MCC Special Stray Vacancy Round 2026: Dates, Rules, Seats
2 Nov 2026
16 min read
MCC has added a special stray vacancy round for MBBS seats left empty after the stray round. Registration 2 to 4 November 2026, result 7 November, reporting by 16 November. Who is eligible, what it costs and what to carry.

The MCC special stray vacancy round 2026 is an extra online round for MBBS seats still empty after the stray vacancy round. Registration and payment open on 2 November 2026 and close at 3:00 PM on 4 November, the result comes on 7 November, and allotted candidates report to the college between 7 and 16 November 2026.
Key takeaways
The DGHS notice of 30 October 2026 adds a special stray vacancy round for MBBS, run together with a fifth round for BDS and B.Sc Nursing seats. Both run on the same dates: 2 to 16 November 2026.
The round exists because seats allotted in earlier rounds were not joined. The October stray vacancy round itself opened with 3,426 MBBS seats on MCC's clear vacancy list, around 2,200 of them in Deemed Universities.
The 2026 notice gives only the schedule. The rules come from the MCC UG counselling 2026 information bulletin and, for the special round itself, last year's precedent: anyone not holding a seat in All India Quota or state counselling could take part.
Fresh choice filling is compulsory, the deposit of a candidate who does not join an allotted seat is forfeited, and joining is physical, with original documents, by 5:00 PM server time on 16 November 2026.
Candidates who hold a seat anywhere, or who were allotted a seat in Round 3 or the stray round and did not report, are out of this round.
What is the MCC special stray vacancy round 2026?
The special stray vacancy round is a fifth MCC round for the 2026 NEET UG counselling year. The Medical Counselling Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services normally runs four rounds for All India Quota, Deemed and Central University, AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC and ESIC seats: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and the stray vacancy round. The MCC UG counselling 2026 information bulletin describes the stray vacancy round as the final one.
The stray vacancy round finished with its result on 19 October 2026 and reporting up to 26 October 2026, after the MCC notice of 14 October 2026 extending the stray round schedule. Some allotted candidates did not join, so MBBS seats were empty again. The DGHS schedule for the special stray vacancy round, generated on 30 October 2026, opens one more window so those seats are filled before the academic year moves on.
For a family, this is a second chance that did not exist a week ago. If you qualified NEET UG 2026, are not holding any seat and have your originals ready, the next four days matter more than any round since Round 1. Our earlier guide to the NEET UG 2026 stray vacancy round explains how the October round worked; this post covers only what is new.
What are the MCC special stray vacancy round 2026 dates?
Every clock time below is MCC server time, which is the only time that counts on the portal.
Stage | Dates | Cut off |
|---|---|---|
Registration and payment | 2 to 4 November 2026 | Registration up to 3:00 PM on 4 November; payment from 10:00 AM on 2 November to 6:00 PM on 4 November |
Choice filling | 2 to 5 November 2026 | Up to 11:00 AM on 5 November |
Choice locking | 4 to 5 November 2026 | From 4:00 PM on 4 November to 11:00 AM on 5 November |
Processing of seat allotment | 5 to 6 November 2026 | No candidate action |
Result | 7 November 2026 | Published on mcc.nic.in |
Reporting at the allotted college | 7 to 16 November 2026 | Up to 5:00 PM on 16 November |
The same notice sets a sixth round for BDS and B.Sc Nursing seats only: registration and payment 17 to 19 November (registration up to 3:00 PM on 18 November, payment up to 6:00 PM on 19 November), choice filling up to 9:00 AM on 19 November, result 20 November, and reporting 21 to 28 November 2026. There is no sixth round for MBBS in the notice.
Two gaps are tight. Choice filling closes at 11:00 AM on 5 November, which is a Thursday morning. Locking opens at 4:00 PM on 4 November, so the practical plan is to finish your list on 3 November and lock on the evening of 4 November.

How does the special round fit into NEET UG 2026 counselling?
MCC round | Result | Last date of joining |
|---|---|---|
Round 3 | 1 October 2026 | 9 October 2026 |
Stray vacancy round (extended) | 19 October 2026 | 26 October 2026 |
Special stray vacancy round | 7 November 2026 | 16 November 2026 |
The MCC notice of 11 October 2026 lists the Round 3 candidates who did not report and states that they cannot claim those seats now. The 272 page list is the reason seats fell through to the stray round, and then to this one.
Who is eligible for the MCC special stray vacancy round 2026?
The 30 October 2026 notice is a schedule only. It does not add new eligibility rules, so two documents decide who can take part.
First, the MCC UG counselling 2026 information bulletin, question 29 of its FAQ, says three groups are not eligible for a stray vacancy round: candidates who did not register for it, candidates who have joined or are holding any seat when the round runs, and candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 3 and did not report. The bulletin adds that a candidate allotted a seat in the stray round who does not join loses the security deposit and is not eligible for further rounds. That removes anyone who skipped a seat allotted on 19 October.
Second, the precedent. When MCC ran the same kind of round last year, its notice of 17 December 2025 on the special stray vacancy round of UG counselling 2025 set out the rule position in five lines:
Candidates not holding any seat from earlier rounds of All India Quota or state quota were eligible, whatever their NEET rank.
Candidates holding any seat, MBBS, BDS or B.Sc Nursing, in All India Quota or state quota were not eligible.
Fresh choice filling was compulsory, and every choice submitted earlier was treated as null and void.
The refundable security deposit of anyone who did not join an allotted seat was forfeited.
Allotted candidates had to report physically with original documents, and the allotment list was shared with the states so the same candidates were barred from the state special stray round.
Last year's candidates also had to accept an undertaking at choice filling, confirming that they were not holding any seat and that they would join whatever seat they were allotted. Expect the 2026 portal to ask for the same.
So the clean case is simple. You qualified NEET UG 2026, you registered for MCC counselling at some point, you were never allotted a seat, or you resigned a Round 1 or Round 2 seat within the rules, and you are not sitting on a state quota seat. You are in.
Who cannot apply for the special stray vacancy round?
Anyone holding an MBBS, BDS or B.Sc Nursing seat from any MCC or state round. MCC shares joined candidate data with the states, and the MCC notice of 10 October 2026 on weeding out joined All India Quota candidates shows how firmly that filter is applied.
Anyone allotted a seat in Round 3 or the stray vacancy round who did not report. The bulletin treats non reporting after Round 3 as exit with forfeiture of the deposit and elimination from later rounds.
Anyone who misses the 3:00 PM cut off on 4 November 2026. MCC does not allot any seat manually or on nomination.
Candidates with a Round 3 or stray round seat who hoped to upgrade. Resignation is not allowed after Round 3, so there is nothing to upgrade from.

How many MBBS seats are in the special stray vacancy round?
MCC publishes a clear vacancy list on the UG counselling page before each round, and the list for this round had not been posted when this guide was written on the afternoon of 2 November 2026. The scale of the previous list tells you what to expect. The clear vacancy list for the October stray vacancy round ran to 64 pages and carried 3,426 MBBS seats, 499 BDS seats and 143 B.Sc Nursing seats. Around 2,200 of the MBBS seats were in Deemed Universities and around 1,150 in All India Quota government and private colleges, with the rest at ESIC, AIIMS and Central University institutes.
Whatever is left now is a fraction of that, and most of it will again be self financed Deemed University seats, where the annual fee is several times that of a government college. Government seats appear in ones and twos. Check the clear vacancy list the moment it appears on the MCC UG medical counselling page, sort it by state and quota, and build your choice list only from seats you can actually pay for.
How to register for the MCC special stray vacancy round 2026
Open the UG medical counselling page on mcc.nic.in and click the candidate login for UG counselling 2026. Use the NEET UG 2026 roll number and the password you set earlier in the year.
Complete registration before 3:00 PM on 4 November 2026. If the portal asks for the registration fee and the security deposit, pay from the candidate's own card or bank account, because MCC refunds the deposit only to the account it came from.
Download the clear vacancy list for the special round and mark every seat you would genuinely join. Treat the list as a contract, not a wish list.
Fill choices from 2 November and keep saving. Choice filling closes at 11:00 AM on 5 November 2026.
Lock your choices between 4:00 PM on 4 November and 11:00 AM on 5 November. Unlocked choices are locked automatically at the deadline in MCC rounds, but a deliberate lock avoids surprises.
Check the result on 7 November 2026 and download the allotment letter from the portal.
Report physically at the allotted college with original documents by 5:00 PM on 16 November 2026 and complete admission on the institute's MCC portal.
What does the special stray vacancy round cost?
The fee structure is set in the MCC UG counselling 2026 information bulletin and did not change for the later rounds.
Seat type | Registration fee, non refundable | Security deposit, refundable | Total at registration |
|---|---|---|---|
All India Quota, Central Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER, AFMC, ESIC and B.Sc Nursing, UR and EWS | Rs. 1,000 | Rs. 10,000 | Rs. 11,000 |
Same seats, SC, ST, OBC and PwD | Rs. 500 | Rs. 5,000 | Rs. 5,500 |
Deemed Universities, all categories | Rs. 5,000 | Rs. 2,00,000 | Rs. 2,05,000 |
A candidate who wants both government and Deemed University seats pays only the higher Deemed amount. The deposit is refunded after MCC notifies the completion of counselling, to the same account, within about 30 days of that notification. It is forfeited if you are allotted a seat in this round and do not join.

What documents do you need to join the allotted seat?
The bulletin's FAQ lists the originals, with attested photocopies, that every allotted candidate carries to the college:
Allotment letter issued by MCC for the special stray vacancy round.
NEET UG 2026 admit card and the NTA result or rank letter.
Class 10 certificate, and a date of birth certificate if the Class 10 certificate does not show the date of birth.
Class 12 certificate and marks sheet.
Eight passport size photographs, the same as the one on the application form.
Proof of identity: Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence or passport.
Where claimed, the SC, ST, OBC NCL or EWS certificate in the prescribed format, and the MCC Medical Assessment Board certificate for PwD candidates. Our guide to the category certificate for NEET counselling shows the formats colleges accept.
Candidates without originals are not admitted. If your originals are lying with another institute from an earlier admission, collect them before 7 November, not after the result.
How is the special round different from the October stray round?
Point | Stray vacancy round, October 2026 | Special stray vacancy round, November 2026 |
|---|---|---|
Basis | Written into the information bulletin as the final round | Added by a DGHS schedule of 30 October 2026 |
Seats | Everything unfilled after Round 3 | Only seats not joined after the stray round |
Courses | MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing | MBBS, with a parallel fifth round for BDS and B.Sc Nursing |
Choice filling | Fresh | Fresh, with an undertaking expected as in 2025 |
Resignation | Not allowed | Not allowed |
Non joining | Deposit forfeited, no further rounds | Deposit forfeited, and no MCC round follows for MBBS |
What if something goes wrong?
If you miss the 4 November deadline, the All India Quota route for 2026 is closed for you. Watch your state counselling authority for its own special stray round, which usually follows MCC's by a few days.
If you are allotted a seat and the fee is beyond you, the deposit is gone and nothing else follows. This is why the choice list must contain only seats the family can pay for across all years.
If you reported but the college raises a document query, MCC's helpline on the UG page and the college's admission office are the two places to call on the same day. Reporting ends at 5:00 PM on 16 November and is not extended for individual cases.
If this round gives you nothing, the realistic routes are a repeat attempt at NEET UG 2027, for which NEETsheet has a NEET 2027 dropper strategy after the 2026 result, or an MBBS seat abroad for the 2027 intake. Our guide to MBBS in Europe after NEET Round 3 walks through which European universities still accept applications and what they cost. For the Indian route, the futureMBBS college predictor shows which colleges your 2026 rank reached, which is a useful reality check before deciding on a drop year.

A worked example
For example, take Aarav. He scored 512 in NEET UG 2026, registered for MCC Round 1, and was not allotted a government seat in Rounds 1, 2 or 3. He did not register for the October stray round because his family had not decided on a Deemed University budget.
On 2 November his family agrees on a ceiling of Rs. 18 lakh a year. He logs in to the MCC portal the same evening, registers for the special stray vacancy round and pays Rs. 2,05,000 so that Deemed University seats are open to him.
On 3 November he downloads the clear vacancy list, removes every college above his ceiling and every college in cities his parents will not accept, and fills 23 choices in order. He locks them at 6:00 PM on 4 November.
On 7 November he is allotted his ninth choice. He reports on 10 November with his originals and eight photographs, pays the first year fee, and his admission is recorded on the MCC portal before the 16 November cut off.
Three things to notice from Aarav's case. He was eligible because he never held a seat, not because of his score. The Rs. 2,00,000 deposit was the price of entering the Deemed list, and it comes back only because he joined. And the list of 23 colleges was built from the clear vacancy list, not from memory of earlier rounds.
Conclusion
The MCC special stray vacancy round 2026 is short, strict and final. Register by 3:00 PM on 4 November, fill choices by 11:00 AM on 5 November, and be ready to join by 16 November 2026. Fill only seats you will take, because the deposit and the year both depend on it.
