Asian Medical Institute Kyrgyzstan MBBS 2026: FMGE, NMC

Asian Medical Institute, now called Asian International University named after Satkynbai Tentishev, is a private medical university in Kant, about 20 km from Bishkek. It teaches General Medicine in English over five or six years. In the December 2025 FMGE, 14.64% of its graduates passed, below the Kyrgyzstan average of 20.21%.

Key Takeaways

  • A new name since August 2025. Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation renamed the institute Asian International University named after Satkynbai Tentishev by order No. 81 of 11 August 2025. The order is shown on the university accreditation and licences page.

  • Private, founded 2004. The WDOMS entry for Asian International University named after Satkynbai Tentishev (ID F0002423) lists a private school, teaching since 2004 and currently operational.

  • Two English General Medicine tracks. WDOMS lists a six-year Medicine programme (since 2004) and a five-year M.D. programme for foreign students (since 2018), both taught in English.

  • FMGE below the national rate since 2025. Per NBEMS FMGE reports, its graduates passed at 19.31% (2023), 26.27% (2024), 16.97% (June 2025) and 14.64% (December 2025).

  • Not the institute moved to KSMA. The Ministry of Health order of 14 September 2026 moved Bishkek International Medical Institute students to KSMA. The same order sends dentistry students of International Medical University to Asian International University.

  • The internship year. India's rules need a 12-month internship at the same foreign university on top of the course. On the five-year track, that means six years in Kyrgyzstan.

In August 2025 the institute took a new name, Asian International University named after Satkynbai Tentishev. The licensing order No. 81 of 11 August 2025 applied the new name to its three education licences. Indian students and FMGE records may still use the old names, S. Tentishev Asian Medical Institute or Tentishev Satkynbay Memorial Asian Medical Institute. They are the same institution.

The university home page reports 259 staff, 3,209 graduates, 6 campuses and 14 hospitals, with students from more than 14 countries. The rector is Professor Toychubek Selpiev. The dean of the General Medicine faculty is Dr Amanbai Matisakov.

Is Asian Medical Institute recognised by NMC and WDOMS?

Asian Medical Institute is listed on WDOMS, the World Directory of Medical Schools run by WFME and FAIMER. The WDOMS entry records three points that matter to a family.

  • Status. Private school, currently operational, FAIMER School ID F0002423, at Gagarin Street 58, Kant.

  • Programme accreditation. Both English programmes were accredited on 10 June 2022 by the Agency for Accreditation of Educational Programs and Organizations (AAEPO). WDOMS notes that AAEPO is recognised by WFME.

  • ECFMG eligibility. Graduates from 2008 onwards can apply for ECFMG certification, the route to United States licensing exams.

The National Medical Commission (NMC), India's medical regulator, does not publish a list of approved foreign universities. Its information desk for students going abroad says it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions. What counts is whether each student's course meets NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021. Our guide on checking NMC and WDOMS recognition explains how to read these listings.

NMC rules an Asian Medical Institute degree must meet

The NMC FMGL Regulations, 2021 set these conditions for a licence to practise in India:

  • Course length. At least 54 months of study. The five-year track is 60 months and the six-year track is 72 months.

  • Internship abroad. A 12-month internship at the same foreign institution that awards the degree, in addition to the course.

  • English medium. The whole course must be taught in English.

  • One institution. Course, training and internship all at the same institution, with no part done in India or a third country.

  • Licence in Kyrgyzstan. The graduate must be registered to practise in Kyrgyzstan, on par with Kyrgyz citizens.

  • Ten-year limit. The course must be completed within ten years of joining.

  • Back in India. Pass the screening exam, currently FMGE, then complete a 12-month supervised internship in India. See what the FMGE exam is.

Our explainer on which NMC rules apply to you sets out each clause by year of admission.

How long is MBBS at Asian Medical Institute?

Asian Medical Institute offers two English-medium General Medicine tracks. The five-year M.D. track opened in 2018 for foreign students. The six-year Medicine track has run since 2004.

For an Indian student on the five-year track, NMC's internship rule adds a year. Plan for five years of study plus a 12-month internship at Asian International University, so six years in Kyrgyzstan. Then come the FMGE and a 12-month internship in India. Get the internship arrangement in writing from the university before paying the first fee.
