Latvia MBBS fees at RSU and the University of Latvia: yearly tuition, six year totals in rupees, one-time fees, discounts and how to pay. Plan your budget now.

Latvia MBBS fees for the six year MD in English are 13,500 euros a year at Riga Stradins University (RSU) and 11,850 euros for the first year at the University of Latvia (LU), for the 2026/2027 academic year. That's about 14.4 lakh and 12.6 lakh rupees for year one, and both universities publish their fees openly.
This guide puts the Latvia MBBS fees of both universities in Riga side by side, read straight from their own pages: the yearly tuition, what six years add up to in euros and rupees, the one-time fees, the RSU discounts and how payment works. If you're a NEET student or a parent working out the money side of an MBBS in Europe, keep this page open.
Key Takeaways
- Two clear price tags. RSU charges 13,500 euros in every year of Medicine, and LU starts at 11,850 euros in year one and rises to 14,610 euros in year six.
- Six years cost 77,340 to 81,000 euros. That is about 82.4 to 86.3 lakh rupees in tuition at the European Central Bank rate of 19 October 2026.
- One-time fees are known in advance. RSU asks a 100 euro application fee and a 1,800 euro registration fee; LU asks 170 euros to apply and a 500 euro deposit that is paid back after graduation.
- You pay by semester. Both universities bill per semester in euros, and LU lets you split each semester into two payments after your first one.
- Good grades pay off at RSU. From year three, Medicine students with strong grades can get up to 25% off their tuition.
What are the Latvia MBBS fees at each university?
Latvia MBBS fees are set by each university and billed in euros. RSU charges a flat 13,500 euros a year for all six years of Medicine, while the University of Latvia charges 11,850 euros in year one and a little more each year after that. Both teach a 360 ECTS Medical Doctor degree in English, the degree Indian students call MBBS.
Here is the published tuition for students in the 2026/2027 academic year:
| Year of study | Riga Stradins University (RSU) | University of Latvia (LU) |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | 13,500 euros | 11,850 euros |
| Year 2 | 13,500 euros | 12,120 euros |
| Year 3 | 13,500 euros | 12,720 euros |
| Year 4 | 13,500 euros | 12,720 euros |
| Year 5 | 13,500 euros | 13,320 euros |
| Year 6 | 13,500 euros | 14,610 euros |
| Six year total | 81,000 euros | 77,340 euros |
The RSU figures come from its tuition fees for studies in English page, which lists Medicine at 13,500 euros in each of years one to six. The LU figures come from its Medicine programme on the LU application portal, which shows every year and the 77,340 euro total. LU's Medicine study programme page confirms the 11,850 euro fee, the same for EU and non-EU citizens.

How much does six years of MBBS in Latvia cost?
Six years of tuition in Latvia comes to 81,000 euros at RSU and 77,340 euros at the University of Latvia. LU publishes its own six year total, while the RSU total is simply six years of 13,500 euros added together. Add the one-time fees and you get about 82,900 euros at RSU and 77,510 euros at LU.
So which one is cheaper? On published Latvia MBBS fees, LU's total is about 3,660 euros lower, and its first year is 1,650 euros cheaper. RSU's flat fee has its own advantage, though: you know the exact bill for year six on the day you start, and from year three good grades can bring it down (more on that below).
| University | Six year tuition | One-time fees | Total in euros |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riga Stradins University | 81,000 euros (6 x 13,500) | 100 euros application, 1,800 euros registration | 82,900 euros |
| University of Latvia | 77,340 euros (published total) | 170 euros application (500 euro deposit is refundable) | 77,510 euros |

What are Latvia MBBS fees in rupees?
In rupees, Latvia MBBS fees for year one are about 14.4 lakh at RSU and 12.6 lakh at the University of Latvia. Six years of tuition come to about 86.3 lakh at RSU and 82.4 lakh at LU. We converted at the European Central Bank's euro to rupee reference rate of 106.559 rupees per euro on 19 October 2026.
| Fee | Billed amount | Approx. in rupees |
|---|---|---|
| RSU, each year (years 1 to 6) | 13,500 euros | 14.4 lakh |
| RSU, six years of tuition | 81,000 euros | 86.3 lakh |
| RSU, registration fee (one time) | 1,800 euros | 1.9 lakh |
| LU, year 1 | 11,850 euros | 12.6 lakh |
| LU, year 2 | 12,120 euros | 12.9 lakh |
| LU, years 3 and 4 (each) | 12,720 euros | 13.6 lakh |
| LU, year 5 | 13,320 euros | 14.2 lakh |
| LU, year 6 | 14,610 euros | 15.6 lakh |
| LU, six years of tuition | 77,340 euros | 82.4 lakh |
These rupee figures are a snapshot, not a quote. Your bank adds its own margin, and the rupee will move over six years. Because both universities bill in euros, you only need to watch one exchange rate: euro against rupee. Recheck the conversion before every payment.
One-time fees before your first lecture
Before your first lecture you pay an application fee and, at RSU, a registration fee for new Medicine students. At LU, non-EU students also pay a deposit that comes back later. These one-time Latvia MBBS fees are small next to the tuition, but they come first.
| University | Application fee | Other one-time costs |
|---|---|---|
| Riga Stradins University | 100 euros, non-refundable | 1,800 euros registration administration fee, non-refundable, for new Medicine and Dentistry students |
| University of Latvia | 170 euros, non-refundable, paid after you receive an invoice | 500 euro deposit for non-EU students, paid with the first year's tuition and paid back on request after graduation |
At RSU, the 1,800 euro fee is paid under the rules of International Study and Research Fund LLC, a subsidiary and partner of the university, as its fee page explains. At LU, your application is processed only after you upload the bank receipt for the application fee to the online Apply system.
So year one, with the one-time costs, works out at about 15,400 euros (16.4 lakh rupees) at RSU and 12,520 euros (13.3 lakh rupees) at LU, counting the LU deposit you'll get back.
How do you pay tuition in Latvia?
Latvia MBBS fees are paid by bank transfer, semester by semester, at both universities. RSU wants the first payment within two weeks of your offer of a study place, and LU wants the first semester paid in full before you can enrol. After that, each university follows its own schedule.
- RSU bills international students per semester, before each semester starts. Its fee payment information page says the exact deadlines sit in the annex to your study contract, that the money has to reach RSU's account by the deadline, and that a transfer needs at least 5 working days to show up. RSU prefers euros but also accepts other currencies such as US dollars.
- RSU also lets you ask for more time: you can file a request to review your payment term through the myRSU portal, at least one day before the deadline.
- LU lets you pay tuition twice per semester, but only after your first semester's payment has been made in full.

Five reasons Latvian fees are easy to plan
Latvia MBBS fees are easy to plan because both universities put the numbers in writing before you apply. Here's what stood out when we read their pages:
- RSU keeps one price for all six years. Medicine costs 13,500 euros in year one and the same in year six, so there's no surprise later in the course.
- LU shows every year up front. Its portal lists the fee for each of the six years and the 77,340 euro total.
- Everything is billed in euros. You track one exchange rate, the euro against the rupee, for the whole degree.
- Semester billing spreads the load. You never pay a full year at once after year one, and LU splits each semester again into two payments.
- Both programmes are in one city. RSU and LU are both in Riga, so your living-cost budget is the same whichever you choose.
Can you lower your fees at RSU?
Yes. RSU offers several tuition fee discounts, and the biggest one rewards good grades. Medicine students in years three to six with a weighted average grade of at least 8.000 in the previous semester can get up to 25% off their tuition, and RSU grants it automatically, with no application needed.
At 13,500 euros a year, 25% would be 3,375 euros, about 3.6 lakh rupees. RSU's tuition fee discounts page lists 40 places for this discount in Medicine, with grades reviewed in autumn and awards made at the beginning of December 2026. The same page lists other discounts:
- Family discount: 10% of tuition for a self-funded student whose parent, brother or sister is already studying at RSU. The application window opens again from 1 to 15 February.
- Promotion and social activity: 5% for students who actively represent RSU, for example in sport or culture, with 5 places in Medicine.
- Sports excellence: for outstanding athletes, set at up to 3,500 euros a year.
You can apply for more than one discount, but you'll receive only one. Discounts aren't given to students with unpaid fees or to those retaking courses.
When do you apply for the 2027 intake?
For RSU's September 2027 intake, applicants from outside the EU apply between 1 March and 1 May 2027, according to its when to apply page. Applicants from countries on RSU's additional assessment list apply earlier, from 1 March to 1 April 2027, so check which group you're in before you plan.
RSU also has a February intake. Our guide to the RSU February intake explains how it works. The Latvia MBBS fees for 2027/2028 starters may differ from the 2026/2027 figures above, so recheck them when you apply.
LU hadn't posted its 2027 dates on the pages we read. For the 2026/2027 intake, its admissions opened on 1 January 2026, the online interview had to be done by 26 June 2026 and studies began on 31 August 2026. LU also asks applicants who finished school outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland for a SAT overall score of at least 1200, plus English proof such as IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80.

How do you plan your Latvia MBBS fees step by step?
Plan your Latvia MBBS fees in a fixed order: the exam first, then the shortlist, then the money. Here's the sequence we suggest.
- Check where you stand for NEET first. NEETsheet explains the NEET qualifying marks and the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria, and its post on the NEET 2027 exam date helps you line up your timetable with the Latvian application windows.
- Choose between RSU, LU or both, using the fee tables above and the entry rules of each university.
- If you apply to LU, book your SAT and English test early, so the scores are ready when applications open.
- Open each official fee page and note the intake year it applies to, because the 2027/2028 figures can differ.
- Set aside the one-time costs: 100 euros plus 1,800 euros at RSU, or 170 euros plus the 500 euro deposit at LU.
- Arrange the first payment early. RSU wants it within two weeks of the offer, and LU wants the first semester paid in full before enrolment.
- Plan your bank transfer at least 5 working days before each deadline.
Budget for living costs as well as Latvia MBBS fees. For a student residence permit, Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs asks for proof of means of subsistence of 500 euros a month (about 53,300 rupees), together with your study agreement and proof that the state fee is paid. Our guide to proof of funds for MBBS in Europe shows how families usually document this.
