Medical University of Lodz admission 2027: the MS Teams oral exam, how CBSE marks become points, English tests, fees in rupees and dates. Plan your application.

Medical University of Lodz admission is a two stage process you can finish from India: first your Class 12 marks in two science subjects are turned into points, and if you clear the year's threshold you take a 30 minute oral entrance exam online on Microsoft Teams. For the October 2027 start, admission opens on 15 January 2027.
The Medical University of Lodz is a public medical university in central Poland, and its English Division teaches a six year MD (Medicine) programme that the university itself describes as the degree known in India as MBBS. Every fact below comes from the university's own pages, read on 6 November 2026.
Key Takeaways
- The calendar: admission for 2027 opens on 15 January 2027. Exam sessions and the deadline are still "to be advised"; in the 2026 cycle exams started on 5 March and applications closed on 7 September.
- The selection: two science subjects from your school certificate become qualification points (CBSE A1 at 91 to 100 marks is worth 95 or 100 points), then a 30 minute oral exam on MS Teams.
- The exam: you pick two of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Science and interview questions are worth 32 points in total, and 18 points is a pass.
- The English rule: Indian applicants need a B2 certificate, for example IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 or PTE Academic 59. A medium of instruction letter is not accepted.
- The money: a 24 euro application fee, then 15,100 euros for year one (about 16 lakh rupees) and 14,900 euros for each later year, with a full refund if your visa is refused.
What is the Medical University of Lodz?
The Medical University of Lodz is the largest medical university in Poland, in its own words, and it has trained doctors since a medical faculty opened in Lodz in 1945. Its English Division started in 2003 with eight students and now has more than 700 international students from nearly 70 countries.
The English Division page adds that more than 100 new students join each year and that the university has graduated over 1,400 doctors and dentists in English. The current university was formed in 2002, when the civilian Medical Academy and the Military Medical Academy of Lodz merged.
For an Indian student, the programme that matters is the 6MD. The 6MD programme page describes 12 semesters in a unified master's system, one intake a year in the autumn, an academic year from October to June, and the degree title Lekarz (Doctor of Medicine). Preclinical subjects come mainly in years one to three and clinical subjects in years four to six.
How does Medical University of Lodz admission work?
Medical University of Lodz admission has two stages. Stage one is a score: the grades in two science subjects on your school leaving certificate are converted into points, and you go forward only if your total meets the threshold the Admission Committee sets that year. Stage two is the online oral entrance exam.
The admission criteria page asks for a school leaving certificate that would get you into university at home, with two of these four subjects on it: biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics. The threshold itself isn't published in advance, because it is set for each year.
Two features make this friendly for Indian families. First, the whole process runs online, from the registration portal to the exam. Second, the FAQ confirms that you can apply with predicted or mid term grades while you're still in Class 12, and that there is no minimum or maximum age.

How are CBSE marks converted into points?
The Medical University of Lodz publishes a conversion table for Indian grades. A1 at 100 marks gives 100 points, A1 at 91 to 99 gives 95, A2 (81 to 90) gives 85, B1 (71 to 80) gives 75, B2 (61 to 70) gives 65 and C1 (51 to 60) gives 55 points per subject.
Here is the India part of the university's table converting grades into qualification points, the 2026 edition:
| CBSE grade | Marks | Qualification points |
|---|---|---|
| A1 | 100 | 100 |
| A1 | 91 to 99 | 95 |
| A2 | 81 to 90 | 85 |
| B1 | 71 to 80 | 75 |
| B2 | 61 to 70 | 65 |
| C1 | 51 to 60 | 55 |
| C2 | 41 to 50 | 20 |
| D2 | 33 to 40 | 10 |
| E1, E2 | 0 to 32 | 0 |
You add the points for your two chosen subjects, so the maximum is 200. A student with 92 in biology and 85 in chemistry, for example, would have 95 plus 85, which is 180 points. The table drops sharply below 51 marks, so your two strongest science subjects matter most.
The table uses CBSE grade bands. If you study under ICSE or a state board, ask the Admission Office how your marks are read before you choose your two subjects.
What happens in the MS Teams entrance exam?
The Medical University of Lodz entrance exam is a 30 minute oral exam on Microsoft Teams, conducted in English by a two person committee. You answer four questions from each of your two chosen subjects, then four open questions on socio-medical topics, your motivation and the student code of ethics.
The scoring comes from the Rector's Ordinance No. 8/2026 on the entrance examination, which applies from the 2026/2027 recruitment onwards:
| Part | Questions | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Science, subject 1 | 2 single choice (0 or 3 points each) and 2 open (0 to 3 points each) | 12 |
| Science, subject 2 | 2 single choice (0 or 3 points each) and 2 open (0 to 3 points each) | 12 |
| Socio-medical and motivation | 2 socio-medical, 1 motivation, 1 code of ethics (0 to 2 points each) | 8 |
| Total | 32 (pass from 18) |
You choose your two subjects when you fill in the application form. The MS Teams entrance exam page names the textbooks the questions draw on: Campbell Biology, Timberlake's Chemistry, Giancoli's Physics and Calculus for the Life Sciences. It also links a range of knowledge and a set of sample questions.
For a NEET student the science part is familiar ground. Two things are new: you speak your answers instead of marking an OMR sheet, and there is no negative marking of the NEET kind. A wrong single choice answer simply earns zero.
Exam day rules for the online interview
The online format works because the rules are precise. Read them a week before, set up the room the evening before, and the exam itself becomes a conversation.
The exam page and the ordinance set out what you need:
- One laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone, and a stable broadband connection of at least 10 Mbit/s. A mobile data connection isn't allowed.
- Your passport, the same one you entered in the application form, shown to the camera at the start.
- A pen, one blank white sheet, a calculator and a periodic table. Show each to the camera before you use it.
- Your face clearly visible and well lit, filling at least 40% of the frame. No mask, dark glasses, hood or cap, unless worn daily for religious reasons.
- Nobody else in the room, and no phone or tablet switched on.
If you log in more than 10 minutes late, or your connection drops for more than five minutes, the exam ends and you contact the Admission Office for a second date, which is final. Results arrive by email within two working days. If you fail, you can't retake the exam in the same recruitment, although you may ask the committee chair for a repeat within three working days in justified cases.

Which English certificate does an Indian applicant need?
An Indian applicant needs an English certificate at B2 level or higher from the university's accepted list, even after studying in English at school. Accepted examples include IELTS with at least 5.5, TOEFL iBT with at least 72, PTE Academic with at least 59, and Cambridge B2 First or higher. Duolingo isn't accepted.
The list of accepted language certificates applies to every candidate who isn't an EU, EFTA, Swiss or UK citizen, and the FAQ says plainly that a medium of instruction statement from your school can't replace it. So book your test early. A score in hand by February keeps every exam session open to you.
IELTS 5.5 is a reachable target for most students from English medium schools. If you're comparing universities on this point, our guide to MBBS in Europe without IELTS shows which partner universities test English differently.
How do you apply, step by step?
You apply to the Medical University of Lodz entirely online through its registration portal, in eight steps from account to acceptance letter. The order matters, because the exam button only appears once your documents have been checked and approved.
The application process page sets out the sequence:
- Check your NEET position first. Indian students need to qualify NEET to have a foreign medical degree count in India, so plan your NEET 2027 attempt alongside this application.
- Create an account on the UMED registration portal and choose the 6MD programme.
- Fill in the application form and pick your two exam subjects. Check every detail, because the data can't be changed after you submit.
- Upload your documents: Class 10 and 12 certificates and transcripts (predicted grades are fine), your English certificate, passport and photo, and NAWA recognition information if your case needs it.
- Pay the 24 euro application fee and wait for the document check. Keep an eye on your spam folder.
- Book your exam date once your status reads "Approved, eligible for entrance exam". The ordinance gives you 14 days from that notice to register.
- Sit the MS Teams exam and receive your result by email.
- Send your final diploma and, where it applies, the recognition statement, then download your Letter of Acceptance from the portal.
NAWA is Poland's National Agency for Academic Exchange. Whether your Indian certificate needs a NAWA recognition statement depends on your documents, and the FAQ says you may apply first and send proof of your NAWA submission later. The Admission Office answers at admission@umed.lodz.pl.
When are the 2027 dates?
For the October 2027 start, the Medical University of Lodz opens admission on 15 January 2027. The exam sessions and the application deadline are listed as "to be advised" on 6 November 2026. In the 2026 cycle, exam sessions began on 5 March and the deadline was 7 September at 9:00 Polish time.
The application calendar also fixes the start of the year:
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Admission opens | 15 January 2027 |
| Entrance exam sessions | To be advised (2026 cycle: from 5 March) |
| Application deadline | To be advised (2026 cycle: 7 September) |
| Orientation week | Last week of September |
| Inauguration | 30 September |
| Classes start | 1 October |
A September deadline sounds relaxed, but the visa takes time. A student visa decision can take up to 30 days after a complete application, and consulate appointments are limited. Applying in January or February and sitting an early exam leaves you a calm summer for the visa, the flight and a dorm booking. What does the Medical University of Lodz cost in rupees?
The Medical University of Lodz charges 15,100 euros for the first year of the MD and 14,900 euros for each of years two to six, the same for every nationality. That's about 16 lakh rupees in year one and about 95 lakh rupees for the full six years at today's rate. The application fee is only 24 euros.
| Item | Euros | Rupees (approx.) | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application fee (non-refundable) | 24 | 2,500 | Before the exam |
| First year tuition | 15,100 | 16.0 lakh | Two instalments of 7,550 euros |

| National student visa fee | 80 | 8,500 | At the Polish consulate |
| University dorm, double room, per month | 640 to 790 PLN (146 to 180 euros) | 15,500 to 19,100 | October to June |
Fees are those for students starting in October 2026, from the tuition and other fees page; the 2027 figures may change. Rupee figures use the European Central Bank's reference rates of 5 November 2026: 106.0395 rupees per euro (see the ECB rupee rate) and 4.3890 zloty per euro (see the ECB zloty rate).
Four points from the university's FAQ help you plan:
- Instalments: the first year can be paid in two instalments of 7,550 euros (about 8 lakh rupees). The first is due within two weeks of the acceptance letter.
- Visa refund: if you pay and your visa is refused, the university refunds the entire amount.
- Discounts: there is a sibling discount and a high GPA discount, both from the second year.
- Bank charges: the full fee must arrive in the university's account, so you cover any transfer charges.
The accommodation page lists three university halls with double rooms at 640 to 790 PLN a month; you can book once the first semester is paid. Our Poland MBBS fees guide compares Lodz with Poznan and Bialystok, and our post on education remittance for MBBS in Europe explains how to send the money.
Why Indian students choose the Medical University of Lodz
The Medical University of Lodz pairs a large clinical base with a long English teaching record. It runs three university teaching hospitals with more than 1,600 beds, uses about 1,200 more beds in 34 municipal wards for teaching, and its hospital departments treat over 55,000 inpatients a year.
Those figures are on the teaching hospitals page. The accreditation and rankings page adds the points that matter for a career:
- Recognised accreditation. The university holds a positive opinion of the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA), which has full recognition status from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
- An EU degree. Polish medical qualifications are automatically recognised across the EU and EEA and in Switzerland, so the door to a European career stays open.
- The US route. The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with an ECFMG sponsor note, which lets eligible students and graduates apply for ECFMG certification and the USMLE.
- Strong rankings at home. The university reports a world rank of 301 to 400 in the 2026 Shanghai subject ranking (fourth among Polish medical universities) and third place among 48 Polish universities in the THE World University Rankings 2027.
- A modern curriculum. The programme page describes asynchronous access to all lectures and clinical classes built around reasoning from symptoms to diagnosis and treatment.
Our Medical University of Lodz profile has more on the campus, and the Poland country page sets it beside the other Polish universities. If you're comparing admission routes, read our Poznan University of Medical Sciences admission guide and our country guide to MBBS in Poland for Indian students.
How should a NEET student prepare for the exam?
A NEET student is already preparing for most of the Medical University of Lodz exam. The science questions are school level biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics, and you choose your two strongest. What needs practice is explaining answers aloud in English and the four interview questions on motivation, socio-medical topics and ethics.
A simple plan for the six weeks before your exam:
- Download the range of knowledge and the sample questions from the exam page, and choose your two subjects with your grade points in mind.
- Map the range of knowledge to your NCERT books. NEETsheet's NEET 2027 biology preparation strategy, chemistry preparation strategy and physics preparation strategy help you keep the base strong for both exams.
- Answer out loud. Explain one concept a day in English to a friend or on a recording, in two or three clear sentences.
- Read the Students Code of Ethics linked on the exam page, because one interview question is about it.
- Prepare your motivation answer. Why medicine, why Lodz, and what you've done that shows it, in about a minute.
- Do a mock call. Ask a teacher to put four science questions and two interview questions to you on a video call, with your camera, lighting and passport set up exactly as on the day.
Our guide to the MBBS entrance exam in Europe shows how this oral format compares with written tests elsewhere.

Documents, visa and residence card
After acceptance and the first payment, the Medical University of Lodz issues a student status certificate, which you need for a Polish national student visa (type D, code 09). Once in Poland, you apply to the local voivode for a temporary residence permit for studies, which is granted for 15 months the first time.
The steps after acceptance page and the application documents page list what to bring in original on arrival: the signed application form, your legalised or apostilled certificate and transcript with a Polish translation by a sworn translator, a criminal record certificate for every country you've lived in during the last 20 years, two photos, your passport and your English certificate. A Hepatitis B antibody test is done in Poland during orientation week.
The EU Immigration Portal page for students in Poland gives the official figures: an 80 euro visa fee, a decision within 30 days of a complete application, a passport valid at least three months beyond the visa, and health insurance (public insurance in Poland, or travel medical insurance with cover of at least 30,000 euros). The residence permit costs 340 PLN in stamp duty plus 100 PLN for the card, and students may work without a separate work permit. Visa appointments are booked through the Polish consulate, see the Polish government visa page.
Our guides to apostille for MBBS in Europe, the student visa for MBBS in Europe and the residence permit for MBBS students walk through each document.
Does a Medical University of Lodz degree fit India's FMGL rules?
India's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 ask for a course of at least 54 months, a 12 month internship in the same foreign institution, English as the medium of instruction, registration to practise in the country of study, a 12 month supervised internship in India and the national licensing test. The six year English MD meets the length and language parts.
The university's post-graduate internship page explains the Polish side. To practise in Poland, a graduate passes the LEK final exam, which can be taken in English, and completes a post-graduate internship. Lodz offers a six month internship in English, organised by the university, alongside the one year Polish internship run by the Chamber of Physicians; the FAQ adds a Polish language exam for the Polish licence.
How these steps line up with the FMGL internship and registration conditions is the question to settle in writing before you enrol. Our guides on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition and on FMG internship and registration cover the return to India. For the NEET side, our post on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad explains the rule, and NEETsheet's guide to the NEET 2027 eligibility criteria covers age and subject requirements. Polish classes are part of the course, and our post on local language for MBBS in Europe explains why that helps on the wards.
