The Fifth Warning in Three Years

NMC's Under-Graduate Medical Education Board issued its latest advisory on foreign medical admissions on April 1, 2026. It follows earlier notices dated August 8, 2023, November 22, 2024, May 19, 2025 and July 21, 2025.

What Is Actually at Stake

Studying at a foreign medical college that does not meet the FMGL Regulations, 2021 can disqualify you from medical registration in India. You keep the degree. The licence does not follow.

54 Months, One Institution

The regulations require a minimum of 54 months of medical education completed at a single institution. Transferring mid-course or splitting the degree across campuses breaks compliance.

English Must Be the Medium

The medium of instruction must be English throughout the course. Programmes that switch to the local language in later clinical years do not meet this condition.

Internship at the Same University

A 12-month internship must be completed at the same foreign institution where the course was studied. Returning early to do it in India does not satisfy the requirement.

Four Colleges Named

In its July 2025 advisory, NMC named three institutions in Belize and the Chirchik Branch of Tashkent State Medical University, Uzbekistan, citing weak infrastructure, poor clinical training, excessive fees, refund denials and harassment of Indian students.

Internship Slots Are Finite

For 2026-27, NMC has earmarked 7.5 percent of intern intake in Indian medical colleges for foreign medical graduates. Slots follow a set formula and are not automatic on return.
