Uttarakhand MBBS Admission 2026: Every Seat Under Check

Every Uttarakhand MBBS admission made in Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2026-27 state counselling is now provisional. On 17 September 2026 the university running the counselling ordered that domicile and category certificates of all admitted candidates go to the districts for verification, and held back Round 3 until that is done.

What has actually been ordered on Uttarakhand MBBS admission?

The Uttarakhand MBBS admission process for 2026-27 has been paused mid-way, and the order is short enough to quote. Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, which runs the state's NEET UG counselling, issued a notice dated 17 September 2026 saying three things.

• Every admission is provisional. In the notice's own words, "all such admissions shall remain provisional."

• Certificates go to the districts. "The domicile, category/sub-category documents of all candidates shall be forwarded by the respective institutions to the concerned districts for verification. If the documents of any candidate are found to be invalid, incorrect, or not in accordance with the applicable requirements, his/her admission shall be cancelled immediately."

• Round 3 waits. "Round-III of the counselling shall be conducted only after the verification of the certificates/documents of domicile and category/sub-category by the concerned districts in all aspects."

A second notice dated 21 September 2026 published the list this applies to: 1,112 admitted and float candidates from Rounds 1 and 2, college by college, with the last date of admission recorded as 19 September 2026.

Which colleges and how many seats does the Uttarakhand MBBS admission check cover?

The Uttarakhand MBBS admission list covers state quota seats at eight medical colleges and two dental colleges. These are the published figures, given as admitted candidates and float candidates.

A float candidate is one who has taken a seat but stayed in the running for a better one in a later round. Both groups are covered by the verification order, because both hold a seat that was allotted on the strength of a domicile or category claim.

What does an Uttarakhand MBBS admission require you to prove?

An Uttarakhand MBBS admission on a state quota seat rests on two documents, and the counselling Information Bulletin is precise about both.

On domicile, clause 3.1 says a candidate "has to upload the domicile/permanent resident certificate issued by the competent authority of the state of Uttarakhand only", and that no affidavit or acknowledgement receipt will be accepted in its place. In practice the issuing authority is the Sub Divisional Magistrate, applied for through the tehsil e-district centre or the state service portal.

On category, clauses 5.3 and 5.4 say only Uttarakhand domicile or permanent resident candidates get the benefit of any category or sub-category reservation, and that if the category certificate and the domicile certificate are not issued by the competent authority of the Uttarakhand government, the candidate is not eligible for that benefit. The originals have to be produced at admission.

The sub-categories sit inside every vertical category. Alongside Unreserved, SC, ST, OBC and EWS, the official seat matrix carries separate columns for Freedom Fighter dependants, dependants of war widows, persons with disability, women and orphans. The freedom fighter reservation comes from Government Order No. 124/XXX(2)/2021-53(01)/2001 dated 22 May 2020, applied through a 100-point roster college by college from the 2020-21 session.

What happens to an Uttarakhand MBBS admission if a certificate is wrong?

The consequences were already written into the Uttarakhand MBBS admission bulletin before any of this started, and they are heavier than most families expect. Clause 15 is the one to read.

It says that where incorrect information is detected at any stage, the candidate is automatically disqualified and "will not be allowed to appear for UG counselling in future in the State of Uttarakhand". It then goes further: if it is detected in a later year rather than this one, "such disqualification will take place with retrospective effect and the Principal/Dean of the concerned college/institute shall have the authority to cancel the admission of the candidate and to proceed for legal action against him/her."

Read that carefully. It is not only a cancellation. It is a permanent bar from undergraduate medical counselling in Uttarakhand, it reaches backwards into years already completed, and it leaves the door open to legal action. A student two or three years into an MBBS course is not out of reach of this clause.

Clause 2.9 adds the simpler case: an application with wrong information is summarily rejected, and if a seat was already secured on it, "his/her admission will be cancelled at the cost and risk of the candidate".

What national rules sit behind an Uttarakhand MBBS admission cancellation?

The state bulletin is not the only rulebook. Two national documents say the same thing in stronger terms, and they apply to every MBBS admission in India, not only Uttarakhand.

The NTA Information Bulletin for NEET (UG) 2026 states that if it is discovered at any stage that a candidate used a "false/fake/incorrect document" or gave false or incomplete information to claim reservation, "such a candidate shall be excluded from all admission processes" and, if already admitted, "the admission shall stand cancelled". For fabricated information generally, it sets out a bar from NTA examinations for three years and says candidates "shall also be liable for suitable criminal action under relevant laws of the country".

The MCC Information Bulletin for UG counselling 2026, dated 20 August 2026, is equally direct. A candidate found to have given incorrect information about eligibility has their candidature cancelled for further rounds and their security deposit forfeited. On disability claims it says that if a UDID card or affidavit "is found to be 'FAKE', the seat of the candidate will be 'CANCELLED'; and legal action will be taken against the candidate."

Verification also tightened nationally in the same week. MCC issued its own notice on 18 September 2026 requiring document corrections for Round 2, with seats cancelled where corrected documents were not uploaded. Uttarakhand's order sits inside a wider push, not on its own.

What should families with an Uttarakhand MBBS admission do now?

If your son or daughter holds one of these 1,112 seats, the honest position is that nothing has been cancelled and nothing has been alleged against any named candidate. A verification drive is not a finding. But it is a deadline, and there are useful things to do this week.

1. Find the originals. The domicile certificate and the category or sub-category certificate, both in original, both issued by an Uttarakhand competent authority. Check the issuing officer, the date and the certificate number against what was uploaded.

2. Check the name and spelling match across the NEET scorecard, the domicile certificate, the category certificate and the school records. A mismatch is the most common reason a genuine certificate fails verification.

3. Keep the acknowledgement of anything you submit to the college, with a date.

4. Do not wait to be asked. The certificates go from the college to the district, so any gap is better fixed at the college now than explained to a district office later.

5. Plan for Round 3 slipping. It is held until verification finishes, so anyone hoping to upgrade should expect a longer wait.

Conclusion

Uttarakhand has done something unusual and, on the face of it, sensible: it has stopped its own MBBS counselling mid-cycle and sent every domicile and category certificate back to the districts that issued them, before giving out any more seats.

The position today is that 1,112 Round 1 and Round 2 admissions are provisional, Round 3 waits for the districts to finish, and a false certificate means immediate cancellation, a permanent bar from future undergraduate medical counselling in the state, and possible legal action. The district findings, and any cancellations that follow from them, will come from the university and the Directorate of Medical Education, Uttarakhand. This page moves when they publish.

The wider lesson holds anywhere in India. A reservation benefit is only as safe as the certificate behind it, and verification now reaches backwards. A seat taken today can be cancelled in the third year of the course.
