MBBS in Uzbekistan 2026: NMC Alert and FMGE Results

MBBS in Uzbekistan is a General Medicine degree from an Uzbek medical university, open to Indian students who qualify NEET UG. On 1 April 2026 the National Medical Commission (NMC), India's medical regulator, issued an alert naming three Uzbek universities and one offshore campus. Uzbek graduates passed FMGE at 32 and 40 per cent in the two 2025 sessions.

Key Takeaways: MBBS in Uzbekistan 2026

  • NMC alert of 1 April 2026. The NMC alert note on Uzbekistan names Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University and Tashkent State Medical University. It also names TIT Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore, an offshore campus of the Tashkent university's Termez branch.

  • The risk is registration in India. The NMC says a course that breaks its rules on duration, English teaching, clinical training or internship may leave a graduate ineligible to register as a doctor in India.

  • FMGE results. FMGE is the screening test for foreign medical graduates. Uzbek graduates passed at 32.40 per cent in June 2025 and 40.37 per cent in December 2025. The national rates were 18.62 and 23.94 per cent (NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025).

  • Results swing by university and by session. Samarkand graduates passed at 12.96 per cent in 2024, 42.57 per cent in June 2025 and 22.06 per cent in December 2025.

  • No country-wide approval exists. The NMC states on its study abroad information page that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical universities. Each course must meet the rules itself.

What is MBBS in Uzbekistan for Indian students?

MBBS in Uzbekistan means studying General Medicine at a government medical institute or university in Uzbekistan. The main institutions that Indian graduates come from are in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench, Fergana and Andijan. Our MBBS in Uzbekistan country guide covers the cities, costs, visa steps and student life in detail.

Uzbek universities do not use NEET to select students. Samarkand State Medical University admits foreign citizens after an interview in biology, chemistry and the language of instruction, Russian or English, according to its admission procedure for international students. Bukhara State Medical Institute uses the same interview format, as set out on its international admission page.

NEET still matters for an Indian student. The NMC alert of April 2026 reminds families that no institution can guarantee admission outside the prescribed process, which includes qualifying NEET. Without NEET, an Indian student cannot later sit FMGE or register in India.

What did the NMC alert on MBBS in Uzbekistan say in April 2026?

The NMC Under-Graduate Medical Education Board issued an alert note on admissions in Uzbekistan, dated 1 April 2026. It is the latest of five warnings on foreign medical admissions. The earlier ones were dated 8 August 2023, 22 November 2024, 19 May 2025 and 21 July 2025. Our web story on the NMC 2026 advisory sums them up in eight slides.

Which Uzbekistan universities does the NMC alert name?

  • Bukhara State Medical Institute (BSMI). The Embassy of India in Tashkent shared testimonies of Indian students studying at Bukhara through a private contractor.

  • Samarkand State Medical University (SSMU). Named in the alert as one of the institutions the Embassy raised concerns about.

  • Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU). Named in the alert, along with complaints about its Termez branch.

  • TIT Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangalore. The alert calls it an offshore campus of the TSMU Termez branch, located in India. Clinical training split across countries breaks the NMC rules.

What problems did the Embassy of India in Tashkent report?

The NMC says the alert followed a letter from the Embassy of India in Tashkent. The Embassy reported three concerns.

  • Admissions above capacity. Students were admitted beyond the intake capacity of the institute, which affects the quality of teaching.

  • No hands-on training. Students were not getting practical training because patients and staff did not speak English with them.

  • Complaints about the offshore model. The NMC received complaints of serious breaches of its rules by the TSMU Termez branch working with the Bangalore campus.

The alert asks Indian students to take extreme caution with these institutions. It warns that failing the rules may mean ineligibility for registration in India after the course ends.

Which NMC rules must an MBBS in Uzbekistan meet?

Every foreign medical degree is judged against the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021. These rules apply to students who joined a foreign course after 18 November 2021. The table puts each rule in plain words.

FMGL 2021 rule

What it means for an Uzbekistan MBBS

Course of at least 54 months

The study part of the degree must last at least four and a half years.

12-month internship at the same institution

The internship must be done at the same Uzbek university, not in India or at another hospital group.

Whole course at one institution

No transfer between universities and no part of the training in another country.

Medium of instruction in English

All years must be taught in English. A Russian or Uzbek track does not qualify.

Licence in the country of study

The graduate must be able to register as a doctor in Uzbekistan on the same terms as an Uzbek citizen.

Finish within ten years

The full course must be completed within ten years of joining.

12-month supervised internship in India

After passing FMGE, the graduate completes another year of internship in India before full registration.

Our guide on which NMC rules apply to you explains how these rules differ by year of admission.

Is MBBS in Uzbekistan recognised by the NMC?

The NMC does not approve countries or publish an approved list. Its information page for students going abroad states that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical universities. Recognition depends on two things: the course meeting the FMGL 2021 rules, and the graduate passing FMGE.

The university should also be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS), the global register of medical schools. A listing alone does not prove the English track meets NMC rules. Our guide on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition walks through the search step by step.

FMGE pass rate for MBBS in Uzbekistan graduates (2023 to 2025)

FMGE, the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, is the screening test a foreign medical graduate must pass to work in India. It is run by NBEMS, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. The figures below come from the NBEMS reports for FMGE 2023, FMGE 2024 and FMGE 2025. Our guide to the FMGE exam explains the pattern and marking.

What do these FMGE results mean for a family?

The pass rate of a single university moves a lot from one session to the next. Samarkand went from 12.96 per cent to 42.57 per cent and back to 22.06 per cent in three reports. Bukhara fell from 47.83 per cent in 2024 to 28.19 per cent in June 2025. Small groups of candidates make the rate jump.

So a family should look at three sessions together, not one good result. Most of these graduates joined before the April 2026 alert. The alert concerns how students are being taught now, so past pass rates do not settle the question. Our web story on FMGE pass rates by country compares Uzbekistan with other countries.

What to check before choosing a university for MBBS in Uzbekistan

These checks come straight from the FMGL 2021 rules and the April 2026 NMC alert. Ask for each answer in writing from the university itself.

  1. Is the university named in the NMC alert? Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University and Tashkent State Medical University, including its Termez branch, are named.

  2. Is any part of the course outside Uzbekistan? An offshore campus in India, such as the Bangalore model in the alert, breaks the single-institution rule.

  3. Is the course taught in English in every year? Get the medium written into the contract, including the clinical years.

  4. Is the internship 12 months at the same university? An internship done elsewhere does not meet the rules.

  5. Does the degree carry a licence to practise in Uzbekistan? The FMGL rules require the same licence an Uzbek citizen would get.

  6. Is the admission made with the university itself? The NMC alert warns against unverified intermediaries and says fees should be paid only after checking compliance.

  7. How many Indian students are in the year group? The Embassy flagged admissions above capacity, so ask for the approved intake.

What happens after MBBS in Uzbekistan?

To practise in India, a graduate must pass FMGE and then complete a 12-month supervised internship in India, as set out in the FMGL Regulations 2021. NBEMS publishes FMGE dates and notices on its FMGE exam page. Our FMGE 2026 pass rate analysis tracks the latest sessions.

A graduate who wants to work outside India sits that country's licensing exam. Examples are USMLE for the United States and PLAB for the United Kingdom. Each country sets its own rules on which foreign degrees it accepts.

Does futureMBBS place students for MBBS in Uzbekistan?

No. futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 countries: Czech Republic (5), Hungary (4), Poland (3), Slovakia (3), Croatia (2), Latvia (2), Romania (2), Cyprus (1) and Lithuania (1). Uzbekistan is not one of them. We publish this guide so families comparing Central Asia and MBBS in Europe have the official facts in one place.

Families also weighing a neighbouring country can read our MBBS in Kyrgyzstan guide and our page on eligibility for MBBS abroad.

Conclusion: is MBBS in Uzbekistan safe to choose in 2026?

MBBS in Uzbekistan can still lead to a career in India, and recent FMGE results for Uzbek graduates are above the national average. The April 2026 NMC alert changes how carefully a family must choose. Avoid any course that is not fully in English, not at one institution, or offered through an offshore campus. Check every FMGL rule in writing before paying a fee.

Frequently asked questions about MBBS in Uzbekistan

Is MBBS in Uzbekistan valid in India in 2026?

Yes, if the course meets the NMC FMGL Regulations 2021. That means at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same university, English teaching throughout and a licence in Uzbekistan. The graduate must then pass FMGE and a 12-month internship in India. The NMC does not approve whole countries.

Which Uzbekistan universities are named in the NMC alert?

The NMC alert of 1 April 2026 names Bukhara State Medical Institute, Samarkand State Medical University and Tashkent State Medical University. It also names TIT Institute of Medical Sciences in Bangalore, which it describes as an offshore campus of the Tashkent State Medical University Termez branch. The alert followed concerns raised by the Embassy of India in Tashkent.

What is the FMGE pass rate for Uzbekistan?

In December 2025, 976 Uzbek graduates sat FMGE and 394 passed, a pass rate of 40.37 per cent. In June 2025 the rate was 32.40 per cent. Both were above the national rates of 23.94 and 18.62 per cent, according to the NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025.

Which Uzbekistan university has the best FMGE result?

In December 2025, Fergana Medical Institute of Public Health had the highest rate, with 63 of 123 candidates passing (51.22 per cent). The Urgench Branch of Tashkent Medical Academy followed at 47.11 per cent. Results swing between sessions, so families should compare at least three sessions before deciding.

Is NEET required for MBBS in Uzbekistan?

Yes, for Indian students. Uzbek universities admit foreign students through an interview in biology, chemistry and the language of instruction. The NMC still requires a NEET UG qualification for an Indian student who wants to sit FMGE and register in India later. Its April 2026 alert repeats this point.

Is MBBS in Uzbekistan taught in English?

Uzbek universities offer international students teaching in Russian or English. Samarkand State Medical University's contract for foreign students names both languages. The NMC accepts only an English-medium degree, so the student must join the English track. Families should get English teaching for every year written into the contract.

Can I do my internship in India after MBBS in Uzbekistan?

Not instead of the Uzbek internship. The FMGL Regulations 2021 require a 12-month internship at the same foreign university where the student studied. After passing FMGE, the graduate then completes a separate 12-month supervised internship in India before getting full registration with a State Medical Council.
