Universities
Egypt has some of the oldest and largest public medical faculties in the Middle East and Africa, teaching the MBBCh in English to international students. Leading faculties are listed on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India.
Introduction
Egypt offers a deep medical heritage, English-medium teaching, large teaching hospitals and moderate costs. Cairo University's Kasr Al-Ainy, founded in 1827, is the oldest medical school in the Middle East. Indian students must qualify NEET-UG before admission and clear the FMGE (or NExT) after graduation to practise in India.

Program Structure
The MBBCh in Egypt follows a reformed structure of five years of integrated, competency-based study followed by a compulsory two-year internship, taught in English at public universities with clinical exposure from the middle years.
Duration:
5 Years study + 2-Year internship
Degree:
MBBCh (MBBS-equivalent)
Years 1–3
Integrated basic and diagnostic sciences with early clinical exposure from the middle years:
Years 4–5 + Internship
Clinical rotations followed by a two-year internship in university teaching hospitals:
Important: MBBS in Egypt is a direct-entry MBBCh after Class 12, taught in English. Egypt reformed its medical education to five years of study followed by a two-year internship, and the degree is awarded only after the internship, so the full pathway is about seven years. Confirm the exact structure with each university.

Admissions
Students must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, and must have qualified NEET-UG, which the NMC makes mandatory for Indian students studying medicine abroad.
Prerequisites:
Class 12 (10+2):
Qualifying Aggregate (PCB):
Minimum academic performance required for application (as per NMC eligibility norms; faculties may set higher cut-offs):
| Category | Min. Aggregate (PCB) |
|---|---|
| General | 50% |
| SC / ST / OBC / PwD | 40% |
| NEET-UG | Qualified (valid score) |
Candidates must meet the following criterion at the time of admission:
Indian applicants must have a valid NEET-UG result; Egyptian faculties admit on Class 12 marks and NEET score, with no separate entrance test or IELTS / TOEFL.
NEET-UG
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test — mandatory for Indian students and required for later FMGE / NExT eligibility.
Class 12 Merit + Faculty Application
Admission is offered on Class 12 marks and NEET score through the faculty / ministry process; no IELTS or TOEFL is usually required as teaching is in English.
For Students Planning to Return to India: NEET-UG is required before admission because the NMC makes it compulsory for Indian students abroad. Under the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations 2021, the course and internship must be completed at the same institution in the same country and be English-medium, after which you must clear the FMGE (or NExT) to practise in India.
