MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026 runs from 6 to 14 November with reporting to 23 November. Who can register, how upgradation and Float work, fees, documents and what leaving a seat now costs.

MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026 opens for registration on 6 November 2026 and closes at 12 noon on 11 November, with choice filling from 7 to 12 November and the result on 14 November 2026. Round 2 is both a fresh allotment round and the upgradation round, and a Round 2 seat can only be left with forfeiture of the security deposit.
Key takeaways for MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026
Registration and fee payment run from 6 November to 12 noon on 11 November 2026 on the MCC PG medical counselling page. Payment stays open until 3 pm on 11 November.
Choice filling runs from 7 November to 10 am on 12 November. Choices lock automatically at 10 am on 12 November if you have not locked them yourself.

The PG academic session starts on 20 November 2026, so a Round 2 seat is a late start of about a week.
What is the MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026 schedule?
These dates come from the PG All India Quota schedule 2026 issued by the DGHS on 7 October 2026. All times are MCC server time, and Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays count as working days.

The same PDF gives the full calendar around Round 2. Round 1 reporting closes on 2 November. How do the AIQ rounds line up with state counselling in 2026?
Most candidates sit in both the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling and their home state counselling at the same time. The combined AIQ and state counselling schedule for PG 2026 shows how the two calendars interlock. The pattern is simple: each state round starts after the matching AIQ round closes, so a candidate always knows the AIQ outcome before the state choice window shuts.
Round | AIQ, deemed and central (MCC) | Last date to join the AIQ seat | State quota (state authorities) | Last date to join the state seat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Round 1 | 12 to 24 October | 2 November | 21 October to 2 November | 10 November |
Round 2 | 6 to 14 November | 23 November | 14 to 23 November | 30 November |
Round 3 | 26 November to 4 December | 12 December | 4 to 12 December | 18 December |
Stray vacancy | 16 to 24 December | 31 December | 22 to 25 December | 31 December |
This matters for Round 2 in one specific way. State Round 2 registration opens on 14 November, the same day the MCC Round 2 result comes out. A candidate who gets a good AIQ seat on 14 November can decide whether to bother with the state round at all. A candidate who gets nothing in AIQ Round 2 still has the full state window. Several states run their own earlier calendars for Round 1, so always read the state notice as well as this table.

What does MCC NEET PG Round 2 cover?
MCC runs the counselling for the 50 per cent All India Quota seats in state government medical colleges, seats in central institutes and central universities, deemed universities and the DNB seats under the National Board, for MD, MS and DNB courses. The final All India Quota, deemed, central internal quota and DNB seat matrices for 2026 were published on the MCC page on 15 October 2026. The MCC PG counselling information bulletin 2026 describes four AIQ rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray vacancy round. The remaining 50 per cent state quota seats and all private seats are filled by the state authorities on the state calendar shown above. If you want the speciality-wise seat picture before you fill choices, the PG seat matrix 2026-27 by speciality breaks down the MD and MS seats.
Who is eligible for MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026?
The information bulletin splits Round 2 candidates into five groups. Find yours, because the steps differ.
Registered in Round 1 but not allotted a seat. You take part automatically. No new registration, no new fee. You only fill and lock fresh choices.
Allotted in Round 1 but seat cancelled at document verification because your category or PwD status changed. You remain eligible for Round 2 in the changed category.
Joined your Round 1 seat and said "Yes" to upgradation. You are a Float candidate and can be upgraded in Round 2. Your Round 1 seat stays yours unless Round 2 gives you a higher choice.
Allotted in Round 1 and used Free Exit by not reporting. You log in with your Round 1 registration and fill fresh choices. No fresh fee.
Did not register in Round 1 at all. You register fresh between 6 and 11 November, pay the registration fee and security deposit, and go straight into Round 2.
Who cannot take part in Round 2
A candidate who joined a Round 1 seat as Freeze, or who joined and did not give "Yes" for upgradation, is out of Round 2. The bulletin's answer to question 14 says plainly that a candidate who does not give willingness for upgradation in Round 2 as "Yes" will not be considered eligible for Round 2. Candidates below the NEET PG 2026 cut-off are not in the counselling at all; the cut-off and score details are in our NEET PG 2026 result explainer.
How do you register for MCC NEET PG Round 2 2026?
Every step below exists on the MCC portal. The information bulletin and the candidate user guide on the MCC page describe them.
Open the MCC PG counselling page between 6 and 11 November and click the PG Medical Counselling registration link.
If you are a fresh candidate, register with your NEET PG 2026 roll number, create a password and fill the registration form. Pay the registration fee and the security deposit from your own account by the 11 November deadline. If you registered in Round 1, simply log in.
Check the Round 2 seat matrix, which opens with choice filling on 7 November. Round 2 shows two kinds of seats, explained in the seat terms section below.
Fill your choices from 7 November. Fresh choice filling is compulsory in every round; Round 1 choices do not carry over.
Lock your choices between 4 pm on 11 November and 10 am on 12 November. If you do not lock, the system locks your saved choices at 10 am on 12 November.
Check the result on 14 November, download the allotment letter and read it for the Freeze or Float decision below.
Report to the allotted institute between 16 and 23 November with the original documents listed further down. Float candidates who are upgrading from a Round 1 seat first take an online relieving letter from the Round 1 institute, then join the Round 2 seat.

What are the registration fee and security deposit for NEET PG Round 2?
Fees are the same in every round and are paid only once. Question 7 of the bulletin sets them out.
Scheme | Registration fee, UR and EWS (non refundable) | Registration fee, SC, ST, OBC and PwD (non refundable) | Security deposit, UR and EWS (refundable) | Security deposit, SC, ST, OBC and PwD (refundable) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
All India Quota, central and DNB | Rs 1,000 | Rs 500 | Rs 25,000 | Rs 10,000 |
Deemed universities | Rs 5,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 2,00,000 | Rs 2,00,000 |
A candidate who wants both AIQ and deemed seats pays only the higher amount, Rs 5,000 plus Rs 2 lakh, and that single payment covers both. The deposit is refunded only after all rounds finish. MCC tells the financial custodian to start refunds within 15 days of counselling ending and complete them within 30 days, to the same card or account the money came from, without interest. A duplicate payment is refunded within 30 days of the registration closing, less Rs 500 or half the fee, whichever is smaller. Our short web story on NEET PG counselling fees and deposits has the same figures in a phone-friendly format.
Which documents are required for Round 2 reporting?
Carry originals and attested photocopies. The list is in section 12.2 of the bulletin.
MCC allotment letter for Round 2, printed from your login.
NBEMS admit card and NBEMS result or rank letter for NEET PG 2026.
Mark sheets of the first, second and third professional MBBS examinations.
MBBS degree or provisional degree certificate.
Internship completion certificate, or a certificate that the internship will be completed by 30 September 2026.
Permanent or provisional registration from a State Medical Council or NMC.
Class 10 certificate or birth certificate as proof of age.
Photo identity: driving licence, voter ID, passport or Aadhaar.
If claimed: SC, ST, EWS or OBC non creamy layer certificate in the prescribed format, in English or Hindi, with a translation certified by a gazetted officer if the original is in another language.
If claimed: PwD eligibility certificate from one of the MCC designated medical boards. The appeal and assessment process is covered in our NEET PG 2026 PwD assessment guide.
If claimed: NRI or OCI documents exactly as uploaded. The MCC corrigendum of 14 October 2026 also asks Category I and Category IV NRI claimants for a valid passport of the parent, real brother, real sister or sponsor.
Float candidates upload these documents once, online, within two to three days of the result. The upload is a one time upload for all rounds, and the institute verifies it online. A Freeze candidate must visit the institute in person with the same documents.
What are clear cut and virtual vacancies in the Round 2 seat matrix?
Round 1 showed only clear cut vacancies. Round 2 shows two categories, defined in clauses 2.22 and 2.23 of the bulletin.
Clear cut vacancies are, in the bulletin's words, the seats which have not been allotted in Round 1. These are open to everyone in Round 2.
Virtual vacancies are seats currently held by Round 1 candidates who said "Yes" to upgradation. A virtual vacancy is allotted to you only if the Round 1 holder actually moves to a better seat in Round 2. If the holder is not upgraded, the seat stays with them and you are not allotted it.
The practical rule is to fill more choices than you think you need. A long list that includes virtual vacancies gives the algorithm more ways to place you, because each virtual vacancy that opens up becomes a real seat during processing on 12 and 13 November.

How do Freeze, Float and upgradation work in NEET PG Round 2?
Chapter 3 of the 2026 bulletin sets out the two options you choose after an allotment.
Freeze means you accept the seat and will not be upgraded. You must join physically. You are out of all later rounds.
Float means you want to be upgraded. You give willingness online, upload your documents for online verification by the institute, and do not need to visit the institute physically. You keep your current seat until a higher choice is allotted.
Two bulletin answers decide most Round 2 upgradation doubts. Question 19 says a Round 1 joinee who opted for upgradation but now wants to keep the Round 1 seat simply does not fill any fresh choices for Round 2, and the earlier seat is retained. Question 18 says that if you are upgraded, the Round 1 seat is cancelled automatically and immediately. You have no claim on it afterwards, and if you then fail to join the Round 2 seat the security deposit is forfeited. A freshly allotted Round 2 candidate can again choose Float and try for Round 3, after uploading documents online.
Worked example: a Float candidate in Round 2
A Float candidate who is upgraded in Round 2 loses her old seat straight away and cannot get it back. If she does not join the new seat, she forfeits her Rs 25,000 deposit and pays fresh fees for Round 3. To keep her current seat, she fills no Round 2 choices.
Meet the example candidate
She is an unreserved (UR) candidate. In Round 1 she is allotted MD Paediatrics at a state government college under the All India Quota (AIQ). She joins and gives “Yes” for upgradation. That makes her a Float candidate, which means she keeps her seat while she competes for a better one. The dates below are example dates.
Her journey, step by step
Date | What happens | What it means for her |
|---|---|---|
24 October | Allotted MD Paediatrics in Round 1 | She has a seat |
By 2 November | Joins the state government college and gives “Yes” for upgradation | She is now a Float candidate |
7 November | Fills ten choices, all seats she prefers to Paediatrics, including MD Radiodiagnosis and MD Dermatology at three institutes | She competes only for better seats |
14 November | Allotted MD Dermatology at a central institute from a virtual vacancy | Her Paediatrics seat is cancelled at this moment |
After 14 November | Takes the online relieving letter | She is cleared to leave her old college |
By 23 November | Reports to the central institute and joins | The upgrade is complete |
After all rounds end | Her Rs 25,000 deposit returns to her account | MCC holds the money until then |
A virtual vacancy is a seat that becomes free because another candidate moved up to a better seat in the same round. That is how a Round 2 seat can open up for her.
What if things had gone differently?
If she | Then |
|---|---|
Changed her mind on 14 November and wanted Paediatrics back | She could not have it. The seat was cancelled the moment Dermatology was allotted |
Did not join the central institute | She loses the Rs 25,000 deposit and pays fresh fees to register for Round 3 |
Wanted to keep Paediatrics | She should have filled no Round 2 choices at all |
The rule that catches candidates out
Choice filling is a commitment. Every choice a Float candidate locks is a seat she is willing to move to. If one of them is allotted, the move happens automatically, and the old seat is gone. So she should lock only choices she would truly accept over her current seat.
How does NEET PG Round 2 differ from Round 1?
Rule | Round 1 | Round 2 |
|---|---|---|
Fresh registration | Open to all | Only for those who did not register in Round 1 |
Seat matrix | Clear cut vacancies only | Clear cut plus virtual vacancies |
Leaving the seat | Free Exit by not reporting, no forfeiture | Exit with forfeiture of security deposit |
Upgradation | Choose Float to be upgraded in Round 2 | Choose Float to be upgraded in Round 3 |
Effect on earlier seat | Not applicable | Round 1 seat cancelled automatically if upgraded |

What happens after the Round 2 result if you report, resign or do not join?
Reporting runs from 16 to 23 November 2026. The institute verifies your documents, and MCC receives the joined candidates' data on 24 November. The bulletin's flowchart puts it in four words: Round 1, free exit; Round 2, with forfeiture. A Freeze candidate resigns by visiting the institute. A Float candidate resigns online through the Resignation or Surrender option in the candidate login. Either way the security deposit is forfeited, and question 46 says a Round 2 allottee who does not report may exit with forfeiture.
Losing the deposit does not end your counselling. Question 36 says a candidate who exits with forfeiture in Round 2 can join Round 3, but with fresh payment of fees, and Round 3 fresh registration is open to anyone who resigned from Round 2. Candidates who hold a Round 1 or Round 2 seat and did not give willingness for Round 3 upgradation are not eligible for Round 3 (question 37). And once Round 3 allots a seat, the bulletin states that candidates cannot resign or exit Round 3 allotted seats.
The deposit is also forfeited if an admission is cancelled for wrong information in the form or failure to produce documents, under clause 2.10. If you want the same rules for Round 1 reporting, our NEET PG allotment 2026 reporting guide covers free exit and upgradation in that round.
What comes after Round 2: Round 3 and the stray vacancy round?
Round 3 registration runs from 26 November to 12 noon on 1 December, choice filling from 27 November to 10 am on 2 December, with the result on 4 December and reporting from 5 to 12 December. The online stray vacancy round opens registration on 16 December, declares its result on 24 December, and reporting closes on 31 December 2026. A Round 2 joinee who chose Float is carried into Round 3 for upgradation. A Round 2 joinee who chose Freeze is finished. A candidate with no seat after Round 2 goes into Round 3 without fresh registration, as long as the Round 2 registration was paid in full.
What if NEET PG Round 2 does not give you a seat?
You still have Round 3 on 4 December, the stray round on 24 December, and the parallel state rounds through December. Many candidates also compare an MD or MS seat with a DNB seat, since DNB seats sit in the same MCC counselling and lead to the same NBEMS qualification. Our guides on DNB after MBBS and on MD vs MS vs DNB vs diploma help you decide what to put higher in the Round 3 list. If the difference between MD and MS itself is the question, the NEETsheet explainer on the difference between MD and MS is a short read, and its summary of doctor salaries in India helps weigh a speciality against a branch you would accept sooner. Resident pay during the course is covered in our PG resident stipend by state post.
