MBBS in Lithuania 2026: LSMU Fees, NEET Exemption, FMGE

MBBS in Lithuania means the six-year English-taught Medicine programme at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) in Kaunas. LSMU is futureMBBS's partner there. Tuition for 2026/2027 is EUR 12,800 a year in years one to three and EUR 13,300 in years four to six. A NEET UG score of 650 or more exempts you from LSMU's entrance test.

Key Takeaways

  • Programme: Medicine at LSMU runs for 6 years (360 ECTS credits) in English and awards an MSc in Health Sciences plus the professional qualification of Medical Doctor.

  • Fees: EUR 12,800 a year for years one to three and EUR 13,300 a year for years four to six, so about EUR 78,300 (around Rs. 85 lakh) in tuition across six years.

  • Entry: an online test of 30 Biology and 30 Chemistry questions in 90 minutes, plus an interview. Indian applicants with a NEET UG score of 650 or more are exempt from the test.

  • English: IELTS above 5.5, TOEFL iBT 4.0, PTE Academic 55 to 67, Duolingo 95, or another B1-level certificate. Without one, you sit LSMU's own English test.

  • FMGE record: NBEMS data show 13 LSMU graduates sat FMGE between 2023 and 2025, and 4 passed.

Why Choose MBBS in Lithuania?

Lithuania is a European Union member, so a medical degree from LSMU is earned inside the EU system. LSMU states on its official Medicine programme page that its diploma is recognised in the EU, the USA, Israel and other countries.

The university gives three numbers that matter to a family. International students make up 28% of LSMU's student body. The university teaches 20 programmes in English. Clinical courses run in small groups of up to 10 students.

Students train at the Hospital of LSMU Kaunas Clinics, which LSMU describes as the largest clinical hospital in the Baltic States. LSMU also lists 32 non-university hospitals across Lithuania accredited for internship and clinical practice. For a wider picture of the country, see our MBBS in Lithuania country page.

In the upper years, LSMU asks for the fee in two parts. The autumn semester is paid before 25 October and the spring semester before 20 March. Repeating a course for academic reasons costs extra. The tuition fee covers library, laboratory and clinic use, lectures, practical classes, tutorials and examinations. Living costs, hostel rent, travel and visa fees are separate. Our six-year cost of MBBS in Europe guide shows how to budget for those.

Who Is Eligible for MBBS in Lithuania at LSMU?

LSMU admits international students to the English programme if they hold a school-leaving certificate and pass the entrance test. The university asks for good knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. The rules are set out in LSMU's Rules for Admitting Students in 2026 (PDF).

  • School certificate: a Class 12 certificate approved by the government authority, in English or with an authorised English translation.

LSMU Entrance Test for MBBS in Lithuania

The LSMU entrance test is held online. After your documents are checked, an admission officer emails you a registration link and you choose a test date. The test has two parts:

  • Written test: 30 Biology and 30 Chemistry multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes in total.

LSMU publishes Biology and Chemistry topic lists, recommended textbooks and a sample test on the same page. Our guide to MBBS entrance exams in Europe compares this test with others.

Documents Needed for MBBS in Lithuania

LSMU lists the documents below. The admission committee can ask for more.

  • Class 12 certificate: with an Apostille, because India is a member of the 1961 Hague Convention.

  • Class 12 transcript: showing Biology and Chemistry, translated into English if needed.

  • English certificate: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or another B1-level certificate.

  • Motivation letter: a short personal statement on why you want to study Medicine.

  • Passport: a copy of the data page.

  • Photograph: one passport-type photo, 3 by 4 cm.

  • Fee receipt: proof of the EUR 150 application fee.

Student Visa and Residence Permit for MBBS in Lithuania

A course longer than one year needs a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP), the card that lets a non-EU student live in Lithuania. LSMU says a TRP is usually issued for 2 years and can be renewed. Indian students can apply before travelling:

  • Online form: submitted on MIGRIS, Lithuania's migration portal.

  • Documents and biometrics: handed in at a VFS Global centre in India. India is one of 30 countries where this is possible.

  • Mediation number: issued by LSMU and needed to book the VFS appointment.

  • Decision: made only by the Migration Department of Lithuania. The card can be sent abroad, so you can arrive already holding it.

LSMU explains each step on its TRP information page. Our web story on what to do before leaving for MBBS abroad covers the rest of the pre-departure list.

Is MBBS in Lithuania Valid in India?

Yes, if the student meets the National Medical Commission (NMC) rules for foreign graduates. The NMC is India's medical regulator. Its Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (PDF) set four conditions:

  • Course length: at least 54 months of study. LSMU's programme runs 6 years.

  • Internship abroad: at least 12 months of internship at the same foreign institution.

  • Language: the degree must be taught in English. LSMU's Medicine programme is.

  • Licence abroad: registration with the body that licenses doctors in that country, on the same terms as its citizens.

After returning, a graduate must pass FMGE (the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination), the licensing exam run by NBEMS. Then comes a 12-month supervised internship in India. Our post on which NMC rules apply to you explains how these rules change by admission year.

Lithuanian Language in MBBS at LSMU

Teaching is in English, but LSMU includes Lithuanian language classes in years one to three. Patients in Kaunas hospitals speak Lithuanian, so these classes matter once clinical modules start in year four. Our guide to the local language in MBBS in Europe explains what students are expected to reach.

LSMU FMGE Pass Rate for MBBS in Lithuania Graduates

LSMU is the only Lithuanian university in the NBEMS FMGE reports for 2023 to 2025. The numbers are small, so each result moves the percentage sharply.

How futureMBBS Helps With MBBS in Lithuania

futureMBBS is run by doctors and supports students from application to graduation. For LSMU, that means checking your NEET score against the 650 exemption, preparing your Apostilled documents, and planning for the entrance test and TRP. To compare LSMU with our partners in other countries, see the MBBS in Europe page, our MBBS in Lithuania for Indian students 2026 guide, or book a free consultation.

Conclusion: Is MBBS in Lithuania Right for You?

MBBS in Lithuania at LSMU suits a student who wants an EU degree taught in English, with about Rs. 85 lakh for tuition over six years. A NEET score of 650 or more removes the entrance test. The real constraints are the Lithuanian language for clinical years and the NMC internship and licence rules. Plan for both from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions About MBBS in Lithuania

What is the fee for MBBS in Lithuania at LSMU?

LSMU charges EUR 12,800 a year for years one to three and EUR 13,300 a year for years four to six in 2026/2027. That is about EUR 78,300, or around Rs. 85 lakh at the 30 September 2026 RBI rate, for six years of tuition. Living costs and hostel rent are extra.

Is NEET required for MBBS in Lithuania?

LSMU's standard route is its own entrance test, and NEET is not on its list of required documents. A NEET UG score of 650 or more exempts an Indian applicant from that test. Indian students planning to practise in India should also read the NMC rules for foreign medical graduates before applying.

What is the LSMU entrance test pattern?

The LSMU entrance test is taken online. It has 30 Biology and 30 Chemistry multiple-choice questions, with 90 minutes for the written part. An interview takes place a few days earlier, and missing it cancels the test. LSMU publishes topic lists, textbooks and a sample test on its Medicine page.

Is an MBBS from Lithuania valid in India?

Yes, if the graduate meets the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021. These require at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same foreign university, English-medium teaching and a licence in Lithuania. The graduate must then pass FMGE and complete a 12-month supervised internship in India.

What is the FMGE pass rate for Lithuania?

NBEMS reports show 13 LSMU graduates sat FMGE across 2023, 2024 and both 2025 sessions, and 4 passed. Results by year were 1 of 4 in 2023, 2 of 5 in 2024, 1 of 3 in June 2025 and 0 of 1 in December 2025. The small numbers make each year's percentage swing widely.

What IELTS score does LSMU need for Medicine?

LSMU asks for IELTS above 5.5. It also accepts TOEFL iBT of at least 4.0, PTE Academic of 55 to 67, Duolingo 95, or another B1-level English certificate. Applicants without any of these must sit LSMU's own English test as part of admission.

When does LSMU admission open for MBBS in Lithuania?

For the 2026 intake, LSMU opened applications on 1 November 2025. Tests and interviews began on 13 January 2026. The main deadline was 6 July 2026 and the final deadline was 30 July 2026. LSMU publishes each year's calendar on its official Medicine programme page.

Do I need a visa to study MBBS in Lithuania?

Yes. A non-EU student staying more than a year needs a Temporary Residence Permit, usually issued for 2 years and renewable. Indian students apply on MIGRIS and submit documents at a VFS Global centre in India, using a mediation number from LSMU. The Migration Department of Lithuania makes the decision.
