Does the National Overseas Scholarship Cover MBBS Abroad?

No, not for undergraduate MBBS. India's National Overseas Scholarship, run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, funds only Master's and PhD study abroad. It is meant for Scheduled Caste candidates and a few other groups, such as denotified and nomadic tribes, landless agricultural labourers and traditional artisans, with 125 awards a year. A six-year MBBS abroad is an undergraduate degree, so this scheme does not apply to it.

Two other famous scholarships are often listed for MBBS abroad but do not fund it. The Rhodes Scholarship is a postgraduate award at the University of Oxford, and the Lester B. Pearson Scholarship at the University of Toronto funds undergraduate programmes that do not include medicine, since Toronto's MD needs at least three years of prior university study.
