UPSC CMS recruits for four services

The Combined Medical Services Examination fills posts in the Central Health Service, the Railways, the New Delhi Municipal Council and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

UPSC CMS is not the Civil Services exam

It is a separate examination with its own notice, paper and calendar. Many people assume the Civil Services route is the only way into the Union Public Service Commission.

UPSC CMS splits posts into two categories

Category one is the Medical Officers Grade in the General Duty Medical Officers sub cadre of the Central Health Service. Category two holds the other three posts.

UPSC CMS 2026 dates and deadlines

The Union Public Service Commission notified it on 11 March 2026 and closed applications on 31 March at 6 pm. The paper ran on 2 August, with results on 1 September.

UPSC CMS has a written paper and an interview

Part one is the written examination and part two is the personality test. The written result is declared first, and the interview schedule is published after it.

UPSC CMS vacancies run into hundreds

The 2024 round carried 163 vacancies in category one and 664 in category two, which is 827 posts in all. The Commission recommended 165 and 600 candidates against them.
