How to Apply
Admission to General Medicine at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is merit-based on Class 12 results and a valid NEET qualification, without a separate university entrance exam. Indian students apply through the KSMA International Relations Office or an authorised representative, receive an invitation letter, and complete their student visa and registration in Bishkek.
Applications for the September intake open through the KSMA International Relations Office; a second (February) intake follows for the spring start.
Indian applicants must hold a valid NEET-UG qualification, both to enrol at KSMA and for future licensing in India through the NMC.
KSMA reviews Class 12 and NEET results and issues an official invitation letter to eligible applicants.
Students apply for the Kyrgyz student visa/registration, arrange medical insurance, and travel to Bishkek (direct Delhi–Bishkek flights began in December 2025).
Students complete university registration, residence registration and a medical/HIV check in Bishkek.
The academic year begins at the Bishkek campus (a February intake begins the spring semester).
Applicants must have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and a minimum aggregate of 50% in these subjects (40% for reserved categories), together with English, in line with NMC rules for Indian students studying medicine abroad.

Candidates must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year, as required by NMC rules for studying medicine abroad.
Selection is by academic merit and a valid NEET result; there is no separate university entrance examination. Applications may be made directly to the International Relations Office or through an authorised representative.
NEET Qualification
A valid NEET-UG qualification is mandatory for Indian applicants, both for KSMA admission and for future NMC licensing in India.
English Medium
The General Medicine programme is taught in English for international students, so a working command of English is essential; no separate language exam is required for the English track.
The Kyrgyz State Medical Academy admits international students on academic merit and NEET qualification rather than a written entrance examination.

Legacy
From the surgeon it is named after to the specialists who built medicine in Kyrgyzstan, KSMA's legacy runs through the history of Central Asian medicine.
The academy's namesake and founder of modern surgery in Kyrgyzstan. In 1959 he performed the first heart operation in Central Asia, headed the General Surgery Department in Bishkek from 1946 to 1975, and became the first President of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR.
A leading Kyrgyz neurosurgeon and academician associated with KSMA. He helped establish and advance neurosurgery in Kyrgyzstan, training generations of specialists in a highly demanding surgical field.
One of the first female surgeons of Central Asian descent and a pioneer for women in medicine in the region. Her career opened the operating theatre to women when surgery was almost entirely male.
A prominent Kyrgyz pulmonologist and professor whose work on respiratory medicine and high-altitude health has given Kyrgyzstan an international research profile in the field.
The current Rector of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy — a physician and academic leader heading the academy as it takes on its 2026 role as Kyrgyzstan's system-forming medical institution.

Housing
The Kyrgyz State Medical Academy runs its own student hostels in Bishkek, and most first-year Indian students begin there before moving to shared private flats in later years.
The academy operates its own network of student hostels across several buildings in Bishkek, open to international students, giving first-year students supervised, secure accommodation close to the campus.
Rooms are furnished and typically shared by two or three students, with shared kitchens, bathrooms, common rooms and internet access, keeping costs very low.
Hostel accommodation is among the cheapest of any medical destination, reported at roughly US$500–1,000 per year (around ₹4,000–₹7,000 per month), well below private rent in Bishkek.
Living in the university hostel is the recommended option for first-year Indian students: it is supervised, keeps students close to fellow Indians, and removes the stress of finding private housing on arrival.
Hostel places are requested through the KSMA International Relations Office after admission; because demand is high, students should secure a place as early as possible.
In later years many Indian students move into shared private apartments across Bishkek, which are inexpensive by international standards, typically US$150–250 a month for a one-bedroom flat shared between students.
Private rents are usually quoted plus utilities, which run around US$35 a month for an apartment; Bishkek's low cost of living keeps heating, internet and everyday essentials affordable.
Bishkek has a continental climate with cold, snowy winters that can fall to around minus 20°C, so students should budget for warm clothing and heating — a real adjustment for students from most parts of India.

Food & Dining
Indian and vegetarian food is easily available in restaurants, grocery markets and hostel kitchens across Bishkek.
KSMA hostels have shared kitchens where students cook their own meals, and there are canteens and cafés near the campus; cooking in the hostel is the cheapest way for Indian students to eat familiar vegetarian food.

Practising in India
To practise medicine in India after graduating from the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, Indian students follow the licensing pathway set by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Because KSMA is a WDOMS-listed, English-taught six-year programme, it meets the NMC's core criteria, and students must have qualified NEET-UG before joining.
Step 1
Graduates must clear the qualifying examination that licenses foreign medical graduates to practise in India. At present this is the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which the NMC plans to replace with the National Exit Test (NExT). Kyrgyzstan's country-level FMGE pass rate was about 25% in 2024, so serious, early preparation is essential.
Step 2
After qualifying, students complete the required one-year Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) in India, which builds hands-on experience in Indian clinical settings under the NMC's framework.
Step 3
The final step is registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or the relevant State Medical Council. Once registered, the graduate holds a full licence to practise medicine in India.
