PwBD PG Medical Admission: The New NMC Rules
PwBD rules for PG medical admission
PwBD needs 40 per cent and a UDID card
A candidate applying under the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities category must have at least forty per cent disability and a valid Unique Disability Identity card.
The percentage alone does not decide
The rules say the disability percentage on its own shall not confer eligibility. A Medical Assessment Board decides whether you can meet what the course asks of you.
The certificate has three possible answers
The Board marks a candidate eligible, eligible with reasonable accommodation, or ineligible. If it allows an accommodation, the certificate must spell out what it is.
A refusal must name the exact limitation
No candidate can be ruled out on diagnosis, category or percentage alone. The Board must record the limitation, the competency affected and why support was not enough.
You can appeal to the health services authority
An appeal lies to the Appellate Authority set up by the Directorate General of Health Services. Its reasoned order is final for counselling and admission.
Surgical specialities are judged on their own
The guidelines split courses into those needing surgical skills, such as General Surgery and Orthopaedics, and all others except the pre and para clinical branches.
