What Is Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Aligarh?
Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College is part of the Faculty of Medicine of Aligarh Muslim University. AMU is a central university, which means it is funded by the Government of India rather than a state. JNMC was established in 1962, according to the AMU college page.
Because AMU is a central university, JNMC does not take part in Uttar Pradesh state counselling. All its MBBS seats are allotted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), the body under the Union Health Ministry that runs national counselling. You can compare JNMC with other public colleges on our list of government medical colleges in India.

How Does Admission to JNMC Aligarh Work?
Admission runs through MCC counselling on the MCC UG medical counselling portal. The MCC bulletin lists four rounds for AMU: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a Stray Vacancy Round. JNMC appears in the same choice list as All India Quota, AIIMS, deemed and other central university seats. Our NEET counselling guide explains each round.
Qualify NEET UG. Download your rank letter from the NTA website.
Register on the MCC portal. Pay the registration fee and refundable security deposit for central universities (see the fees section).
Mark internal status if you have it. AMU internal candidates register under the AMU Internal quota so AMU can check them.
Fill and lock choices. Add JNMC Aligarh under AMU Open, and under AMU Internal if eligible, in your order of preference.
Check the allotment result. MCC publishes results for each round on its website.
Complete admission at AMU. AMU's guide says selected candidates complete admission and pay admission charges on counselling.amuonline.ac.in, then report in person with original documents.

JNMC Aligarh NEET Cutoff 2026 (MCC Round 1)
The table below shows the NEET UG All India Ranks (AIR) allotted a JNMC seat in MCC Round 1 2026. The figures come from the MCC Round 1 allotment list. Later rounds usually go deeper, so a rank a little beyond these can still get a seat.
Quota | Opening AIR | Closing AIR (without disability) |
|---|---|---|
AMU Open | 1,261 | 4,310 |
AMU Internal | 4,575 | 19,636 |
NRI (AMU) | 46,500 | 1,10,281 |
Two points stand out. First, the AMU Open closing rank of 4,310 is tight, so outside students need a rank in roughly the top 4,000 nationally. Second, internal students got seats up to about AIR 19,600, because they compete only among AMU candidates. Candidates with a disability were allotted seats at much higher ranks under the 5% disability reservation.
For context, close to 20 lakh students appeared for NEET UG 2026 and 11.21 lakh qualified, according to the NTA press release of 16 July 2026. Use our NEET college predictor to see where your rank fits, and read marks required for MBBS in NEET.
