Missed MCC Round 2 Reporting? NEET UG 2026 Next Steps

MCC Round 2 reporting for NEET UG 2026 closes on 18 September 2026. If you were allotted a seat in Round 2 and do not join the college by that date, the seat is cancelled and your security deposit is forfeited. You still stay eligible for Round 3, which opens for registration on 22 September 2026.

That last line is the part most students miss. Missing MCC Round 2 reporting costs you money and it costs you the seat, but it does not end your counselling. What genuinely ends your counselling is a mistake made later, in Round 3, and that rule is set out further down this page.

MCC Round 2 reporting dates for NEET UG 2026

The All India Quota counselling schedule issued by the Medical Counselling Committee on 14 September 2026 sets these dates for MCC Round 2 reporting and for everything that follows it.

MCC Round 2 reporting means going to the allotted college in person, submitting your original documents for verification, paying the fee the institute asks for, and completing admission. An online acknowledgement is not joining. The institute records your joining and sends that data back to MCC, which shares it on 19 September 2026. What happens if you miss MCC Round 2 reporting

Three things follow when MCC Round 2 reporting closes without you joining, in this order.

1. The seat is cancelled. A Round 2 seat that nobody joins goes back into the pool and is counted again when MCC verifies the seat matrix for Round 3 on 21 September 2026.

2. Your security deposit is forfeited. The UG counselling information bulletin states that the security deposit is forfeited where a candidate allotted a seat in the second round or a later round does not join the institute.

3. You remain eligible for Round 3. The bulletin lists candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 2 but did not join, or who resigned and exited with forfeiture, among those who may take part in Round 3.

Free exit belonged to Round 1 only. A Round 1 allotted candidate could walk away without losing the deposit, and Round 1 float candidates who did not upgrade had their own resignation window, which ran until 6:00 PM on 15 September 2026. From Round 2 onward, every exit carries forfeiture.

What missing MCC Round 2 reporting costs you

The gap between those rows is the reason deemed university choices need more thought than any other line in your choice list. A missed reporting date in the All India Quota stream costs Rs. 10,000 at most. The same missed date on a deemed university seat costs Rs. 2,00,000, and that money is gone whether or not you ever attend the college.

Are you still eligible for Round 3?

Round 3 registration runs from 22 to 27 September 2026, and candidates who skipped MCC Round 2 reporting are inside it, not outside it. Where you stand depends on what happened to you in the first two rounds.

Two groups are shut out of Round 3 altogether: candidates who became ineligible because their documents were inadequate, and candidates who never registered for any round. Everyone else has a route in. The parallel NEET counselling process run by each state has its own rules, and those rules are not the same as the All India Quota rules on this page.

The Round 3 schedule for NEET UG 2026

Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays are treated as working days throughout this schedule, so none of these dates shift for a weekend.

The Round 3 rule that ends counselling for good

Round 3 is not Round 2 with a later date. Three rules change, and each one is final.

1. A Round 3 seat you join cannot be vacated. The information bulletin is direct about it: once you join a third round seat, you will not be allowed to vacate that seat. There is no resignation window afterwards.

2. A Round 3 allotment you ignore bars you from the stray vacancy round. Candidates allotted a seat in Round 3 who did not report are listed as not eligible for the stray vacancy round. That is the end of All India Quota counselling for the year.

3. Holding any seat bars you from the stray vacancy round. A candidate who has joined or is holding a seat at the time of the stray vacancy round cannot take part in it.

So the calculation you make before locking choices in Round 3 is different from the one you made in Round 2. In Round 2 an unwanted allotment cost you Rs. 10,000 and a few days. In Round 3 an unwanted allotment that you accept locks you in for six years, and an unwanted allotment that you ignore ends your counselling. Fill Round 3 choices you would actually attend.

Stray vacancy round dates

Fresh registration and fresh choice filling are required for the stray vacancy round. Being registered for Round 3 does not carry you into it.

What to do before MCC Round 2 reporting closes

1. If you want the Round 2 seat, report before 18 September 2026 ends. Carry your original documents, your allotment letter and the fee the institute has asked for. Joining is recorded by the institute, not by you online.

2. If you have already decided against the seat, accept the forfeiture and plan Round 3. There is no way to recover the deposit once the reporting window closes, so spend the time on your Round 3 choice list instead.

3. Check whether your willingness for third round upgradation is marked correctly if you have joined a Round 2 seat and still want to move up. Without that willingness, a joined Round 2 candidate does not enter Round 3.

4. Build your Round 3 choice list between 21 and 27 September 2026, after the seat matrix is verified on 21 September. Seats surrendered by non joiners in Round 2 show up here.

5. Keep your state counselling running in parallel. MCC publishes the combined All India Quota and state schedule, and the state rounds run on their own dates with their own exit rules.

If the All India Quota does not work out this year

Round 3 and the stray vacancy round decide the year for most candidates. The honest position is that competition does not ease much between rounds, because the seats released by candidates who skipped MCC Round 2 reporting are counted back into a pool that thousands of registered candidates are filling choices against. Students who reach late October without a government seat usually weigh three routes: a private or deemed seat in India at the fee levels those colleges charge, a repeat attempt at NEET UG in 2027, or a medical degree in Europe, where public universities teach the programme in English. Each route has a real cost and a real timeline, and the sensible time to price all three is now, not in November.
