FMGE October 2026 at a glance

FMGE, the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination, is the screening test an Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India with a medical degree from abroad must pass before registering to practise in India. This post covers only the weeks between the closed application window and the result. FMGE October 2026 dates: what is closed and what is next

Three of the eight FMGE October 2026 stages are over. Five are still ahead, and each one has a fixed date. All dates are from the Important Dates table of the FMGE October 2026 information bulletin.

What if you missed the FMGE October 2026 application window?

You cannot apply for FMGE October 2026 now. The bulletin says no new application can be registered and no payment can be made during the edit window. That window was the last stage open to applicants, and it closed on 30 September 2026.

The bulletin also says NBEMS will now hold FMGE three times a year, not twice. The sitting before this one was held on 28 June 2026. So the wait for the next FMGE is shorter than the old six months. If you did apply, note two rules from the bulletin. A submitted application cannot be withdrawn. The fee is not refunded or carried forward to a later sitting, for any reason.

How to fix images and documents for FMGE October 2026

NBEMS checks every application after the edit window closes. Candidates with a problem are told by email and on their applicant login dashboard. There are two separate correction windows, and each covers different items.

Selective edit window for images: 3 to 19 October 2026

This window is only for candidates whose photograph, signature or thumb impression does not meet the image rules. You can only replace those images. Check the NBEMS image upload instructions for FMGE October 2026 before you upload again. The bulletin says no further chance will be given, and a faulty image left unfixed leads to rejection.

Document corrections: until 21 October 2026

This step is for faulty documents. It runs through the online deficient document submission portal, which closes at 11:55 PM on 21 October 2026. Documents cannot be submitted any other way. The bulletin names these documents:

• Primary medical qualification certificate: your MBBS degree or provisional pass certificate from the foreign university.

• Attestation or apostille: confirmation of that certificate by the Indian embassy concerned, or an apostille stamp.

• Eligibility Certificate or admission letter: the NMC Eligibility Certificate, or your NEET UG result where that counts in its place.

• Proof of citizenship: the identity document that shows you are an Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India.

Candidates who do not fix their documents by 21 October 2026 are declared ineligible. They get no admit card, and the whole fee is forfeited. An admit card from an earlier FMGE sitting does not help.

FMGE October 2026 test city and admit card

Each candidate chose four test cities in the application form. NBEMS then gives you a centre in one of those four by random allocation. The order you listed them in does not matter. NBEMS can also move you to another city if a city has too few candidates.

• 20 October 2026: your test city arrives by email and shows in your applicant login. Check your spam and junk folders too.

• 27 October 2026: admit cards go live on the NBEMS website. The full centre address is printed on the admit card. It is not sent by post.

Book travel only after 20 October 2026, once you know your city. The exact venue is only known from 27 October 2026.

What to carry to the FMGE October 2026 centre

• Admit card: a printed colour copy of the admit card with its barcode or QR code.

• Photo ID: one original, valid government photo ID: PAN card, driving licence, voter ID, passport or Aadhaar card with photograph.

• Aadhaar, if you used it: candidates who gave consent for Aadhaar checks must carry the Aadhaar card, and their Aadhaar must be unlocked on exam day.

• Name change proof: if your name has changed, carry the marriage certificate, gazette notification or legal document. A name mismatch means no entry.

FMGE October 2026 exam day timings

The FMGE October 2026 paper has 300 multiple choice questions in two parts of 150 each. Each part runs for 153 minutes. There is no negative marking, and you pass with 150 marks out of 300. The timings below are from the information bulletin.

The reporting counter closes 30 minutes before the exam starts. The counter can be some distance from the main gate, so arrive early. Each part is split into timed sections. Once a section's time ends, you cannot go back to it.

After the FMGE October 2026 exam: answer key and result

1. Question challenge until 2 November 2026: you can challenge a question for a technical error, with medical literature to support it, through the NBEMS Communication Web Portal. Complaints about difficulty are not accepted.

2. Answer key: NBEMS publishes the answer key and your own responses in your applicant login on the FMGE October 2026 page.

3. Result by 30 November 2026: the result shows only Pass or Fail. Marks for each part are not published. There is no re-totalling, re-evaluation or grace marks.

4. Pass certificate: candidates who pass get the FMGE pass certificate after in-person checks of their documents and the biometric or face ID taken on exam day.

Passing FMGE is not the last step. Under the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021, you then complete a 12-month supervised internship in India before full registration. FMGE pass rates before October 2026

Recent results show what one sitting usually means. In December 2025, 23.94 per cent of candidates passed, so roughly one in four. The figures below are from the NBEMS FMGE performance reports for 2025, 2024 and 2023. The 2023 and 2024 reports combine both sittings of the year.

FMGE October 2026 is fixed for 31 October 2026, and the application window is closed. If you applied, four dates decide your attempt. Images close on 19 October and documents on 21 October. Your test city arrives on 20 October, and the admit card on 27 October. Watch your email and applicant login through October. If you missed this sitting, the move to three sittings a year means the next one is closer than it used to be.
