MBBS in Mauritius 2026: SSR and Anna Medical College, fees in US$ and rupees, the NMC internship rule, and NBEMS FMGE pass rates from 2023 to December 2025.

MBBS in Mauritius is taught at two private colleges, SSR Medical College in Belle Rive and Anna Medical College in Montagne Blanche. Both run a five-year English-medium MBBS. For Indian students, the deciding question is where the one-year internship happens, because NMC only accepts an internship done at the same college abroad.
Key Takeaways
Two colleges. SSR Medical College and Anna Medical College are both listed on WDOMS, the World Directory of Medical Schools (SSR entry, Anna entry).
Course length. Both colleges teach MBBS over five years in ten semesters, followed by a one-year rotating internship (SSR course page).
Internship rule. NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require the 12-month internship at the same foreign institution. SSR Medical College states its Indian students now do this in Mauritian government hospitals.
Fees. SSR Medical College lists tuition of US$ 8,000 a year for the September 2026 batch, or US$ 40,000 for five years (approximately Rs. 38.4 lakh, September 2026), plus a one-time US$ 5,000 registration fee (SSR fee page).
FMGE results. In the December 2025 FMGE, 81 of 189 Mauritius graduates passed. That is 42.86 per cent, against 23.94 per cent nationally (NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025).

SSR Medical College, Mauritius
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College, known as SSR Medical College, is run by the Indian Ocean Medical Institute Trust. Its campus is in Belle Rive. WDOMS records that teaching began in 2002 and that the University of Mauritius awards the MBBS degree (WDOMS entry for SSR Medical College). The college takes two intakes a year, in August and February (SSR course page).
Anna Medical College, Mauritius
Anna Medical College teaches pre-clinical and para-clinical subjects on its Montagne Blanche campus. Clinical training takes place at Flacq Hospital, a government general hospital serving about 1.7 lakh people in the east of Mauritius (Anna Medical College hospital page). The University of Technology, Mauritius awards the degree. WDOMS records that teaching began in 2012 (WDOMS entry for Anna Medical College).
University of Mauritius Doctor of Medicine
The University of Mauritius Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences lists a six-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme for 2026/2027. Its code is MH331 (University of Mauritius undergraduate programmes). It is a separate programme from the MBBS taught at SSR Medical College.

Is MBBS in Mauritius valid in India under NMC rules?
An MBBS from Mauritius can lead to registration in India if the course meets every condition in NMC's FMGL Regulations, 2021. NMC is the National Medical Commission, India's medical regulator. These rules apply to students who joined a foreign course on or after 18 November 2021. The full rules are explained in our guide to which NMC rules apply to you.
NMC condition (FMGL 2021) | How MBBS in Mauritius compares |
|---|---|
Course of at least 54 months | Both colleges teach 5 years, which is 60 months |
12-month internship at the same foreign institution | Depends on the college's current internship arrangement (see next section) |
Medium of instruction is English | Both colleges teach in English (WDOMS) |
Registration or licence in the country that awards the degree | Registration with the Medical Council of Mauritius |
No part of training done in India or a third country | Clinical training at Mauritian hospitals |
Course completed within 10 years of joining | Applies to every student |
Recognition is decided college by college, not by country. The listing that matters is WDOMS. The World Health Organization does not approve or accredit medical schools. Our guide on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition shows how to read an entry.
Where is the internship done for MBBS in Mauritius?
This is the most important question for any Indian family. Under FMGL 2021, an internship done in India does not count. It must be 12 months, at the same college abroad, in the country that awards the degree.
SSR Medical College states that Mauritius agreed to arrange internships for Indian students in government hospitals. This followed the NMC notification of 18 November 2021. The Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed it in a letter dated 19 May 2022. The college also states that the Medical Council Act of Mauritius was amended to allow this (Medical Council of Mauritius letter dated 10 November 2023) (SSR course page).
Anna Medical College's academics page says a compulsory rotating internship follows the five-year course. It adds that foreign students do this internship in their home country (Anna Medical College academics page). For an Indian student who joined on or after 18 November 2021, an internship done in India would not meet FMGL 2021. Before paying any fee, ask Anna Medical College in writing where your 12-month internship will be done.
Two High Court cases on this internship rule are being heard in 2026, and no court has put the rule on hold. Our update on the internship abroad rule in court tracks both cases.
