NEET PG 2026 Result Out: Cut-Off, Score, Rank and Next Steps

The NEET PG 2026 result was declared on 24 September 2026 by NBEMS, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. The qualifying cut-off is 262 out of 720 for General and EWS candidates, 244 for General PwBD, and 226 for SC, ST and OBC candidates. Scorecards open on 1 October 2026.

NEET PG 2026 result: the key facts in one place

The NEET PG 2026 result covers the exam held on 30 August 2026 for admission to MD, MS, DNB, DrNB and PG Diploma courses in the 2026-27 session. Here is everything the official notice confirms.

A small but important detail sits inside the result notice. A power failure at the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centres in Jaipur (test centre codes 41682 and 41683) stopped candidates there from finishing the paper. NBEMS held a re-exam for them on 5 September 2026 in Jaipur, and 2,416 candidates sat it. Both groups are ranked in the same merit list. All of this is set out in the NBEMS notice dated 24 September 2026, "Result of NEET-PG 2026 Declared".

What is the NEET PG 2026 cut-off score for each category?

The NEET PG 2026 cut-off is the minimum score you need to be counted as qualified. NBEMS sets it as a percentile first, then publishes the mark that the percentile works out to. These are the official figures.

Percentile here means your position in the group, not your marks. The NEET PG 2026 Information Bulletin defines it as the number of candidates who scored the same as you or less, divided by the number of candidates who appeared, multiplied by 100. So the 50th percentile means you did as well as or better than half the people who sat the paper.

Why is the NEET PG 2026 cut-off of 262 not the same as last year's 276?

The NEET PG 2026 cut-off looks lower than 2025, and a lot of families will read that as an easier paper. It is not a fair comparison, because the paper itself changed size.

NEET PG 2026 carried 180 questions for 720 marks, against 200 questions for 800 marks in 2025. Read as a share of the paper, 262 out of 720 is 36.4 per cent and 276 out of 800 is 34.5 per cent. In other words the bar went up, not down. The 2023 figure comes from the NBEMS NEET-PG 2023 result notice dated 16 June 2023, and the 2025 figure from the NBEMS notice dated 13 January 2026.

One more change is worth knowing. NEET PG 2025 ran in more than one shift, so marks were normalised and raw marks were never shown. NEET PG 2026 ran in a single shift, so your scorecard shows your actual raw marks. That is why NBEMS could publish a score this year and could not in 2024.

The NEET PG 2026 cut-off may not be the number that decides counselling

The NEET PG 2026 cut-off published today is the starting position, not always the final one. In each of the last three admission cycles, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare directed NBEMS to lower the qualifying percentile part way through counselling, because seats were still lying empty.

• NEET PG 2023. The percentile was reduced to zero across all categories on 20 September 2023, on the Ministry's letter of the same date.

• NEET PG 2024. The percentile was cut twice. First on 6 January 2025, to the 15th percentile for General and EWS and the 10th for the other categories. Then again on 25 February 2025, to the 5th percentile for everyone.

• NEET PG 2025. On 13 January 2026 the General and EWS cut-off fell from the 50th percentile, or 276 marks, to the 7th percentile, or 103 marks. General PwBD fell to 90. For SC, ST and OBC the 0th percentile worked out to minus 40, because a wrong answer costs a mark.

So a candidate who missed 262 this week is not finished. In three years running, the line moved. What nobody can tell you is whether it will move again this year, or by how much, because it depends on how many seats are left after the early rounds. The honest position is that the 262 figure decides who is qualified today, and the Ministry decides later whether that stays true. The 2025 revision is documented in the NBEMS notice of 13 January 2026 on revised cut-off scores, and the 2023 reduction in the NBEMS notice dated 20 September 2023.

How is the NEET PG 2026 rank worked out, and what breaks a tie?

Your NEET PG 2026 rank is your merit position among everyone who appeared. NBEMS says it is calculated from actual marks scored, and then from a fixed list of tie-breakers when two candidates finish level. The tie-breakers are applied in this order, and they are unusual enough to be worth reading properly.

1. Fewer wrong answers across the whole paper.

2. Fewer wrong answers in Section A, then Section B, then C, then D, then E, taken one section at a time.

3. Higher aggregate percentage across all MBBS professional examinations. If you qualified abroad, your FMGE percentage is used instead.

4. Date of birth, and the older candidate is placed higher.

The MBBS percentage you typed into your application form is therefore not a formality. NBEMS verifies it against your original documents at admission, and the bulletin states that if that figure is wrong and it was used to break your tie, your candidature is cancelled. The same applies to your date of birth.

When is the NEET PG 2026 scorecard and answer key released?

The NEET PG 2026 scorecard can be downloaded from the NBEMS website on or after 1 October 2026, and this is where most candidates make an avoidable mistake. The notice says the scorecard will be hosted for six months from the date of issue and no longer. After that, requests are rejected outright, and NBEMS does not send scorecards by post or email.

Download it on 1 October, save two copies, and keep a printout. You will need it at every counselling round and at admission, and PG admission cycles have a habit of running past six months.

The answer key is published on the same date. Once you log in to your NEET PG 2026 candidate account you can see the question IDs, the correct answer IDs, the answers you marked and the score given for each question. NBEMS publishes this under clauses 9.7 and 10.7 of the Information Bulletin and in compliance with Supreme Court orders dated 29 April 2025 in SLP No. 9298 of 2018. There is no re-evaluation, no rechecking and no re-totalling, and NBEMS has stated that no question in either paper was found technically incorrect.

What happens after the NEET PG 2026 result?

After the NEET PG 2026 result, admission happens through counselling, and it is split down the middle. The Medical Counselling Committee runs the 50 per cent All India Quota, and each state runs the other half through its own authority using the same NEET PG merit list. No college and no state may hold its own entrance test.

The All India Quota covers more than the name suggests. Along with the 50 per cent quota seats contributed by states, it includes 50 per cent of seats at Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University and Delhi University, 100 per cent of DNB seats and 100 per cent of deemed university seats. As of 25 September 2026, MCC has not yet notified the PG counselling schedule for 2026-27. The only 2026-27 item published so far is a public notice on NRI eligibility. What to do if you did not qualify in NEET PG 2026

Not qualifying in NEET PG 2026 closes one door this year, not the profession. India had 86,360 PG medical seats in the 2025-26 academic year, against 2,63,544 candidates who sat this paper, so roughly two in three candidates were always going to be left without a seat. That figure comes from a written reply by the Union Health Minister in the Lok Sabha, published by the Press Information Bureau on 24 July 2026.

Three routes are worth looking at properly rather than in a panic. The first is waiting to see whether the qualifying percentile is lowered, as it was in each of the last three years. Conclusion

The NEET PG 2026 result is out, the General and EWS cut-off is 262 out of 720, and the number that actually matters to you now is your rank, not your score. Do these four things this week.

1. Note 1 October 2026. Download your scorecard and answer key that day, and keep them for longer than six months yourself, because NBEMS will not.

2. Check that the MBBS aggregate percentage and date of birth on your application form match your original documents. If a tie was broken on a wrong figure, the candidature goes.

3. Watch the MCC PG counselling page for the 2026-27 schedule, and register for both All India Quota and your state counselling. They are separate processes.

4. If you are just below the line, do not write the year off yet. The percentile has been lowered in each of the last three cycles.
