Medical Universities in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan's leading medical universities teach the English-medium MD/MBBS programme, are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, and are recognised by India's National Medical Commission for the FMGE/NExT route.

Introduction

Studying Medicine in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan has become one of the top destinations for Indian medical aspirants, alongside Russia and China, because it combines low tuition, direct admission on Class 12 marks, and an English-medium six-year programme. All 11 medical universities recognised by the National Medical Commission are listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and comply with the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021.

  • Popular course:General Medicine (MBBS equivalent)
  • Language of study:English
  • Course duration:6 Years
  • Intake:September (some February)
  • Approx. tuition/year:USD 4,000–5,500 (₹3.4–4.7 lakh)
  • NEET:Required for Indian students (licensing)
  • Total course cost:₹18–33 lakh (approx.)
  • Living cost/month:₹12,000–28,000 (approx.)

In the 2024 Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, 15,135 graduates of Kyrgyz medical schools appeared, the largest single-country cohort of any foreign destination, and 3,792 passed, a national pass rate of about 25%. Performance varies sharply by university, so the choice of institution within Kyrgyzstan matters as much as the choice of country. Kyrgyzstan is a low-cost, English-friendly country with established Indian student communities in Bishkek and Osh.

Why Study MBBS in Kyrgyzstan?

A globally recognised, English-taught medical degree at some of the lowest tuition and living costs of any MBBS-abroad destination.

Affordable, Recognised Degree

The full six-year programme costs about ₹18–33 lakh in total, against ₹70 lakh to ₹1.5 crore at many Indian private colleges, and all 11 approved universities are WDOMS-listed and NMC-eligible.

English-Medium Teaching

Every NMC-approved medical university teaches the international programme entirely in English, so Indian students study from day one without first learning Russian or Kyrgyz.

Direct Admission

Admission is based on Class 12 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology plus a valid NEET score, with no separate entrance examination and no capitation fee at government universities.

Large Indian Community

Thousands of Indian students study in Kyrgyzstan, and Kyrgyz State Medical Academy alone has produced more than 3,000 Indian MBBS graduates, so newcomers find ready-made support networks and Indian messes.

Safe and Welcoming

Kyrgyzstan is ranked 78th on the 2025 Global Peace Index and is known for a low crime rate and warm hospitality, with Bishkek long used to hosting large numbers of international students.

Choose Strong FMGE Performers

FMGE results vary by university, so choice matters: the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (39.66%) and Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (31.56%) posted the country's highest 2024 pass rates.

Osh city in southern Kyrgyzstan

Osh

Osh is the second-largest city, in the south, and one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. It is the base for Osh State University Medical Faculty, with a lower cost of living than Bishkek, a warmer climate and the UNESCO-listed Sulaiman-Too at its heart.
