What NEET PG is
NEET PG is the single entrance examination for admission to MD, MS and PG Diploma courses across India, conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. A few institutions admit separately, including AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER, NIMHANS and SCTIMST.
The exam date
NEET PG 2026 will be held on 30 August 2026 as a single-day computer-based test at designated centres nationwide. One shift, one date, no second attempt within this cycle.
City slip and admit card
The exam city intimation slip is released on 11 August 2026, telling you which city you will test in so travel can be planned. The admit card follows on 27 August 2026. A demo test is expected from around 15 August 2026.
The pattern
180 multiple choice questions, four options each, in English only, over 3 hours 30 minutes. The syllabus covers the MBBS curriculum as laid down by the National Medical Commission. That is roughly 70 seconds per question with nothing to spare.
The 30 September internship cut-off
The internship completion cut-off for NEET PG 2026 is 30 September 2026. Candidates whose compulsory rotating internship finishes after that date are not eligible this cycle. For anyone whose internship has been delayed, this single date decides whether the year counts.
Two things candidates get wrong on the day
NBEMS requires a coloured printout of the admit card and a coloured photocopy of the State Medical Council or NMC registration certificate. Black and white is not accepted. Also note the reporting counter closes 30 minutes before the test starts, so the reporting time is the real deadline.
What this means if you studied abroad
A foreign medical graduate reaches NEET PG only after clearing the licensing examination, completing a 12-month supervised internship in India and registering with a State Medical Council. Separately, NMC is phasing out PG Diploma courses, with final admissions in 2026-27, replaced by MD and MS.
Right decision starts with the right information.
