Romania MBBS fees at UMF Cluj: 10,000 euros a year, six year totals in rupees, one-time fees, instalments and visa payment rules. Plan your budget today.

Romania MBBS fees at UMF Cluj-Napoca are 10,000 euros a year for the six year Medicine degree in English, the same for EU and non-EU students in 2026/2027. That is about 10.6 lakh rupees a year, plus a one-time 300 euro processing fee, and the university publishes every figure in its own fee document.
This guide reads the Romania MBBS fees straight from the official pages of Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) in Cluj-Napoca: the yearly tuition, what six years add up to in euros and rupees, the one-time fees, how the instalments work and what the student visa asks you to pay first. If you're a NEET student or a parent working out the money side of an MBBS in Europe, keep this page open.
Key Takeaways
- One clear price. New Medicine students at UMF Cluj pay 10,000 euros a year in 2026/2027, the same rate for EU and non-EU citizens.
- Six years cost about 60,000 euros. That is about 63.9 lakh rupees in tuition at the European Central Bank rate of 20 October 2026, if your intake's fee stays at 10,000 euros.
- Small one-time costs. You pay a 300 euro processing fee when you apply, and half of the first year's tuition confirms your place.
- Two instalments a year. From year two, tuition can be paid in two equal parts, due 16 October and 16 February in 2026/2027.
- Your intake keeps its fee. In the 2026/2027 table, students who started earlier still pay the fee of their own intake year, not the newer rate.
What are the Romania MBBS fees at UMF Cluj?
Romania MBBS fees at UMF Cluj are 10,000 euros a year for students who start Medicine in English in 2026/2027. The university bills in euros, and EU and non-EU citizens pay the same amount. Medicine at UMF Cluj is a six year, 360 ECTS degree, the degree Indian students call MBBS.
The UMF Cluj tuition fees document for 2026/2027 lists the fee for every year of study. Here is the Medicine column for international students admitted by file evaluation, the route Indian students take:
| Year of study in 2026/2027 | Annual tuition | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | 10,000 euros | Students starting in 2026/2027 |
| Year 2 | 10,000 euros | Students who started in 2025/2026 |
| Year 3 | 8,500 euros | Students who started in 2024/2025 |
| Year 4 | 8,000 euros | Students who started in 2023/2024 |
| Years 5 and 6 | 7,500 euros | Students who started before 2023/2024 |
Why do older years pay less? The fee notes in the same document explain it: students who enrolled before 2025/2026 keep 8,500 euros, and students who enrolled before 2023/2024 keep 7,500 euros. In other words, each intake keeps the fee it started with. For a family planning six years, that is good news, because a later rise for new students did not change the bill of students already enrolled.
The admission page for international candidates confirms the 10,000 euro yearly tuition next to the processing and confirmation fees. Our page on Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy covers the campus and the course.
How much does six years of MBBS in Romania cost?
Six years of tuition at UMF Cluj come to about 60,000 euros, if your intake keeps the 10,000 euro fee for the whole course, as earlier intakes kept theirs. Add the 300 euro processing fee and the total is about 60,300 euros. UMF publishes its fees one academic year at a time, so the six year total is our own calculation.
That makes the Romania MBBS fees one of the simplest budgets among our partner universities: one university, one rate, one currency. You can set it next to other countries in our guide to the six year cost of MBBS in Europe.
| Cost item | Amount in euros | When it is due |
|---|---|---|
| Processing fee | 300 euros | When you submit your application |
| Year 1 tuition | 10,000 euros | Half to confirm your place, the rest before the visa |
| Years 2 to 6 tuition | 50,000 euros (5 x 10,000) | Two instalments each year |
| Six year total | about 60,300 euros | Spread over six years |

What are Romania MBBS fees in rupees?
In rupees, Romania MBBS fees are about 10.6 lakh a year, and six years of tuition come to about 63.9 lakh. Year one with the processing fee is about 11 lakh. We converted at the European Central Bank's euro to rupee reference rate of 106.459 rupees per euro on 20 October 2026.
| Fee | Billed amount | Approx. in rupees |
|---|---|---|
| Processing fee (one time) | 300 euros | 32,000 |
| Confirmation fee (half of year 1) | 5,000 euros | 5.3 lakh |
| Tuition, each year | 10,000 euros | 10.6 lakh |
| Year 1 with processing fee | 10,300 euros | 11 lakh |
| Six years of tuition | 60,000 euros | 63.9 lakh |
| Six years with processing fee | 60,300 euros | 64.2 lakh |
These rupee figures are a snapshot, not a quote. Your bank adds its own margin, and the rupee will move over six years. Because UMF bills in euros, you only watch one exchange rate: euro against rupee. Recheck it before each payment.
One-time fees and what the tuition already covers
Before your first lecture you pay two things: a 300 euro processing fee with your application and a confirmation fee of half the first year's tuition once you are admitted. Both are non-refundable, as the admission page states. They are the only payments due before enrolment.
| Fee | Amount | Notes from UMF Cluj |
|---|---|---|
| Application processing fee | 300 euros | Non-refundable; card or bank transfer; one fee covers both admission sessions if you are not accepted in session I |
| Confirmation fee | 50% of tuition (5,000 euros) | Non-refundable; confirms your place |
| First sitting of the final degree exam | Included | Already part of the tuition |
| Third attempt at an exam | 150 euros per exam | Only if you need a third attempt |
That last row is worth reading the right way round. The fee list charges nothing extra for the first two attempts at an exam, and your first sitting of the final degree exam is already inside the tuition. So the 10,000 euros is close to the full academic bill for a student who passes on time.
The processing fee also goes further than it looks. Applicants who are evaluated but not accepted in session I stay in the competition for session II without paying a second fee, so one payment gives you two chances.
How do you pay tuition at UMF Cluj?
You pay Romania MBBS fees to UMF Cluj in euros, by card online or by bank transfer to the university's account at Banca Transilvania. Tuition can be paid in full or in two equal instalments. For Indian students, the student visa rule means year one is paid in full before you travel, and the instalments help from year two.
Here is how the 2026/2027 tuition fees document sets the dates:
- Year one: the first instalment is paid when you confirm your place, and the second is due by 16 February 2027.
- Years two to six: the first instalment is due by 16 October 2026 and the second by 16 February 2027.
- Visa rule for non-EU students: the admission page says the full tuition fee for the first academic year must be paid to receive the Type D student visa. So plan to pay all 10,000 euros of year one before your visa appointment.
Late payment has a cost, so set reminders. The document allows a penalty of 0.1% a day for up to 60 days after a due date, which is easy to avoid if the transfer leaves your bank a week early. Our guide to education remittance for MBBS in Europe explains how an Indian bank sends the fee abroad, and education loans for MBBS abroad covers borrowing.

Five reasons Romanian fees are easy to plan
Romania MBBS fees are easy to plan because UMF Cluj puts the numbers in writing before you apply. Here's what stood out when we read its pages:
- One price for EU and non-EU students. The 10,000 euro rate is the same in both columns of the fee table, so an Indian student pays what a European classmate pays.
- Your intake keeps its rate. Earlier intakes still pay 7,500, 8,000 or 8,500 euros, the fee they started with.
- Everything is billed in euros. You track one exchange rate, euro against rupee, for the whole degree.
- Two instalments a year. From year two you never pay a full year in one go.
- No entrance exam fee on top. UMF admits international students by evaluating their school results and achievements, so the 300 euro processing fee is the only application fee on its list.
What do the visa and residence permit ask for?
The Romanian student visa asks for proof that the first year's tuition is paid, and both the visa and the residence permit ask for proof of money to live on. That's why Romania MBBS fees and living costs belong in the same plan. Romania's General Inspectorate for Immigration lists the documents.
For the long stay study visa, the immigration page asks for:
- proof of acceptance for studies issued by the Ministry of Education;
- proof that tuition is paid for at least one year of study;
- proof of means of support of at least the minimum gross national salary for each month of the visa period;
- travel medical insurance with coverage of at least 30,000 euros, valid in all EU member states.
Once you are in Romania, the residence permit asks for proof of means of support of at least the minimum gross salary for at least 6 months, plus proof of where you live and a medical certificate. UMF's International Students Department helps with the letter of acceptance and the residence registration. Our guides to proof of funds for MBBS in Europe and the student visa for MBBS in Europe show how families usually prepare these papers.
Two rules on the same immigration page help the budget later on. Students with a residence permit for studies can work part-time, up to 6 hours a day, without a work permit. And after graduation, the right of residence can be extended for 9 months to look for a job or start a business. Our guide to part-time work for MBBS students in Europe covers how students balance work and study.
When do you apply for the 2027 intake?
UMF Cluj had not published its 2027 admission calendar on the pages we read on 21 October 2026. For the 2026 intake, session I ran from 25 March to 20 May 2026 and session II from 21 May to 16 July 2026, with places confirmed by 16 June and 6 August. Expect a similar spring to summer rhythm in 2027, and check the official calendar when it appears.
Applications are online only, through the admission platform, and documents sent by post or email are not accepted. For the English programme you need a B2 English certificate, unless your school studies were fully in English. Enrolment takes place in the last two weeks of September. Our MBBS deadlines page keeps the dates in one place.

How do you plan your Romania MBBS fees step by step?
Plan your Romania MBBS fees in a fixed order: the exam first, then the application, then the money. Here's the sequence we suggest.
- Check where you stand for NEET first. NEETsheet explains the NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, and its post on the NEET 2027 exam date helps you line up your timetable with the UMF admission sessions.
- Collect your school documents early and get them apostilled, because UMF asks for Hague Apostille authentication for documents from countries in the Apostille Convention. Our apostille guide walks through it.
- Set aside the 300 euro processing fee for the application.
- Keep 5,000 euros ready for the confirmation fee, due soon after the results.
- Arrange the remaining 5,000 euros of year one before your visa appointment, since the visa needs the full first-year fee.
- Prepare proof of funds and travel medical insurance of at least 30,000 euros coverage for the visa file.
- From year two, put the 16 October and 16 February instalment dates in your calendar and send each transfer a week early.
