Kharkiv International Medical University 2026: USD 2,500 yearly fee, online teaching, Indian Embassy advice, NMC online study rules and FMGE results for India.

Kharkiv International Medical University (KhIMU) is a small private medical university in Kharkiv, Ukraine, founded in 2018. It still admits foreign students in 2026, at USD 2,500 a year. But it says its campus is not used for mass in-person teaching during the war. For an Indian student, that clashes with NMC rules on online study.
Updated on 30 September 2026.
Key Takeaways
Teaching is mainly online. The university says its physical campus is temporarily not used for mass in-person learning, and teaching runs on online platforms (KhIMU general information page).
NMC counts online study only if it is made up in person. NMC's notice of 18 March 2026 says online periods must be compensated at the university, or through clerkship in India (NMC public notice of 18 March 2026).
Fees for 2026 to 2027. Foreign students pay the equivalent of USD 2,500 a year, under Rector's Order No. BC-67 of 11 June 2026 (KhIMU tuition fees page).
Very few graduates sit FMGE. Across the four FMGE exams from 2023 to December 2025, 16 graduates appeared and 1 passed (NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025).
India's embassy advice is unchanged. The Embassy of India in Kyiv's latest advisory, dated 25 October 2022, asks all Indian citizens to leave Ukraine (Embassy of India advisory, 25 October 2022).
Not a futureMBBS partner. futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 European countries, and Ukraine is not one of them (futureMBBS partner universities).

Is Kharkiv International Medical University teaching in person in 2026?
No, not in the usual way. The university's own page says physical campuses are temporarily not used for mass in-person learning. It says teaching for students from Europe, Asia and Africa runs through secure online platforms. Student and staff safety is given as the reason (KhIMU general information page).
The university also keeps a library of recorded video lectures for all subjects (KhIMU virtual education page). Its news page shows it is active, with events posted in September 2026 (KhIMU official website).
For an Indian family, this is the single most important fact on this page. The next two sections explain why.

How NMC's online study rule affects Kharkiv International Medical University students
On 18 March 2026, NMC clarified how online study counts for foreign medical graduates (NMC public notice of 18 March 2026). NMC is the National Medical Commission, India's medical regulator. The notice builds on earlier notices of 7 December 2023 and 19 June 2024. Our web story on the NMC online classes rule gives the short version.
Online time must be made up in person. Any theory, practical or internship period taught online must be compensated by physical attendance at the parent foreign university.
The university must arrange it. This can be through extra classes or a longer course.
A compensatory certificate is needed. The graduate shows a certificate from the university, with transcripts, confirming the online part was made up in person.
Otherwise, clerkship in India. A graduate who did not make up the online time must complete one or two years of supervised hospital training in India.
State Medical Councils check before registration. They check the FMGE pass and the compensation, including passport entry and exit stamps.
Put simply, a student taught online at Kharkiv International Medical University could face one to two extra years before registering in India. That is on top of the course and internship.
What NMC rules would a new Kharkiv International Medical University student have to meet?
Students who join a foreign medical course now follow the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021 (NMC FMGL Regulations 2021). Our guide on which NMC rules apply to you explains them in full.
FMGL rule | What it means at Kharkiv International Medical University |
|---|---|
Course of at least 54 months | The Medicine programme of 5 years 10 months meets the length rule |
12-month internship at the same foreign university | The internship must also be done at Kharkiv International Medical University, on top of the course |
Teaching in English | Only the English-medium programme can count |
Whole course at the same institution, outside India | No part of training can be done in India or in a third country |
Licence to practise in Ukraine | The graduate must be registered to practise in Ukraine, on par with a Ukrainian citizen |
Finish within ten years of joining | The whole course must be completed within ten years |
FMGE, then 12-month supervised internship in India | Both come after graduation, before full registration in India |
What happened to Indian students in Ukraine after 2022?
Indian students in Ukraine were brought home under Operation Ganga between 26 February and 11 March 2022 (NMC public notice of 7 December 2023). NMC then issued one-time measures for these students.
Date | NMC decision | Who it covers |
|---|---|---|
6 and 15 September 2022 | Academic Mobility Programme: students could study temporarily at universities in 29 listed countries, with the Ukrainian university still awarding the degree | Indian students studying in Ukraine |
7 December 2023 | Mobility extended as a one-time measure | Students who joined before 18 November 2021 |
7 December 2023 | Permission to transfer to another country except India, which expired on 7 March 2024 | Students who joined on or after 18 November 2021 and were in year 1, 2 or 3 |
7 December 2023 | One or two years of clinical clerkship in India for students who finished online | Final-year and penultimate-year students |
Sources: NMC notices of 6 and 15 September 2022 and the NMC public notice of 7 December 2023. None of these relaxations applies to a student joining Kharkiv International Medical University now.

Is Kharkiv safe for Indian students in 2026?
The Embassy of India in Kyiv has not changed its advice since October 2022. Its advisory of 25 October 2022 asks all Indian citizens in Ukraine to leave immediately by available means (Embassy of India advisory, 25 October 2022). It builds on the advisory of 19 October 2022. It is still the newest advisory on the Embassy of India advisory page.
Kharkiv is in eastern Ukraine. The university itself describes studying through air raid sirens and keeping education going "even under shelling" (KhIMU With Ukraine in our hearts page). A family should read the embassy advisory before any other step.

Kharkiv International Medical University FMGE results from 2023 to 2025
FMGE, the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, is the screening test a foreign graduate must pass to work as a doctor in India. NBEMS, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, runs it and publishes results for each university (NBEMS FMGE page).
FMGE exam | Appeared | Passed | Pass rate |
|---|---|---|---|
2023, both exams (NBEMS 2023 report) | 6 | 0 | 0.00% |
2024, both exams (NBEMS 2024 report) | 5 | 1 | 20.00% |
June 2025 (NBEMS 2025 report) | 2 | 0 | 0.00% |
December 2025 (NBEMS 2025 report) | 3 | 0 | 0.00% |
The numbers are very small, so pass rates swing widely. The clearer picture is the total: 16 graduates appeared across four years of exams, and 1 passed.
For comparison, all Ukraine graduates passed at 18.62% in June 2025 (546 of 2,933) and 21.48% in December 2025 (638 of 2,970). Nationally, 23.94% of all candidates passed in December 2025. See our FMGE pass rates for MBBS abroad and the country-wise FMGE pass rate web story.
Is Kharkiv International Medical University recognised?
In Ukraine, the Medicine programme holds state accreditation certificate No. 11681, valid until 1 July 2027 (KhIMU accreditation certificate No. 11681). The university also lists an international institutional accreditation from the Independent Accreditation and Rating Agency (IARA), dated 24 December 2020 (KhIMU licences and accreditations page).
For India, what counts is whether a graduate's own course meets every FMGL rule above. That includes English medium, the internship at the same university and in-person study. NBEMS reports show Kharkiv International Medical University graduates sitting FMGE each year. Our guide on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition explains the checks.
Clinical training at Kharkiv International Medical University
The university's clinical placement page names Merefa Central District Hospital and the V. Shapoval Nephro-Urological Center among its placement bases (KhIMU clinical placement page). Practical placements run in the 4th, 5th and 6th years. The Faculty of Medicine is led by Dean Viktoriia Kudelko (KhIMU Faculty of Medicine).

Does futureMBBS place students at Kharkiv International Medical University?
No. futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 countries: the Czech Republic (5), Hungary (4), Poland (3), Slovakia (3), Croatia (2), Latvia (2), Romania (2), Cyprus (1) and Lithuania (1). Ukraine is not among them (futureMBBS partner universities).
All of these partner universities teach in person on their own campuses. For one example, see our page on MBBS in Hungary.
Conclusion: Kharkiv International Medical University in 2026
Kharkiv International Medical University is a small private university that still admits foreign students, at USD 2,500 a year. Three facts decide the question for an Indian family. Teaching is mainly online, which NMC counts only if made up in person. India's embassy still asks its citizens to leave Ukraine. And only 1 of 16 graduates passed FMGE from 2023 to 2025.
