Lincoln American University Guyana: MD Fees, NMC Check

Lincoln American University is a private medical school in Kingston, Georgetown, Guyana, that awards a 5-year MD to Indian students after Class 12. Tuition is about USD 45,000 for the full course. The school is registered in Guyana and listed on WDOMS, but it is not on the CAAM-HP register, and its course has no separate internship year.

What is Lincoln American University?

Lincoln American University School of Medicine is a private school in Kingston, a district of Georgetown, the capital of Guyana. The university gives 2016 as its founding year. Its WDOMS entry records that teaching began in 2017. WDOMS is the World Directory of Medical Schools. A listing there means a school exists and has reported its details. It is not an accreditation.

The same WDOMS entry lists an admission office in New Delhi, at Tolstoy Marg. Most applicants are Indian, and the school runs a separate 5-year track for students coming straight from Class 12. Students with a Bachelor of Science degree join a 4-year track instead (university MD programme page).

How the Lincoln American University MD programme is structured

The university splits the 5-year MD into three stages. All of them run in Guyana for Indian students who enrolled after 18 November 2021 (university clinical sciences page).

Clinical rotations at Lincoln American University

The clinical sciences page lists the rotations. The four core rotations last 12 weeks each.

The university also lists Max Healthcare in India and Manmohan Memorial Teaching Hospital in Nepal as affiliated hospitals (affiliated hospitals page). For Indian students, it describes Max Healthcare as an optional observation during vacations, not part of the course.

Does the Lincoln American University MD meet NMC rules?

An Indian who studies medicine abroad needs a licence from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to work in India. The rules are in the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 (FMGL). They apply to every student who started abroad after 18 November 2021. Here is how the programme, as the university describes it, compares.

Course length and the 12-month internship

Regulation 4(a) of the FMGL asks for a course of at least 54 months, so four and a half years. It then asks for a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, on top of the course. That makes 66 months abroad in all. Schedule I lists the subjects the internship must cover, from general medicine to obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. After that, the graduate does another 12 months of supervised internship in India.

Lincoln American University describes a 60-month programme that ends with the MD after clinical rotations. The MD programme page and the clinical sciences page do not describe a separate internship year. A family should ask the university, in writing, where and when the 12-month internship takes place.

The same-institution rule

Schedule I, clause 2(iii) of the FMGL says the entire course, training and internship must be done at the same institution. No part may be done in India or in any country other than the one that awards the degree. This rule catches many families out.

Lincoln American University says Indian students enrolled after 18 November 2021 complete all five years in Guyana, with rotations at Georgetown Public Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (clinical sciences page). That matches the rule. The same page says international students may rotate in Nepal, India or the USA if their own medical council allows it. Indian students should not take that option, and should keep any Max Healthcare observation outside their course record.

Is Lincoln American University accredited?

Lincoln American University and CAAM-HP

No. CAAM-HP, the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions, accredits medical schools for member states of the Caribbean Community, Guyana among them. Its Assessed Programs register lists every school it has assessed. Lincoln American University is not on it. Two Guyana medical schools are.

Lincoln American University and the National Accreditation Council of Guyana

The National Accreditation Council (NAC) is the Guyana government body that registers and accredits colleges. Its registration status list shows Lincoln American University Inc. registered for Pre Medical Sciences and the Doctor of Medicine, from 22 January 2026 to 21 January 2029. The NAC approved programmes list also names both programmes.

The NAC rules on the same registration page say registration gives a college legal authority to operate, and does not confer accredited status. Registration is a pre-accreditation stage.

Lincoln American University on WDOMS and the ECFMG note

The WDOMS entry (FAIMER School ID F0004722) lists a 5-year MD taught in English. It carries two sponsor notes. The ECFMG note says students and graduates from 2017 onwards can apply for ECFMG Certification, the step before a US residency. The Canada note says the degree is acceptable to Canadian medical regulators.

What does "empanelled by MCI" mean for Lincoln American University?

The university's recognitions page says it was empanelled by the Medical Council of India. The Medical Council of India (MCI) was replaced by the NMC in September 2020. It no longer exists.

The NMC does not approve foreign schools either. Its information desk for students going abroad states that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions. A degree counts in India only if the student meets every FMGL condition and then clears FMGE.

Lincoln American University FMGE results, 2023 to 2025

FMGE, the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, is the screening test a foreign graduate passes before working in India. NBEMS publishes results by country and by institution on its FMGE page. Lincoln American University appears in every report since 2023.

For Guyana as a whole, 118 graduates sat FMGE in June 2025 and 24 passed (20.34%). In December 2025, 100 sat and 14 passed (14.00%). Lincoln American University supplied more than half of those candidates both times. USMLE and PLAB after Lincoln American University

The university builds its curriculum around the USMLE, the United States licensing exam, and says students can sit Step 1 and Step 2 during the course (MD programme page). What does Lincoln American University cost?

The university publishes its fees in US dollars on its tuition and fees page. Fees are due before each semester. Rupee figures below use about Rs. 96 to the dollar (September 2026).

Tuition and rotation fees together come to about USD 53,800, or approximately Rs. 52 lakh. Living costs from Year 2 onwards are not listed on the fees page, so families should ask for them in writing. Students who want US electives pay USD 350 a week. The university also offers merit discounts to students with more than 90 per cent in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12 (university FAQ page).

Who can apply to Lincoln American University?

The university's eligibility page sets these conditions for the 5-year track.

• Age. At least 17 on or before 31 December of the admission year.

• Class 12. Passes in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Biotechnology, and English, with at least 50 per cent in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for general category students.

• NEET UG. Indian students must qualify NEET UG. The NMC has required this for anyone studying medicine abroad since 2018, and the result stays valid for three years (NMC information desk). Our post on whether NEET is required for MBBS abroad explains the rule.

Meeting the school's entry conditions does not mean the degree will meet NMC rules. The two are separate tests.

How admission to Lincoln American University works

The university's admission process page describes these steps.

1. Submit the application with high school certificates, a scanned passport and a passport photograph. The Admission Review Committee then reviews it.

2. Accept the offer within 15 days of the acceptance letter and pay 25 per cent of the fees as an advance.

3. Send original documents to the administrative office in Noida for visa processing.

4. Submit Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, a medical fitness certificate, a police clearance certificate, a sponsor letter and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Add three months of bank statements showing at least USD 7,000 (approximately Rs. 6.7 lakh).

5. Wait about one month for the Guyana student visa, then pay the remaining 75 per cent of the fees, plus food, accommodation and air tickets.

6. Fly to Guyana on the batch date set by the university's head office, which books tickets for Indian students.

Questions to put to Lincoln American University before paying any fee

Each question below maps to a clause of the FMGL. Ask for the answers in writing, on university letterhead.

• Where and when is the 12-month internship? NMC asks for it at Lincoln American University itself, on top of a course of at least 54 months.

• Will every rotation happen in Guyana? Training in Nepal, India or the USA would break the same-institution rule.

• Can graduates get a full licence to practise in Guyana? Regulation 4(b) asks for a licence on a par with Guyana's own citizens.

• What are living costs from Year 2 onwards? The fees page lists accommodation and mess for Year 1 only.

• Is the school seeking CAAM-HP accreditation? The register currently shows no entry for it.

Conclusion: is Lincoln American University right for Indian students?

Lincoln American University has a real FMGE record. Its graduates passed above the national rate in 2023, 2024 and June 2025, and the school is registered in Guyana and listed on WDOMS with an ECFMG note.

The open question is the NMC rule. The university describes a 60-month course with no separate 12-month internship, where NMC asks for 54 months plus 12. It is also not on the CAAM-HP register. A family should get the internship arrangement in writing, and check it against the FMGL, before any fee is paid.
