The MD itself is four years. The school lists its Doctor of Medicine as a four-year programme, with clinical rotations in the fourth year (Doctor of Medicine programme page).

What is AMA School of Medicine?
AMA School of Medicine, often shortened to AMASOM, is the medical school of the AMA Education System, a private Philippine education group. It teaches one programme, the Doctor of Medicine. Families usually call it "MBBS in the Philippines", but the degree on the certificate is an MD (AMA School of Medicine about page).
The school accepts international students. Its foreign students page says most students on its special pre-med route come from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and some African countries (AMA School of Medicine foreign students page). For the wider picture, see our AMA School of Medicine university page and our MBBS in the Philippines country guide.

How do Indian students get into AMA School of Medicine?
Indian students do not enter the MD straight after Class 12. The Philippine MD is a graduate-entry degree. The school's standard rule asks for a four-year bachelor's degree in science or the arts (AMA School of Medicine admission requirements).
For Indian students coming from the K-12 system, AMA School of Medicine runs a one-year-plus BS Psychology pre-med programme. It gives credit for subjects such as Biology, Physics and Chemistry. After it, the student must pass the NMAT and meet the eligibility rules of CHED, the Commission on Higher Education, which regulates Philippine universities (AMA School of Medicine foreign students page).

AMA School of Medicine MD programme and clinical training
The Doctor of Medicine at AMA School of Medicine runs for four years. The school describes a hybrid curriculum. Basic sciences are taught through case-based scenarios, and clinical subjects through problem-based learning in small groups. Organ-based modules start in the first year (Doctor of Medicine programme page).
Clinical training happens in public hospitals. Pasay City General Hospital is the base hospital for the Makati campus. Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center is the base hospital for the Baguio campus (AMA School of Medicine partners page).
Year of the MD | What the school lists |
|---|---|
First year | Organ-based modules begin, with anatomy dissection |
Second year | Organ-based modules continue |
Third year | Organ-based modules continue, clinical cases increase |
Fourth year | Clinical rotations in real hospital settings |
Does the AMA School of Medicine MD meet NMC rules?
NMC, the National Medical Commission, is India's medical regulator. Its Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 decide who can work as a doctor in India after studying abroad. They apply to every student who joined a foreign course after 18 November 2021 (NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (PDF)).
NMC rule (regulation 4) | What it means for an AMA School of Medicine student |
|---|---|
Course of at least 54 months | The medical degree course itself must last at least four and a half years |
12-month internship in the same foreign institution | The internship must be done at the same school that awards the degree |
Teaching in English | The whole degree must be taught in English |
Licence to practise in the country of study, at par with citizens | The graduate must be registered, or able to register, as a doctor in the Philippines on the same terms as a Filipino doctor |
12-month supervised internship in India | Done after passing FMGE, the licensing exam for foreign graduates |
Whole course completed within 10 years | Counted from the date of joining the course |
This is the part of the decision that matters most. AMA School of Medicine lists its MD as four years, which is 48 months. The pre-med programme is a separate programme that comes before it. A family should get the school to state in writing how its MD, internship and licence route meet each line of the table above before paying any fees.
For how to read these rules against your own start date, see our guide on which NMC rules apply to you and our explainer on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition. The current NMC documents are listed on the NMC rules and regulations page.

Conclusion: is AMA School of Medicine right for you?
AMA School of Medicine is a private Makati medical school that sends several hundred graduates to each FMGE session and trains them in public base hospitals. Its FMGE results have held at around 18% since 2024, close to the Philippine average and below the national figure. The deciding question is the NMC rule set. The MD is four years, and the Indian licence depends on course length, internship and a Philippine licence at par with citizens. Settle those points in writing before committing.
