PG Resident Stipend Runs From Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.3 Lakh

What a PG resident is actually paid

This is not the internship stipend

The internship stipend ends with the internship. A resident stipend starts after NEET PG, the entrance exam for specialist training, and runs from about Rs 52,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh.

The gap is real, and it is lawful

A PG resident in a Tamil Nadu government college was paid about Rs 52,451 a month in 2024-25. At Safdarjung in Delhi the figure was Rs 1,34,572, about two and a half times more.

The regulation is the whole reason

The National Medical Commission's postgraduate regulations of 2023 say a resident must be paid at par with the state government rate where the college sits, not a national rate.

Most of the gap sits in allowances

Rs 56,100 is the same entry basic pay in Delhi and in Uttar Pradesh. What differs is the dearness, house rent and non practising allowances a state adds on top of it.

What the Delhi figure is made of

Only Rs 56,100 of the Delhi figure is basic pay. The rest is allowances for dearness, house rent, transport and for not practising privately, which together more than double it.

Private colleges sit at the bottom

On the National Medical Commission list, with reports running to early 2026, a trust college in Tamil Nadu reports Rs 40,000 a month and one in Coimbatore Rs 25,000.
