Comenius University Admission 2027: Exam, Dates and Fees

Admission to Comenius University's Faculty of Medicine in Bratislava is one written entrance test: 200 biology and chemistry questions in 180 minutes, taken online or in Bratislava, after you file an e-application and pay a 85 euro fee. For Indian students the faculty recommends the March session: registration runs from 1 January to 21 February 2027, and the exam is on 15 March 2027.

That's the whole route in two sentences. Comenius University is Slovakia's public university in the capital, and its six year General Medicine programme in English leads to the MUDr. title, the European medical degree Indian students know as MBBS. Every fact below comes from the faculty's own admission pages, read on 3 November 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • The programme: six year General Medicine in English at the Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University Bratislava, ending in the MUDr. degree, with about 240 places for 2027/2028.
  • The exam: 100 biology and 100 chemistry questions, four options each, 180 minutes, no minus marks, and every question comes from the faculty's own preparation booklets.
  • The India date: non-EU applicants are told to take the March session. Registration opens on 1 January 2027, closes on 21 February 2027, and the online exam is on 15 March 2027.
  • The costs: a 85 euro admission fee and tuition of 13,500 euros a year, fixed for the six years, about 14.4 lakh rupees a year.
  • The paperwork: no English certificate is needed, but an Indian school certificate needs nostrification in Slovakia by enrolment day in September 2027.

What is the Comenius University admission process?

Comenius University admission has three stages: an online e-application with a passport scan, your school certificate and proof of the 85 euro fee; the entrance test in biology and chemistry; and, once you are admitted, a set of documents and the full tuition payment before enrolment in September 2027.

The faculty's admission process page, last updated on 28 October 2026, keeps the rules short. You may send one application per programme per year. Nothing has to be printed or posted at the first stage. And the faculty only lets you sit the exam once it has registered your fee payment before the deadline.

For a family in India, the best part is how much happens from home. The form, the uploads, the fee and the online test can all be done without a flight to Bratislava. Your first trip can be the one for enrolment.

Stage What you do Where it happens
1. E-application Fill in the form on e-prihlaska.uniba.sk, upload passport and school certificate, pay 85 euros Online, from India
2. Entrance test 200 questions in biology and chemistry, 180 minutes Online (SCIO) or in person in Bratislava
3. Results Published within 30 days of the exam Online
4. Enrolment Tuition paid, birth certificate, medical fitness, hepatitis B proof, nostrification Bratislava, September 2027

When are the Comenius University entrance exams in 2027?

Comenius University runs two entrance exam sessions for 2027/2028. The March exam is on 15 March 2027, online, with registration from 1 January to 21 February 2027. The August exam is on 16 August 2027, online or in Bratislava, with registration from 17 March to 25 July 2027. Indian students should plan for March.

Why March? The admission page says it plainly: applicants from outside the European Union should register for the March entrance exam only, because the visa process can take several weeks. A result in April leaves enough time for nostrification, the residence permit and the move before teaching starts in September.

One more date sits in the calendar for a small group. If you hold an International Baccalaureate diploma with at least 33 points and grade 6 or higher in Higher Level biology and chemistry, you can apply without the exam between 15 November and 31 December 2026. The faculty says the full rules for that route haven't been published yet, so check the page before you rely on it. Our MBBS deadlines page tracks the other partner universities' dates.

What is on the Comenius University entrance exam?

The Comenius University entrance exam has 200 multiple choice questions, 100 in biology and 100 in chemistry, with 180 minutes to finish. Each question has four options and one correct answer. A wrong answer scores zero, with no minus marks, and ticking more than one option also scores zero for that question.

The faculty's entrance examination page, updated on 27 October 2026, gives you two ways to sit it:

  • Online: run by SCIO, a testing company, in its own application, which uses elements of artificial intelligence to check that the exam is fair. If you don't pick the in-person option on your e-application, you are put on the online list automatically.
  • In person: at the faculty in Bratislava, where you may leave the room once, for at most 10 minutes. The August session offers this option; the March session is online.

You may use a scientific calculator, blank paper and a black pen. The page lists no physics section and no interview. For a NEET student that's a familiar shape: it's the biology and chemistry of Class 11 and 12, tested by speed and accuracy.

The page doesn't publish a fixed pass mark, so treat it as a ranking for about 240 places and aim as high as you can. If you want a feel for how this format compares with tests at other partner universities, read our guide to the MBBS entrance exam in Europe. Students who sat an earlier session in India can read our report on the Comenius University exam held in New Delhi.

How the official booklets make preparation predictable

Here is the single biggest advantage of the Comenius University test: the questions aren't a mystery. The faculty states that the exam contains only questions from its own preparatory materials.

Those materials are two booklets, one for biology and one for chemistry, with 500 questions each. Every booklet question has eight possible true or false answers, and on exam day each question shows four of those eight, picked at random. So you aren't memorising one answer per question. You need to know why each of the eight statements is true or false.

The preparatory materials page sells the 2027/2028 booklets in English as a PDF for 31.98 euros (about 3,400 rupees) or in print for 33.60 euros. The printed set is posted only within Slovakia, so an Indian applicant will normally order the PDF and pay by bank transfer with the reference the order form gives.

A simple plan works well. Order the PDF in early January, when registration opens. That gives you about ten weeks to 15 March. Go through all 1,000 questions once, then a second time marking every statement you got wrong. NEETsheet's NEET 2027 biology preparation strategy and NEET 2027 chemistry preparation strategy help you keep the NCERT base strong at the same time, which matters because you'll need NEET too.

Which documents does Comenius University ask for?

Comenius University asks for only three things before the registration deadline: a scan of your passport photo page, a scan of your school leaving certificate (or an official school letter if you haven't received it yet) and proof that you paid the 85 euro admission fee. Everything else follows after you are admitted.

The school certificate must correspond to EQF level 4, the European level for a completed upper secondary education; if you aren't sure your board qualifies, ask the study department before you upload. If your results come later, the faculty accepts an official letter from your school, in English, stating your name, date of birth, graduation date and the date you'll receive the certificate.

After admission, and at the latest by enrolment day, you bring:

  1. A birth certificate, notarised and translated into Slovak.
  2. A medical fitness certificate on the faculty's form.
  3. Proof of hepatitis B vaccination.
  4. A nostrification decision for your school certificate (see below).

Check early whether your Indian documents also need an apostille. Our guide to the apostille for MBBS in Europe explains how that works.

Do Indian students need IELTS for Comenius University?

No. The Comenius University admission page states that the faculty does not require an English language proficiency certificate. You don't need IELTS, TOEFL or PTE scores to apply. Your English still matters in practice, because you prepare from the English booklets and study six years in English.

That makes Comenius University one of the easier European applications on paper for a student from an English-medium school. If you are comparing several universities on this point, our post on MBBS in Europe without IELTS lists which ones ask for a test and which don't.

How do you apply to Comenius University, step by step?

You apply to Comenius University in eight steps, from checking your NEET eligibility to arriving in Bratislava for enrolment. For the March 2027 session, the first four steps must be done between 1 January and 21 February 2027.

  1. Check your NEET position. If you plan to practise in India later, you need to qualify NEET UG. Our post on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad explains why, and NEETsheet's guide to the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria covers age and subject rules.
  2. Order the preparation booklets as a PDF and start working through them.
  3. Create your e-application on e-prihlaska.uniba.sk from 1 January 2027, following the faculty's step by step manual, and choose General Medicine in English.
  4. Upload your documents and pay the 85 euro fee by 21 February 2027, using your name and surname as in the application as the payment reference.
  5. Sit the online exam on 15 March 2027. If you fall ill, tell the faculty before the exam starts and send a doctor's note.
  6. Check your result, published within 30 days, and start the nostrification of your school certificate.
  7. Pay the tuition and apply for the residence permit at the Slovak embassy once you have your admission letter.
  8. Enrol in Bratislava in September 2027 with your birth certificate, medical fitness form, hepatitis B proof and nostrification decision.

Missed the March window? The August session is still open to you on paper, but the faculty's warning about visa time is real. Talk to the study department in English before you choose it.

What does Comenius University cost in rupees?

Comenius University charges 13,500 euros a year for General Medicine in English in 2027/2028, about 14.4 lakh rupees. The faculty guarantees the same fee each year of the six year programme, so the full course costs 81,000 euros, about 86.2 lakh rupees. The admission fee is 85 euros, about 9,050 rupees, and it isn't refunded.

Item Euros Rupees (approx.) When
Admission fee 85 9,050 With the e-application
Preparation booklets (PDF) 31.98 3,400 Before the exam
Tuition, per year 13,500 14.4 lakh Before enrolment
Tuition, six years 81,000 86.2 lakh Same fee every year

Rupee figures use the European Central Bank's reference rate for the Indian rupee of 106.4505 on 2 November 2026. Your bank's rate will differ a little.

The fixed fee is a real planning advantage. A parent can budget six years in advance without guessing at increases. The faculty doesn't split the fee by semester: you can pay it in instalments from the day you are admitted until the end of August, as long as the full amount reaches the faculty by enrolment.

Why Indian students choose Comenius University in Bratislava

Comenius University's Faculty of Medicine has a long history. Its mission and history page dates the faculty to 1919, when it became the only faculty of the new University of Bratislava, and its first lecture hall was in the hospital that is now the University Hospital. Today it teaches General Medicine and Dentistry in both Slovak and English.

What does that mean for you in practice?

  • A capital city campus. You study in Bratislava, Slovakia's capital on the Danube.
  • A European degree. General Medicine ends in the MUDr. title after six years, a joint first and second degree programme.
  • A transparent exam. You know the full question bank before you sit the test, which rewards steady work over coaching tricks.
  • No English test and an online exam. Two fewer hurdles, and no travel before you know you are in.
  • A fixed fee. One tuition figure for all six years.

Our Comenius University profile has more on the faculty, and the Slovakia country page compares it with the other Slovak medical schools.

Nostrification: the Slovak step for Indian school certificates

Nostrification is Slovakia's legal recognition of a foreign school certificate as equal to a complete Slovak secondary education. Students from a short list of countries (the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, the UK, Ukraine, Russia and China) can skip it if their school is in the registry. India isn't on that list, so an Indian applicant needs nostrification.

The faculty's frequently asked questions say you can start the process after you are admitted. The request goes to the Regional School Administration Office, and the decision must be in your hands no later than enrolment day. That's why the March session matters: an April result gives you months, not weeks.

Start early, keep your school certificate and marksheets ready, and ask the study department for the current form and contacts before you send anything.

What do you need for the Slovak residence permit?

To study in Slovakia for six years, an Indian student needs a temporary residence permit for the purpose of study. The EU Immigration Portal page for students in Slovakia says you generally apply in person at the Slovak embassy in your home country, and that applying is free of charge.

The documents it lists include proof of admission, the official form in Slovak, your passport with two photos, a criminal record statement and proof of financial means. University students don't need to prove accommodation. Documents must be no older than 90 days when you apply.

After arrival, the clock starts. You report to the Foreign Police within three working days, arrange health insurance within three working days of collecting the residence document, and hand in a medical report within 30 days. The permit can cover your studies for up to six years. Our guides to the residence permit for MBBS students in Europe, the student visa for MBBS in Europe and health insurance for MBBS students walk through each step.

Does a Comenius University degree fit India's FMGL rules?

India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, English as the medium, a licence to practise in the country of study, a 12 month supervised internship in India and the national licensing test. The six year English programme meets the length and language parts.

How the final year maps onto the 12 month internship condition is the question to settle before you enrol. Ask the study department in writing how the clinical years are organised, keep the reply, and read our guides on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition and on FMG internship and registration in India.
