General Medicine at Ingush State University
General Medicine is the course a future doctor joins. It is the Russian six-year medical degree, and graduates qualify as a physician. Russia does not award a degree called MBBS. The General Medicine degree is the qualification a graduate presents to NMC, the National Medical Commission, India's medical regulator.
At Ingush State University, the course is run by the Medical Institute. Its director is Khava Musaevna Akhrieva (Ingush State University structure page). About 1,350 students study General Medicine. Of these, 531 study on state funding and 819 pay fees (Ingush State University education page).
Language of teaching at Ingush State University
The university's own education page lists Russian as the language of the General Medicine course. It also publishes a separate study plan and calendar for foreign students on the same course (Ingush State University education page). The university does not list an English-medium version of General Medicine. For an Indian student, this is the single biggest point on this page, because of the NMC rule explained below.
Hospitals used for training at Ingush State University
Clinical classes take place in hospitals in Nazran, the largest city in Ingushetia (Ingush State University facilities page). The university lists these teaching bases:
Ingush Republican Clinical Hospital, Nazran: the main regional hospital of Ingushetia.
Nazran City Hospital: the city hospital of Nazran.
Republican Dermatovenerological Dispensary, Nazran: the regional clinic for skin and sexually transmitted diseases.
Psychoneurological Dispensary: the regional clinic for mental health and nerve disorders.
Patients in these hospitals speak Russian or Ingush. A student needs working Russian to take a history and examine patients.

Ingush State University fees for 2025 to 2026
The rector approved the fees in order No. 121 of 3 June 2025 (Ingush State University fee order for 2025 to 2026). The order has one fee list for Russian citizens and a separate one for foreign citizens. An Indian student pays the foreign citizen fee.
Fee list | General Medicine, per year | Approximate rupee value |
|---|---|---|
Foreign citizens | 220,000 roubles | About Rs. 2.5 lakh |
Russian citizens | 165,000 roubles | About Rs. 1.9 lakh |
Rupee values use the Bank of Russia rate of 30 September 2026, when 100 rupees equalled about 87.92 roubles (Bank of Russia official exchange rates). Over six years, the foreign citizen fee comes to about 13.2 lakh roubles, or around Rs. 15 lakh at this rate. Hostel, food, visa and travel costs are extra. Is an Ingush State University degree valid in India?
Any foreign medical degree is judged against the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021. These rules apply to every student who joined a foreign course after November 2021 (NMC FMGL Regulations 2021). All NMC rules sit on the NMC rules and regulations page.
NMC FMGL 2021 rule | What it means for an Ingush State University student |
|---|---|
Course of at least 54 months | The six-year General Medicine course meets this length |
12-month internship at the same foreign university | The internship must be done at Ingush State University itself, not in India or another country |
Medium of instruction in English | The university lists the course as taught in Russian, so it does not meet this rule as published |
Licence to practise in Russia, on the same terms as a Russian citizen | The graduate must be registered to practise in Russia |
Pass FMGE (or NExT when it starts) | The graduate sits the NBEMS screening test in India |
12-month supervised internship in India | Done after passing FMGE, after applying to NMC |
The whole course must also be finished within ten years of joining. NMC does not approve a country as a whole. Each university and each student's course is checked against these rules. Ingush State University teaches General Medicine in Russian. As published, the course does not meet the English-medium rule for practice in India. Our guide on how to check NMC and WDOMS recognition explains the listing checks. WDOMS is the World Directory of Medical Schools. FMGE results for Russian universities
FMGE, the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, is the test NBEMS (National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences) runs for doctors trained abroad. Passing it is how a foreign graduate gets registered in India. NBEMS publishes results by country and by university (NBEMS FMGE page). The Russia-wide figures below are the benchmark for any Russian university.
FMGE exam | All Russian universities | All countries |
|---|---|---|
June 2025 | 18.07% (822 of 4,550 passed) | 18.62% (6,709 of 36,037 passed) |
December 2025 | 30.94% (2,128 of 6,878 passed) | 23.94% (10,264 of 42,868 passed) |
In plain terms, about one in five Russia-trained candidates passed in June 2025, and about three in ten in December 2025. All figures come from the NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025. For a view across countries, see our FMGE pass rate by country web story and our explainer on what the FMGE exam is.
