1. Reach Svenska 3 level, for example by passing TISUS, and meet the science subject requirements.

2. Apply on universityadmissions.se. For spring 2027 the deadline is 15 October 2026, with results on 9 December 2026. For autumn 2027, applications open on 15 March 2027 and close on 15 April 2027, according to the official key dates.

3. Compete on grades and the aptitude test. At Linköping, 67% of places go on grades and 33% on Högskoleprovet.

4. Pay tuition and apply for a residence permit. University Admissions in Sweden warns that non-EU students who apply in the late application round will most likely not have time to get a permit before the course starts, so early planning matters.

MBBS in Sweden Course Duration and Structure

MBBS in Sweden takes six years for students who started from autumn 2021, as a single 360-credit programme. The earlier 5.5-year programme required an 18-month internship (AT) before the licence. On the new programme, the degree leads straight to the licence from Socialstyrelsen, the National Board of Health and Welfare, and a basic clinical period called BT follows at the start of specialist training, according to Karolinska Institutet.

Is MBBS from Sweden Valid in India?

MBBS from Sweden is not valid for practising in India. The NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require a foreign medical degree of at least 54 months, a 12-month internship in the same foreign institution and a degree "with medium of instructions in English". Swedish medicine is taught in Swedish, so it fails the English-medium condition, and the new six-year programme also has no separate 12-month internship after the course.
