Key Takeaways
Old university, new name. Medical classes in Voronezh began on 12 November 1918. The institute took N.N. Burdenko's name in 1977 and became a university in 2015 (Voronezh State Medical University history page).
English track fee. General Medicine for foreign students "with elements of English" costs 430,000 roubles in year one for 2026 to 2027, about Rs. 4.9 lakh (September 2026) (Voronezh State Medical University fee list for 2026 to 2027).
Taught in English and Russian. Rector's order No. 522 of 5 July 2023 says General Medicine for foreign citizens is taught "in English and Russian" (Voronezh State Medical University order on language of teaching).
FMGE results are low. Voronezh State Medical University graduates passed FMGE at 14.61% in June 2025 and 20.78% in December 2025, roughly one in six to one in five (NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025).
Not a futureMBBS partner. futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 European countries. Russia is not one of them (futureMBBS partner universities).

General Medicine at Voronezh State Medical University for Indian students
General Medicine is the course a future doctor joins. It is Russia's six-year medical degree, and the university's international admissions page labels it MBBS for foreign applicants (Voronezh State Medical University international admissions page). The English About page says the Faculty of General Medicine is the oldest and largest faculty, with over 3,050 students (English About page).
Foreign students are taught through the International Institute of Medical Education and Cooperation, known by its Russian initials MIMOS. Its director is Anna Vladimirovna Karpova. MIMOS has its own Department of Russian Language and Department of Foreign Languages.
Language of teaching at Voronezh State Medical University
This is the most important point on this page for an Indian family. The university's language order, No. 522 of 5 July 2023, says every programme is taught in Russian. The one exception is General Medicine for foreign citizens, which is taught "in English and Russian" (order No. 522 on language of teaching).
The 2026 to 2027 fee list names the English track "General Medicine (with elements of English)" (fee list for 2026 to 2027). The NMC FMGL Regulations 2021 need the whole course to be taught in English (NMC FMGL Regulations 2021). FMGL means Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate, the rules India uses to accept a foreign medical degree. A course taught partly in Russian does not meet that rule as written.

Voronezh State Medical University fees for 2026 to 2027
The fee list was approved by rector's order No. 280 of 5 May 2026, amended by order No. 459 of 2 September 2026 (Voronezh State Medical University fee list). Indian students fall under the "far abroad" band for foreign citizens. Fees are in Russian roubles, with rupee values at the Bank of Russia rate of 30 September 2026 (Bank of Russia official exchange rates).
Year | English track (with elements of English) | Russian track |
|---|---|---|
Year 1 | 430,000 roubles (about Rs. 4.9 lakh) | 400,000 roubles (about Rs. 4.5 lakh) |
Year 2 | 412,980 roubles (about Rs. 4.7 lakh) | 347,775 roubles (about Rs. 4.0 lakh) |
Year 3 | 412,980 roubles (about Rs. 4.7 lakh) | 347,775 roubles (about Rs. 4.0 lakh) |
Year 4 | 386,130 roubles (about Rs. 4.4 lakh) | 317,990 roubles (about Rs. 3.6 lakh) |
Year 5 | 386,130 roubles (about Rs. 4.4 lakh) | 317,990 roubles (about Rs. 3.6 lakh) |
Year 6 | 384,205 roubles (about Rs. 4.4 lakh) | 302,490 roubles (about Rs. 3.4 lakh) |
Six-year total | About 24.1 lakh roubles (about Rs. 27.4 lakh) | About 20.3 lakh roubles (about Rs. 23.1 lakh) |
These are tuition fees only. Hostel, food, travel, visa and medical insurance are extra. The six-year totals assume the 2026 to 2027 rates stay the same, but the university sets fees each year. MIMOS asks students to pay each semester's fee before it starts, by 1 September. A one-year preparatory course costs 86,940 roubles (about Rs. 99,000). To compare costs across Russia, see our MBBS in Russia fees 2026 guide.

NMC rules that apply to Voronezh State Medical University graduates
India's National Medical Commission (NMC) sets the rules in the FMGL Regulations 2021 (NMC FMGL Regulations 2021). A foreign degree counts in India only if all of these are met:
Course length: at least 54 months of study, finished within ten years of joining.
Internship abroad: a 12-month internship at the same foreign university.
Language: the whole course taught in English.
Licence: registration to practise medicine in the country that awarded the degree, on the same terms as its citizens.
After return: pass FMGE, then a 12-month supervised internship in India.
The NMC rules and regulations page holds the current documents. Our guide on which NMC rules apply to you explains the rules by year of joining.
What to weigh before choosing Voronezh State Medical University

Fees: about Rs. 27.4 lakh in tuition over six years on the English track at 2026 to 2027 rates, before living costs.
