Established in 1963 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat, it is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated to Gujarat University, and admits 250 MBBS students a year on NEET-UG merit; it also runs postgraduate (MD/MS) programmes. To put the competition in context, around 22.7 lakh students registered for NEET-UG 2025 and 12.4 lakh qualified, against roughly 1.29 lakh MBBS seats across India. Clinical training runs at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital, backed by the municipal hospital network including the Sheth Vadilal Sarabhai (V. S.) General Hospital.
As a municipal-government college, MBBS tuition at Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College is set low by the government, and seats are filled purely on NEET-UG merit through the 85% Gujarat state quota (ACPC Gujarat) and the 15% All India Quota (MCC); there is no management or NRI quota. Clinical training runs at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Hospital, a large municipal teaching hospital in central Ahmedabad, together with the V. S. and L. G. Hospitals, giving MBBS students high-volume exposure across specialties. Its long municipal heritage, NMC recognition and NEET-UG admission make it one of Gujarat's most sought-after government MBBS seats.
