Aadhaar and APAAR ID for NEET 2027
3 Nov 2026
16 min read
The NEET form reads your name, date of birth and photo from Aadhaar and asks for a 12 digit APAAR ID. What NTA checks, how the school generates APAAR, UIDAI limits on corrections, and a step by step to fix mismatches before the NEET 2027 form opens.

Aadhaar and APAAR ID for NEET 2027 need to be correct before the NTA form opens, because the form reads your name, date of birth and photograph from Aadhaar, asks for a 12 digit APAAR ID, and locks both after payment. NEET 2026 registration opened on 8 February 2026, so November to January is the window to fix every mismatch.
Key takeaways
NTA's NEET (UG) 2026 information bulletin asked every candidate to make sure Aadhaar name, date of birth, gender, photograph and address were updated before applying, to avoid rejection or grievances later. Nothing suggests NEET 2027 will be looser.
The live photograph taken during the application is matched against the UIDAI database. A mismatch means a certificate attested by your principal or a gazetted officer, which is a week you do not want in March.
APAAR ID is generated by your school through UDISE+ and only when the name in school records matches Aadhaar. It appears in DigiLocker, and NEET 2026 took it at step 9 of the form.
NTA's 28 October 2026 advisory for JEE Main 2027 tells candidates to log in with DigiLocker or e-Pramaan, do a Re-KYC in DigiLocker first, and keep name and date of birth identical to the Class 10 certificate. Expect the same for NEET 2027.
UIDAI allows a date of birth update once and a name update twice in normal course. For anyone under 18, the only document accepted for a date of birth change is a birth certificate.
What does NTA check against Aadhaar in the NEET form?
The NEET (UG) 2026 information bulletin lets an Indian candidate verify identity with Aadhaar, Indian passport, DigiLocker, PAN or another government photo ID, but it says plainly that candidates who used anything other than Aadhaar had to upload extra documents to prove who they were, and advises everyone to use their own Aadhaar as the mode of identity verification.
Three things then depend on that Aadhaar record. The name, date of birth and gender fetched from it have to match the Class 10 certificate you upload. The live photograph you capture during the application is matched with the photograph in the UIDAI database; where it does not match, or where you did not use Aadhaar, you must upload a certificate with a recent photograph attested by your school principal or headmaster, or by a Class I gazetted officer such as a Tehsildar or SDM, in the bulletin's Annexure VI format. And after payment, the identity details and the APAAR ID become non editable, except in the short correction window, which in 2026 ran from 10 to 12 March.
The bulletin's own words, in the note on documents to update well in advance, are that the Aadhaar must correctly reflect name, date of birth, gender, photograph, address and, where applicable, biometric information, to avoid discrepancies, grievances or rejection at a later stage. Our guide to NEET UG registration documents, fees and steps covers the rest of the form; this post is only about the identity chain behind it.
What has NTA changed about registration in October 2026?
The NEET 2027 bulletin was not out when this guide was written on 2 November 2026, and the NTA examination calendar to March 2027 does not list NEET. The clearest signal of what NEET 2027 registration will look like is the NTA public notice of 28 October 2026 on the JEE Main 2027 registration process, which is the same agency, the same portal design and the same identity stack. It makes three points:
Log in with your own DigiLocker, JanParichay or e-Pramaan (MeriPehchaan) credentials, so that identity verification and biometric data do not conflict at later stages.
Do a Re-KYC through DigiLocker before filling the form, so the portal fetches your latest Aadhaar details rather than an old copy.
Keep the name and date of birth in the form exactly as they appear on the Class 10 certificate or marks sheet.
For a NEET 2027 aspirant the practical reading is this: your DigiLocker account must exist, must be linked to your own Aadhaar and mobile number, and must hold a fresh copy of your Aadhaar data, and your Class 10 certificate must agree with it letter for letter. If NEET UG 2027 moves to a computer based test, as discussed in our post on the NEET 2027 CBT plans, biometric checks at the centre will lean on the same Aadhaar record.

What is APAAR ID and why does NEET ask for it?
APAAR stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, the 12 digit student ID under the One Nation One Student ID programme. The APAAR portal FAQ states that the UDISE+ system generates the APAAR ID against a student's PEN, the permanent education number held by the school, and that the ID is then pushed into the student's DigiLocker account, where it sits in the Issued Documents section as a virtual APAAR card. The ID also appears in the bulletin's list of photo IDs accepted at the examination centre.
NEET 2026 took the APAAR ID at step 9 of the application, between identity verification and the choice of examination cities, and the bulletin lists "register APAAR ID" among the details that are final once the fee is paid. A wrong digit there is not a correction window item you can rely on.
How do you create an APAAR ID for NEET 2027?
You do not create it yourself. The school does, and the FAQ sets out four steps:
Visit the school and verify your demographic details in the UDISE+ record: name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, mother's name and father's name.
Give parental consent. For a minor, a parent fills the consent form voluntarily, and the school keeps it.
The school authenticates your identity, using your Aadhaar number and the name as per Aadhaar.
On success, UDISE+ generates the APAAR ID and pushes it to your DigiLocker. You can also check the status in the APAAR module of the UDISE+ portal through the school.
The FAQ names the condition that trips most students: the name of the student in UDISE+ must match the name as per Aadhaar. If generation fails, the portal returns an error such as a demographic mismatch between Aadhaar and academic records, and the school has to correct the record and resubmit. The sister site NEETsheet has a step by step on the APAAR ID for NEET 2027 written from the school side.
Droppers and students who have left school are the awkward case. The APAAR portal describes only the school and UDISE+ route. If you finished Class 12 in 2025 or 2026 and never had an APAAR ID generated, go back to your last school now, while the administration still has your records, rather than in February.
How do you fix a name or date of birth in Aadhaar before NEET 2027?
UIDAI's rules are stricter than most families expect, and they are the reason to start now.
Change | How many times allowed | What you need |
|---|---|---|
Name | Twice in normal course | A proof of identity document in the new name; beyond twice, an exception process through a UIDAI regional office |
Date of birth | Once in normal course, and within three years of the recorded date | For anyone under 18, a birth certificate only; adults may use any listed proof of date of birth |
Gender | Once | An update request at an enrolment centre; beyond once, the exception process |
Photograph and biometrics | No stated limit | A visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre; mandatory biometric update at 15 for Aadhaar made in childhood |
The limits come from the UIDAI office memorandum of 1 April 2019 on updating name, gender and date of birth. The document rules for date of birth are in the UIDAI standard operating procedure for date of birth update, issued on 24 December 2025: for residents below 18 the birth certificate is the only document permitted, and if the date was already verified against a birth certificate, only a corrected certificate with the same birth registration number from the same registrar is accepted, with an affidavit. The full UIDAI list of acceptable documents for enrolment and update shows which marks sheets and certificates count as proof of identity, address and date of birth, and it requires the name and date of birth to be identical across every document you submit.
Two practical points follow. A Class 10 marks sheet is proof of date of birth for an adult, not for a 17 year old, so a NEET 2027 aspirant who turns 18 only after the form closes needs the birth certificate. And a name change on Aadhaar needs a document already carrying the new spelling, so decide first which record is the anchor.

Which document is the anchor: Aadhaar, Class 10 or APAAR?
The Class 10 certificate. NTA's October 2026 advisory says the name and date of birth in the form must be the same as on the Class 10 certificate or marks sheet, and the NEET bulletin requires that certificate as an upload. Boards correct certificates slowly and sometimes not at all, so the realistic path is to bring Aadhaar into line with Class 10, then let APAAR follow Aadhaar through the school.
Mismatch | What to change | Where |
|---|---|---|
Aadhaar name has a spelling or missing middle name; Class 10 is correct | Aadhaar name | myAadhaar portal online with a document in the correct name, or an Aadhaar Seva Kendra |
Aadhaar date of birth is wrong; Class 10 and birth certificate agree | Aadhaar date of birth | Aadhaar Seva Kendra with the birth certificate; once only |
Class 10 certificate is wrong; Aadhaar and birth certificate agree | Class 10 record | The board's correction process through the school, started immediately |
APAAR not generated or wrong | UDISE+ record | The school, after Aadhaar is correct |
DigiLocker shows old Aadhaar data | Nothing on Aadhaar | Re-KYC inside DigiLocker, as NTA now advises |
What is the step by step before the NEET 2027 form opens?
Put your Class 10 certificate, Aadhaar card and birth certificate side by side and compare name, date of birth and gender character by character, including spaces and initials.
Download the Aadhaar PDF from the myAadhaar portal and check that the photograph is recent and that the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is one the candidate or a parent controls. The OTP for DigiLocker, Re-KYC and the NEET form goes there.
If Aadhaar is wrong, file the update now, with the documents in the table above, and keep the update request number.
If the Aadhaar was made before the candidate turned 15, complete the mandatory biometric update at an enrolment centre. The UIDAI page on updating data on Aadhaar explains the update at 15 and the 10 year biometric refresh.
Create or sign in to DigiLocker with the Aadhaar linked mobile, confirm that Aadhaar appears under Issued Documents, and refresh it through Re-KYC once any Aadhaar update is complete.
Ask the school to generate the APAAR ID through UDISE+, sign the parental consent, and confirm the virtual APAAR card is visible in DigiLocker. Note the 12 digit number.
Prepare the uploads the bulletin specifies: a photograph taken after 1 January of the examination year, 10 to 200 kb in JPG, with 80 per cent of the frame showing the face without a mask and ears visible, against a white background; a signature of 10 to 100 kb; and the Class 10 certificate and marks sheet as PDFs of 50 to 300 kb each.
If you claim a category, check that the EWS, OBC NCL, SC or ST certificate is valid and in the central format, because the bulletin lists it among the documents to update in advance. Our guide to the category certificate for NEET counselling covers the formats, and the domicile certificate for state quota is the other document that takes weeks.
What do the NEET 2026 dates tell you about the NEET 2027 timeline?
Stage in NEET (UG) 2026 | Date | What it means for NEET 2027 |
|---|---|---|
Online application opened | 8 February 2026 | Aadhaar, DigiLocker and APAAR must be done by late January 2027 |
Application closed | 8 March 2026, 9:00 PM | Four weeks to apply; a pending Aadhaar update eats into it |
Correction window | 10 to 12 March 2026 | Three days, and identity details were not among the open fields |
Examination | 3 May 2026, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, pen and paper | NEET 2027 date not announced; NTA has not yet listed it in its calendar |
Application fee | Rs. 1,700 general, Rs. 1,600 EWS and OBC NCL, Rs. 1,000 SC, ST, PwBD and third gender, Rs. 9,500 outside India | Fees are revised rarely; budget the same figures |
Eligibility itself is unchanged in the 2026 bulletin: 17 years completed on or before 31 December of the examination year and no upper age limit. Our post on NEET eligibility criteria 2027 goes through the subject and marks rules, and NEETsheet's page on the NEET 2027 application form tracks the form itself as NTA releases it.

What if the live photograph does not match Aadhaar?
The bulletin's answer is Annexure VI: a certificate, with a recent photograph, signed and attested by the school or college principal or headmaster, or by a Class I gazetted officer, or for NRI candidates by a Class I officer of the Indian Embassy. It is uploaded as part of the application. The same route applies to candidates who verify identity by a method other than Aadhaar.
The fix that avoids the annexure is a new Aadhaar photograph at an enrolment centre, done now, when the photograph in the database is years old. A 17 year old whose Aadhaar photograph was taken at nine should assume a mismatch.
What if the APAAR name and the Aadhaar name differ?
UDISE+ will not generate the ID. The school corrects the UDISE+ record to the Aadhaar name and resubmits. If the Aadhaar name is the wrong one, update Aadhaar first, wait for the updated card, and then ask the school to resubmit. Doing it in the other order wastes one of the two name updates UIDAI allows.
A worked example
For example, take Meera. She is in Class 12 in Lucknow and will sit NEET 2027. Her Class 10 certificate says Meera Devi Yadav, born 14 August 2009. Her Aadhaar, made when she was eight, says Meera Yadav, born 14 August 2010, with a photograph from Class 3.
In the first week of November her father books a slot at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. They carry her birth certificate, which shows 2009, and the Class 10 certificate. The operator files a date of birth update, which is within the three year limit and is her first, and a name update to Meera Devi Yadav, and captures a fresh photograph and biometrics.
A few weeks later the updated Aadhaar is live. Meera signs in to DigiLocker, runs the Re-KYC, and sees the new name and date. Her school then corrects her UDISE+ record and generates the APAAR ID, which appears in DigiLocker in early December.
When the NEET 2027 form opens, she logs in through DigiLocker, the portal fetches Meera Devi Yadav, 14 August 2009, the live photograph matches, and she enters the 12 digit APAAR ID at the identity step without an annexure.
Three things to notice from Meera's case. She fixed Aadhaar first and APAAR second, so the school submitted a matching record once. She used the birth certificate, which is the only date of birth document UIDAI accepts for a minor. And she started in November, so the processing weeks fell in a quiet month rather than in the application window.

Conclusion
Aadhaar and APAAR ID for NEET 2027 are the two records the form will read before you type a word. Compare them with the Class 10 certificate today, fix Aadhaar first, let APAAR follow through the school, refresh DigiLocker, and keep the Aadhaar linked mobile in the family's hands.
