International Medical School Kazakhstan: UIB MBBS Guide

International Medical School is the medical faculty of the University of International Business named after Kenzhegali Sagadiyev (UIB), a private university in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It now calls itself UIB Faculty of Medicine. It runs a six-year Medicine programme in English for about 500 students. In December 2025, 29 of its 56 graduates passed FMGE.

Key Takeaways

  • Which institution this is. International Medical School belongs to UIB, at Abai Avenue 8a in Almaty. The faculty page now uses the name UIB Faculty of Medicine (UIB Faculty of Medicine page).

  • Six years, taught in English. The faculty runs a six-year Medicine programme in English, with about 500 students enrolled (UIB Faculty of Medicine page, Russian version).

  • A young medical faculty in an older university. UIB began in 1992 as a business school. Its pre-clinical department was set up in 2022 (UIB history page).

  • FMGE record is short but strong so far. 29 of 56 graduates passed FMGE in December 2025, a pass rate of 51.79%. The Kazakhstan average was 29.33% (NBEMS FMGE Performance Report 2025).

  • NMC rules decide your licence in India. The course must last at least 54 months, be taught in English and include a 12-month internship at the same university (NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021).

What is International Medical School (UIB) in Almaty?

International Medical School is the medical faculty of UIB, the University of International Business named after Kenzhegali Sagadiyev. UIB is a private university in Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. It is best known for business, economics and law. Medicine is a newer addition. Our MBBS in Kazakhstan country guide covers the wider picture of studying medicine there.

The names can confuse families. UIB lists the programme under the faculty "International Medical School" on its educational programmes page. The faculty home page now uses the name "UIB Faculty of Medicine". NBEMS, the Indian body that runs FMGE, lists graduates as "International Medical School, University of International Business". All three names refer to the same faculty in Almaty.

History of the University of International Business

UIB has changed its name and status several times. The UIB history page sets out the main steps.

Year

What happened

1992

The Republican School of Business opened as a division of the Kazakh State Academy of Management, with IBM taking part.

1993

The school became a separate higher education institution, the School of International Business.

2001

The school was renamed the University of International Business.

2002

The Ministry of Education and Science granted UIB a permanent state licence on 5 February 2002.

2022

The faculty's Department of Pre-Clinical Disciplines was set up.

The medical faculty is much younger than the university. This matters because a young faculty has only a few graduate years behind it. That shows in the FMGE figures below.

MBBS course at International Medical School: length, language and subjects

The faculty teaches a six-year Medicine programme in English (UIB Faculty of Medicine page). The current programme code is 6B10102 "Medicine". UIB describes it as a continuous integrated medical education programme. In plain terms, the degree and the clinical training run as one course, not as a separate bachelor's and master's.

Six years meets the NMC minimum of 54 months on paper. The NMC also wants a 12-month internship inside the same university. Ask the faculty for its year-by-year study plan in writing. It should show where the 12-month internship sits in the six years.

Pre-clinical subjects (early years)

The faculty page lists the pre-clinical subjects. They include:

  • Core sciences: Human Anatomy 1 and 2, Histology and Embryology, Physiology 1 and 2, Biochemistry 1 and 2, and Molecular Biology and Genetics 1 and 2.

  • Disease and drugs: Microbiology 1 and 2, Pharmacology 1 and 2, General Pathology, Pathology of Organs and Systems 1 and 2, and Immunology.

  • Public health: Public Health 1 and 2, and General Hygiene and Epidemiology.

  • Kazakh state subjects: History of Kazakhstan, Philosophy, Kazakh (Russian) Language 1 and 2, and Physical Education. Every university in Kazakhstan teaches these.

The department runs laboratories for anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, histology and pathology. In 2025 to 2026 it had 62 teaching staff: 39 full time and 23 part time.

Clinical subjects (later years)

The clinical list covers the subjects an Indian MBBS student studies. Examples are Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatric Diseases, Anaesthesiology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), Psychiatry, Dermatovenereology, Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine and Forensic Medicine. Students also complete four research projects, in therapy, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics.

Clinical training at International Medical School: hospitals used

Students train in hospitals the faculty has agreements with. These are called clinical bases. UIB lists 11 clinical bases for International Medical School (UIB clinical bases page).

FMGE pass rate of International Medical School, Almaty

FMGE is the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination. A doctor with a foreign degree must pass it before working in India. Read our guide on what the FMGE exam is for the full rules. NBEMS (National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences) publishes results by university. The table uses those official figures.

What this means for a parent. In December 2025, about one in two International Medical School graduates passed FMGE. Across Kazakhstan, it was closer to three in ten. That is a good result. But it comes from one exam and 56 candidates. Larger universities have five or more years of results behind them. Treat one strong year as a good sign, not a settled record. Our web story on the FMGE pass rate country-wise shows how Kazakhstan compares with other countries.

Is International Medical School recognised by NMC?

The NMC (National Medical Commission) does not publish an approved list of foreign universities. Instead, every foreign medical graduate must meet the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 to get a licence in India. Those rules apply to International Medical School graduates in the same way as any other.

  • Course length: at least 54 months of study.

  • Internship abroad: at least 12 months, in the same foreign university.

  • Language: the whole degree must be taught in English.

  • Same place throughout: no part of the course or internship can be done in India or a third country.

  • Licence abroad: the graduate must be eligible to practise in Kazakhstan, on the same terms as a Kazakh citizen.

  • Time limit: the whole course must be finished within 10 years of joining.

  • Back in India: pass FMGE (to be replaced by NExT, the National Exit Test), then complete a 12-month supervised internship in India.

Our guide to checking NMC and WDOMS recognition explains each check step by step. The current notices sit on the NMC rules and regulations page.

University accreditation at UIB

UIB lists its accreditations on its licences and accreditations page. They cover the university and its business programmes:

Accreditation body

Valid until

FIBAA (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation)

30 May 2027

IQAA (Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education, Kazakhstan)

These are not medical accreditations. UIB does not publish a separate accreditation for its Medicine programme on its official pages.

Eligibility for MBBS at International Medical School for Indian students

An Indian student needs to meet the Indian rules, not only the university's. The main conditions are:

  • NEET UG qualified: Indian students going abroad for MBBS must qualify NEET UG, the national medical entrance exam run by the National Testing Agency. See our web story on NEET UG eligibility rules.

  • Class 12 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English passed in Class 12.

  • Minimum marks: 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for general category students, 40% for SC, ST and OBC students.

  • Age: at least 17 years old by 31 December of the year of admission.

  • English-medium course: the student must join the English programme, because NMC accepts only an English-medium degree.

Our summary of the latest NMC guidelines for MBBS abroad covers these rules in more detail.

Admission process and documents at International Medical School

UIB admits foreign citizens under the law of Kazakhstan and the treaties Kazakhstan has signed (UIB bachelor admissions page). The faculty page lists an international admissions phone line, +7 777 514 4265, and an India number, +91 88007 67475. The usual order is:

  1. Apply to the faculty with Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, your NEET UG scorecard and passport.

  2. Receive an admission letter from UIB.

  3. Apply for a Kazakhstan student visa using the university's invitation.

  4. Travel to Almaty and submit original documents at the university.

  5. Sign the study contract and join classes.

Documents UIB asks for at admission

The UIB bachelor admissions page lists these documents:

  • Application addressed to the head of the university.

  • School certificate (original): for an Indian student, the Class 12 pass certificate and mark sheet.

  • Six photographs in 3x4 cm size.

  • Medical certificate on form 075-U: the Kazakh health form for students.

  • Fluorography: a chest X-ray report, used to rule out tuberculosis.

  • Identity document: for an Indian student, the passport.

  • Vaccination record: a health passport or vaccination card.

Indian students should also carry the NEET UG scorecard. Foreign documents usually need a translation into Russian or Kazakh.

Both Kazakh partners also run their own English medical programmes. Read our pages on Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and MBBS at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to compare. Note that an Indian partnership does not allow any part of the course in India. NMC requires the full course and internship in Kazakhstan.

Things to weigh before choosing International Medical School Kazakhstan

  • Short FMGE history. Only one exam, December 2025, has a meaningful number of graduates. Look for the next NBEMS reports before treating 51.79% as typical.

  • A business university with a new medical faculty. UIB's accreditations cover business programmes. The pre-clinical department dates from 2022.

  • Language in hospitals. Teaching is in English, but patients mostly speak Kazakh or Russian.

  • Internship placement. NMC needs 12 months of internship in the same university. Ask for the year-by-year study plan in writing before paying.

  • Fees. UIB does not publish a fee table for the international Medicine programme on its website. Ask for the full six-year fee in the study contract before signing.

Our guide to the disadvantages of studying MBBS in Kazakhstan covers the country-wide issues. futureMBBS works with 23 partner universities in 9 European countries. Kazakhstan is not one of them.

Conclusion

International Medical School is the medical faculty of UIB, a private Almaty university founded in 1992 as a business school. It teaches a six-year Medicine programme in English to about 500 students, with 11 clinical bases in and around Almaty. Its first sizeable FMGE result was strong: 51.79% in December 2025. That record is one exam long. Families should check the internship year and the full fee in writing before choosing. Our MBBS in Kazakhstan guide helps compare it with other universities.
