only book a date after your application has been checked and you've received an exam invitation, so apply at least 10 days before the registration deadline of the session you want.
The how to register page sets out the sequence:
- Submit your online application on DreamApply, at least 10 days before the registration deadline of your chosen exam date.
- Wait for the evaluation and the invitation. Exam registration opens only once your application has been evaluated and the university has sent you an entrance exam invitation.
- Open your checklist. Within a few hours of the invitation email, the registration task appears in your DreamApply checklist.
- Book your exam date through that task, no later than five working days before the exam.
- Pay the application fee through Simple Pay inside DreamApply, or by bank transfer if you can't pay online. The exam fee is part of the application fee.
Keep your passport ready on the day, because the university checks your identity before the exam starts. If anything is unclear, the exam team answers at entrance.fs@med.u-szeged.hu.

Exam day rules for an online test at home
The online format only works because the rules are strict, and the entrance examination page is clear about them. Read them a week before, not on the morning of the exam.
- Two devices. One for the exam itself and one for monitoring, placed so the examiners can see both you and your screen.
- Be on time. If you log in late, you can't join that exam.
- Stay on Zoom. Not logging into the Zoom meeting during the written test may invalidate your result.
- Nothing in your ears or on your wrist. Headsets, earphones and smartwatches are not allowed.
- Be alone in the room. So no parent beside you, however much it would help with nerves.
Breaking the rules can mean a cancelled score or a ban, so set up the room the evening before. A laptop for the test and a phone on a stand for the monitoring camera is enough for most students.
How should a NEET student prepare for the University of Szeged exam?
A NEET student is already preparing for most of the University of Szeged entrance exam. The biology and chemistry are school level science of the kind you revise for NEET, and the university publishes free sample tests for biology, chemistry, general and medical English, and physics on its exam page. The new part for most Indian students is the 20 question English section.
A simple plan for the eight weeks before your session:
- Download every sample test from the entrance examination page, including physics, and the exam topic list.
- Map the topic list to your NCERT books. NEETsheet's NEET 2027 biology preparation strategy and chemistry preparation strategy help you keep the base strong, and its physics preparation strategy is useful if you plan to take physics instead of chemistry.
- Practise medical English. Read short patient leaflets or textbook chapters in English and learn the common terms for body parts, symptoms and lab tests.
- Time yourself. Do a 60 question set in 60 minutes without going back, the way the real test runs.
- Rehearse the interview. Ask a teacher or friend to put two biology and two chemistry questions to you on a video call.
Compared with other European medical schools, this is one of the friendlier formats. Our guide to the MBBS entrance exam in Europe shows how the tests differ across universities.
Who can skip the University of Szeged entrance exam?
Some applicants are exempt from the University of Szeged entrance exam: those with at least three GCE A2 levels with an A in two of biology, chemistry or physics, those with an IB Diploma at grade 5 or higher in two of those subjects at Higher Level, and those with a First Class Honours BSc in a related science.
The MD General Medicine course page lists these three routes. Predicted grades can be considered for conditional acceptance, but if your final grades fall short, you take the exam after all. Indian board certificates (CBSE, ICSE or state boards) are not among the listed routes, so plan to sit the exam.
The same page sets the basic entry rules for everyone:
- You must be over 18 in the year you apply, by 31 December, and there is no upper age limit.
- You need a school leaving certificate, and you are not eligible if you failed biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or English in your final school year. Final year students can apply before the certificate arrives.
- Documents must be in English or come with official translations. Verified copies are posted to the university only after you're accepted, and each programme needs its own motivation letter.
Szeged's English level is checked inside the exam itself, and the course page doesn't ask for a separate language certificate for Medicine. Our post on MBBS in Europe without IELTS compares how other partner universities handle English.

What does the University of Szeged cost in rupees?
The University of Szeged charges 7,900 euros a semester for MD General Medicine, about 8.4 lakh rupees, or about 16.8 lakh rupees a year. Twelve semesters at that rate come to about 1.01 crore rupees. The only charge before admission is the 300 euro application fee, about 32,000 rupees, which also covers the exam.
| Item | Euros | Rupees (approx.) | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application fee (includes the exam, up to two attempts) | 300 | 32,000 | With the online application |
| First semester (7,100 tuition plus 800 deposit) | 7,900 | 8.4 lakh | After admission |
| Tuition, per year | 15,800 | 16.8 lakh | Semester by semester |
| Tuition, 12 semesters at that rate | 94,800 | 1.01 crore | Over six years |
| Early bird discount (admitted by 30 April, 2026 cycle) | minus 300 | minus 32,000 | First semester |
| Living costs, per month (university estimate) | 800 to 900 | 85,300 to 96,000 | In Szeged |
Rupee figures use the European Central Bank's reference rate of 4 November 2026, 106.6318 rupees per euro (see the ECB rupee rate). Your bank's rate will differ a little.
Three points from the course page help you plan the money:
- What tuition covers: general health insurance valid in Hungary. Summer practice, textbooks, accommodation and living costs are on you.
- Visa timing: the payment schedule depends on consulate and visa rules, and applicants from visa-restricted countries pay the first and second semesters together. Keep about 16.8 lakh rupees ready for the first year and check your admission letter for your exact schedule.
- Staying on track: tuition can change if your progress doesn't follow the suggested study plan.
The university's Online Open Day 2026 presentation also lists ways to pay less: the early bird discount in the table, a 900 euro SZTE Start Scholarship for early birds, the Albert Szent-Györgyi Scholarship of up to 40% off tuition for top students in years two to five, and 300 euros off per semester for siblings and for children of alumni. These figures come from the 2026 cycle, so confirm them for 2027. Our Hungary MBBS fees guide compares Szeged with Semmelweis, Debrecen and Pécs, and our post on education remittance for MBBS in Europe explains how to send the money.
The Foundation Year: a second route into Szeged
If your science base isn't strong enough yet, the University of Szeged runs a Foundation Year in English: a preparatory course of two semesters (eight months) that prepares you in the basic sciences before Medicine. The 2026 Open Day presentation lists 100 places, tuition of 3,400 euros a semester (about 3.6 lakh rupees) and a 200 euro application fee.
The entry bar is lower too. The minimum age is 17 in the year of application, and the presentation lists English proof at TOEFL iBT 51, TOEIC 490 or IELTS 4.5 with at least 4.5 in each part. For a student who wants a calmer start, that's a real advantage: a full academic year inside the university before the MD begins. Our guide to the foundation year for MBBS in Europe explains how these years work and what to check against NMC rules.
Why Indian students choose the University of Szeged
The University of Szeged combines a big clinical base with a small, personal English programme. Its 2026 Open Day presentation lists 1,800 hospital beds, about 2,400 medical students across the Hungarian, English and German programmes, 200 places a year in the English MD, and a QS subject ranking of 401 to 450 in medicine.
What that means for you:
- Nobel Prize history. The medical school's Why choose us page recalls that Albert Szent-Györgyi, a former rector and professor, won the Nobel Prize in 1937 for isolating vitamin C from Szeged paprika, and that alumna Katalin Karikó won the Nobel Prize in 2023 for her mRNA research.
- Patients from year three. The medical programme page says the first two years build basic medical knowledge, regular clinical practice starts in the third year, and the final clerkship year has 40 weeks of clinical rotations.
- A clear structure. The Open Day material splits the course into a basic module (semesters 1 to 4), a pre-clinical module (5 and 6), a clinical module (7 to 10) and the final year (11 and 12), with summer practice in nursing, internal medicine and surgery along the way.
- A full degree in one go. The General Medicine MD page describes an undivided programme of 12 semesters and 360 credits that ends with the title Doctor of Medicine.
- A student union for internationals. ISUS, the International Student Union Szeged, is run by medical students and funded by the medical school, and its events run from the Freshmen's Oath to the graduation ceremony.
Our University of Szeged profile has more on the campus, and the Hungary country page puts it next to the other Hungarian universities. If you're comparing, read our guides to the Semmelweis University application, University of Debrecen admission and University of Pécs admission.

Visa and residence permit for Hungary
To study at the University of Szeged for six years, an Indian student needs a Hungarian residence permit for the purpose of studies, applied for at a Hungarian mission before travelling. You apply once you hold the admission letter and have paid the tuition the letter asks for.
The EU Immigration Portal page for students in Hungary lists the documents: proof of admission, proof of language skills, a valid travel document, proof of accommodation and health insurance, and proof of enough money for the stay and the return trip. The fee at a Hungarian mission is 110 euros. The permit is valid for one to three years, and it lets you work up to 30 hours a week during your studies.
Our guides to the residence permit for MBBS students in Europe and the student visa for MBBS in Europe walk through each document.
Does a University of Szeged degree fit India's FMGL rules?
India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, English as the medium of instruction, registration to practise in the country of study, a 12 month supervised internship in India and the national licensing test. The six year English MD meets the length and language parts.
How the final clerkship year maps onto the 12 month internship condition, and how registration in Hungary follows graduation, are the questions to settle in writing before you enrol. Also check your NEET position early: our post on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad explains why it matters, and NEETsheet's guide to the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria covers the age and subject rules. Our guides on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition and on FMG internship and registration cover the return to India.
